I got to ride both of these coasters for the first time last week, and I was surprised that I preferred Emperor quite handily. Hangtime seems like the better ride ‘on paper’, but, since both rides boil down to “looping coaster with a good first drop”, I have to give the edge to Emperor-I happen to think it has both the superior drop and superior inversions. I love Hangtime’s vertical lift, lap bars, and step-down, but Emperor was the overall better experience for me.
I really like both rides, but I prefer Emperor's first drop mostly because the release from the holding brake is immediate as opposed to a slow crawl, which makes the drop itself feel short in comparison.
I haven't ridden Hangtime yet, but I've been on Emperor 1,960 times now in just over 1year. I'll chime in and let you know after I've ridden Hangtime 1,500 times or so..... Cheers, scotto-
I think hangtime is better by a mile (Ranked 5th) because of the Airtime Hangtime, Plus the better drop and lift. While Emperor Failed in multiple sectors for me as I only got front row rides that didn't have airtime and just felt like it was just short compared to Hangtime (short for me means Time compared to elements). I rank Emperor 12th out of 36.
You know this has me thinking about Sea World San Diego. With their height limit and stuff I think it would be really cool to do a invert like Nemesis / Montu at the park. While I'm glad they're finally building coasters I just hope they don't keep building clones and turn into Generica World. Yes I know Manta isn't a clone and it's actually really cool but aside from that...

Excellent comparison!!! While I haven’t ridden Emperor yet I love Hangtime! You can’t beat that first drop and speed hill, it’s a fun and pretty well rounded coaster
Hangtime is a much tighter congested ride due to space allowed. But for Emperor being larger more space to work with. However both dive coasters are relatively short rides compared to other ones nationwide.
Hang Time is hands down much better than Emperor. Emperor is just bigger. I love the rest of the ride after the drop on Hang Time a whole lot more than emperor. Visually emperor looks lazy as far as theming goes. Hang Time is a gorgeous looking ride especially when it’s lit up at night. Climbing the hill on Hang Time is much more intense
There is some quick and sweet pop up airtime after the first drop when you pop up and twist to the left, front row and you'll feel it on the end seats, I think the left most seat. It's quite nice and you won't feel it in any other seat or row either. Hangtime is cool. But I do wish it was more forceful but it's a very nice ride. I don't like the drop down before the cobra roll tho lol
Haven’t ridden Emperor yet, but I can safely say after about eight rides on Hangtime, you really only get rattle in the back row at the end of the ride. Next time I go, I’ll try and focus on it a bit more. But it’s butter smooth in the front row.
It’s a rough one but I think Emperor wins for me as I think the first drop is far better. Way longer, more intense and in the back you feel like your dropping forever. Hangtimes drop while is very fun it’s just way too short. You get that amazing feeling for a quick second and then it’s over. Emperor you feel it for a good amount of time.
Def a Hangtime fan. The lift and predrop are better plus the lapbars. Not to mention I like the variety of inversions and not inverting elements more. Emperor is still a fun ride and the first drop feels bigger than it is.
Both are good rides, but I gotta give the nod to hang time! Just a better ride! I feel like they did everything they could to make sure that ride was as best as it could be for the space! Emperor….. is good but I dunno I feel like it was not thought out much! Like yeah let’s put a small B&M drop coaster nothing special at all it’s very short and there is nothing that makes it stand out! I feel like emperor could have been so much better plus the light package on hang time is second to none

I got on hang time lots of times and loved it. But I’m nervous to get on emporer this weekend. It looks way bigger and scarier

Try Silver Bullet vs Flight Deck, the battle of California custom inverts
thats actually a really interesting one. they both have very great aspects to them, its hard to pick
@@GavHern I prefer Silver Bullet because of the overbanked turn, which gives airtime. In fact, it has more elements than Flight Deck

I personally prefer silver bullet, wasn’t that impressed with flight deck. I will say flight deck is a lot more intense though.

Even tho knotts considers hangtime as a dive coaster, it still isn’t because it’s an infinity coaster.

it needs to be more than 135 degrees to count as an inversion.

Both are great but I prefer hang time just because it was more intense while emperor was more of a smooth and relaxing ride.
Having not ridden either one- how would they compare to Sheikra?
They are both awesome coasters, I do prefer Emperor a bit more though...a great track design and incredible panoramic views when you are at the top.
