    I think season 3 shows that Kenny, in the long run, was the better person to trust and go with. Go with Jane and she commits suicide a couple of weeks or months later because she can’t handle being pregnant. Not to mention her killing herself could have put Clementine and AJ in danger had her rope snapped and she had been free to roam once she became a walker.
    The situation with Kenny seems much more stable. You’re still with him seemingly over a year later, (Based on AJ’s growth) have a car and seem like a family. Also, unlike Jane, he makes sure Clementine and AJ escape as the walkers approach him after the car accident.

    Kenny with Lee up in S+ just feels right.

  • @TheMasterUnity
    @TheMasterUnity 10 месяцев назад +37

    There is actually a point system in the game which determines Kenny's relationship with Lee and if he will go with him at the end. I'll lay out what decisions reward points, and how many points it rewards.
    Episode 1:
    Save Duck at Hershel's = 2 points
    Side with Kenny over Larry at the drugstore = 1.5 points
    Episode 2:
    Don't pick Lilly's side in the argument = 0.75 points
    Help kill Larry = 1.5 points (interesting to note that this doesn't reward the most points, but dictates how he talks to Lee in future conversations)
    Episode 3:
    Don't shoot the screaming woman = 0.75 points
    Don't pick Lilly's side in the argument = 0.75 points
    Shoot Duck = 2 points
    Episode 4:
    Kill the Walker boy in the attic = 0.75 points
    Drop Ben = 2 points
    If you get 9 or higher points Kenny will come with you no matter what
    If you get 5-8 points you will have to convince Kenny to come with you
    If you get 4 or less points Kenny won't come with you
    So by consulting this chart, you can actually side against Kenny a lot more than you'd think and still have him come with you no matter what.
    The score also determines what Kenny says about Lee when you first meet him in S2. With 9 or higher he says that Lee was "A hell of a guy." With 5-8 he says that they "Had their differences." And with 4 or below he calls him an "Asshole."

    I remember playing these games for the first time with my little sister and me and her without hesitation both chose to kill Jane over Kenny because Kenny is like Clementine’s stepdad in the zombie apocalypse with Lee being her real father. Kenny was going crazy but was also doing everything in defense of his children being Clementine and Aj making Kenny easily a character that was on the same level as Lee and watching him die in season 3 made us both cry just like Lee’s death did in season 1.

  • @glowhoo9226
    @glowhoo9226 9 месяцев назад +6

    Kenny goes right up there with Lee for me. Yes, he had moments where he snapped, but given that this guy had to watch his son slowly die, and then saw his wife shoot herself, and THEN had to potentially put his son down, I can forgive it. Not only that, but he finds sarita and starts to built himself back up, only to lose her as well.
    The fact that Kenny NEVER gave up for Clementine and AJ’s sake is what makes him a favorite for me. You know that there isn’t a damn thing Kenny wouldn’t do for those two.
    And the biggest thing about it, is that AJ isn’t even his kid. With Clementine he has a connection, but AJ is the son of a woman he only recently met, and he still goes above and beyond to take care of him.

    Jane got way too high a rating, her only redeeming quality was her passing survival tips on to Clem, she was 100% in the wrong and was more out of her mind than Kenny, TT proved that with her taking her own life out of selfishness. Kenny even in his most deranged moments wouldn't have left Clem and AJ to fend for themselves because he couldn't cope with the burden of being a parent.
    Arvo, Jane, Mike, Bonney and that mutt belong in the garbage tier.

    • @DjangoFatt
      @DjangoFatt 10 месяцев назад +2

      @samuelmartinez8106 it's not just being an asshole, hell I liked Larry and the antagonistic dynamic he brought in season 1. Jane on the otherhand is a self centered person who only takes to Clem because she sees her sister in her (again a selfish line of reasoning) and when she finds out she's pregnant she takes her own life after going through all the trouble of gaslighting Kenny to highlight his brokenness and kill him (if you chose her over him) just up and abandons Clem and AJ via suicide. Like I said there's nothing redeeming besides her teaching moments she doesn't even get the benefit of being an antagonist, she's a member of the group and is meant to he viewed as an "ally" more or less, no matter how you slice it, she's trash and the obvious wrong choice.

      Kenny was also very selfish and broght a lot of baggage from season 1. I sided with Jane, (Who admittedly gets an undeserved pass for a lot of her bs from players.) After season 3 I completely regretted it. Hell even when I got some time away from Jane I thought about AJ and how fucked Jane was for doing that.

      If by “that mutt” you mean the dog, no. Dog did what dogs do. If you’ve ever had one you know not to try to take food from even a well fed one. They won’t necessarily hurt you, but they’ll growl and voice their displeasure. Starving? Forget it. It was surprising he was as well behaved as he was up till that point, given the circumstances. And that just shows how good a dog he was.

    I remember getting into a heated argument with a friend over the Kenny vs. Jane decision (we are no longer friends but for different reasons.)
    He kept calling me a dumbass for choosing Kenny and whole heartedly supported Jane.
    It didn't even matter when I brought that Jane left AJ in a car and defended her.
    Like bruh, she left a newborn baby in a locked car during a snow storm. It's the zombie apocalypse, who knows if anyone, Clementine, Kenny or Jane would've lived to rescue AJ. If it wasn't for the fact they were the main characters, Jane basically left a newborn baby to die.
    Although he immediately jumped ship when I told him what happened to Kenny and Jane.
    Kenny dies to give Clementine and AJ a chance to escape.
    Meanwhile Jane just killed herself.
    He very louder went "oh what the fuck! Fuck that bitch!"
    It was pretty funny.

    • @junoquat582
      @junoquat582 9 месяцев назад +1

      I also got into a very heated debate about this with a friend who is also no longer my friend for different reasons.
      What’s crazy is that I never got the vindication of the “oh fuck that bitch!” Moment. They still defended Jane even after the suicide bit.... saying that Kenny was going crazy when he wanted to beat Arvo.... a teenager who had just held them at gunpoint and shot Clem anyway.

    • @Brandonious15987
      @Brandonious15987 9 месяцев назад

      @@junoquat582 As someone who sided with Jane but is still friends with the guy who sided with Kenny, let me hop in. Jane is wrong for the AJ situation. Team Kenny just wins that argument no if ands or butts. Kenny doesn't even come off as crazy in that situation to me. He did what people should do. However Kenny also came with so much prior bs.
      Iirc Kenny was beating Arvo before he shot Clem. Yeah Arvo was a shit for trying to rob them but he is restrained when Kenny is beating him. Plus he doesn't speak english. Kenny's fuck ups just keep going back like that.

    • @junoquat582
      @junoquat582 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@Brandonious15987 Arvo held Clem and the group at gunpoint to rob them and then an entire firefight ensues where members of both parties die, iirc. Kenny being extremely cautious with Arvo and ordering him around was warranted. When Arvo disobeys as someone who just tried to kill them only a little while before, I don’t really care that Kenny used physical force to stop him. He went a few hits too far, sure.. but that is NOT enough to condemn Kenny. Arvo, as a prisoner of war, should have listened and followed orders. Him trying to run off poses a clear danger to the group.
      In the end, Kenny’s suspicion and caution was proven right. Arvo shoots Clem in the end. He was a threat the entire time and an F tier character.

    • @Brandonious15987
      @Brandonious15987 9 месяцев назад +1

      @junoquat582 I'm not defending Arvo. I'm saying that at some point, Kenny is torturing a tied up guy for info. The fact that Arvo doesn't speak English highlights the fact that Kenny is losing it. My first playthough I thought Kenny was going to kill someone who didn't need to die again. Also torturing prisoners of war is super fucked up. So the fact that Arvo isn't a pow makes it worse.

    Jane is brought down a lot by TellTale clearly not knowing what to do with her in Season 3. Just based on how long each ending to S2 is, it's clear that they want you to pick Kenny and almost treat Jane's ending as an afterthought.
    They gave so little of a crap about her that they didn't even bother to give her a proper face model for either of her S3 appearances. Like that's just insult to injury lol.

      Ironically, it seemed like everyone and their mother picked Jane over Kenny at the time. Many immediately backtracked and went it alone when it’s revealed AJ was in the car, but still. So many people didn’t catch the clues that Jane was lying and provoking him.

      It's clear that jane's endings were not planned for. Just look at that family that shows up, carlos's model but white, molly's but black and duck's but black as well. They just improvised a makeshift ending with her. Thanks to the many rewrites s2 got, it's my theory that her endings were finished last minute by telltale most likely bc of their original idea of a fight between Kenny and Luke getting cut last minute thanks to the incompetent TTG management

As per regulations for TWD tier-lists there's a huge Clementine bias as well, which is whatever but does skew the list some.

    I think the writing for Kenny has always been uneven since the first series and the "Kenny/Wellington" route being the payoff for sticking with him didn't work for me because of it. Kenny is an asshole, bordering psychopathic even, but being an unevenly written one makes it worse in that "good" ending feeling really shoe-horned and forced as Clementine parts with AJ. Just because we met up with him later in the series, and he's a holdover from the first; his being an ass and his uneven handling from the start to finish can't be overlooked no matter how saccharine/maudlin the end with him is.
