In defense of Samara and her “romance”: It’s never outright said but to some degree she blames herself for all three of her daughters’ condition and she blames herself for every person Morinth kills. Her mate/wife is also either dead or left her. All she really has left is the justicar code. Morinth chose to leave the monastery and in doing so forced Samara to become a justicar and right the wrong she brought into the world, she spent the entire time knowing she’d have to kill one of her own daughters while also knowing the other two could just as easily be on the same path as Morinth. She’s a heartbroken mother who gave up everything to hunt the monster she made, similar to doctor Victor Frankenstein.
During the romance scene in ME2 she takes Shepard’s hand and leans into the kiss, but before it goes any further she stops it and says “in another time… in another life…” before leaving the room, in an out of character emotional outburst. She wants that relationship with Shepard but she’s also suffered too much emotional trauma and decided long ago that all she could ever be is a justicar. In the citadel dlc she opens herself up a little more but no matter how much she wants it she’s pushed herself too far down the justicar path to ever have it. “In another time… in another life…” was very literal.

Not only do I love Mass Effect, love the genuine gamer knowledge this entire video displays, actually agree on almost every single point made about the characters, and think this whole sketch is well-written... Javik has some of the best interactions and banter. Putting him in D tier is frankly criminal; he should be B tier as he's a solid pick but not developed enough to match the A tier competitors.
Honestly the only characters who I would put below B are Jacob and James, and I don't think any characters are D tier

I think it's because Miranda realises she has more growing up to do without Shepard. I like that most of her human side developed off camera where she realised that she was more than what Henry Lawson made her and Cerberus used her for. Miranda is easily one of the standout character of this Trilogy.

Honestly, that's more a reflection of how trash Kai Leng is, since he just barely beat the guy with one foot already in the grave.
If we're going with Miranda and this line of thinking, S-tier all the way:
1. Brings Shepard back from the dead in ME2. Solved death via "resources." Imagine what other minor problems she can solve in minutes.
2. Cares about her family/tragic backstory about wanting one, but can't get pregnant. Just wants to be happy and loved for who she is.
3. Is the main Cerberus-loyal character that realizes they aren't good for the galaxy through Shepard's involvement.
4. Is plot centric to ME3, with multiple solutions for her ending. Provides tracking data on Kai Leng -- exactly what the team needs at that point in the story.
5. Will always kill her father even if Shepard strikes a deal with him.
6. Is near indestructible in the Suicide Mission in ME2.
7. Has one of the only 2 P/R conflicts in ME2 with Jack.
8. Outside of Samara, the most attractive female of the bunch.
9. Game play options are fantastic, basically a suped-up Sentinel version of Garrus (team leader in Suicide Misssion) with biotics, an aura increasing squad health and weapon damage, and Overload.
10. Biotics, tech skills, leadership skills, stronger, smarter, faster, and can heal faster than average humans.
11. Huge chip on her shoulder about her genetic origins and talents, compared to Shepard's skills and experience.
12. Can infiltrate the Citadel and get away with it.
Cons would be:
1. Not a squadmate in ME3.
2. Doesn't wear a helmet, and uses the ME2 breather masks.

Id add cons such as: 1. Her me3 presence is just repeating her loyalty quest arc all over again, disappointing. 2. Due to how me2 is structured, she simps hard for cerberus ideology and has to have a hastily written scene about using the base being a betrayal to indicate her progress. Cerberus dickrider when jacks trauma js unveiled but the collector base is the last straw?
But she played with my Little Shepard while I was asleep w/o my consent and is a Tinder ho lol

I would argue B tier for Jack 'cause those of us who don't romance her see significantly less of her character development. Although this is mentioned in the video, I still feel that it's understated.

I remember playing ME2 for the first time. Was a child and had no idea what I was doing half the time. I was more concerned trying to get the Assault Rifle while using a Sentinel... But I remember just skipping through dialogue and ended up getting romance with Jacob. I didn't realize at first. But I remember finding out, and I remember in ME3 being pissed off.
I'll bet most people's experience romancing Jacob was also by accident, nothing to be ashamed of. :)

I understand why Legion gets the spot as he does, but I actually liked this character as much as I do because we don't get enough time with him. He embodies so much more but we only get a glimpse of it and that makes it more interesting, I feel. Personally, Legion is an A-tier character.
Javik is one note but I love it anyway! He exists to destroy everyone's preconceptions of his race and mocks, derides, and condescends everyone. He's from a time and a place that extends past the current galactic society's mores and is unapologetic about eating, enslaving, and experimenting on primitive races. He'd be considered a racist, bigot, fascist, and bastard by today's standards and he'd agree with all of those things. I love it. More than that, he says when his mission is done, he will go to the grave site of his people and kill himself there. When his mission of vengeance is finished, so is he. For unapologetically being completely who he is, sticking to his own code of honor even if he is in turn mocked and derided for it, that deserves some mad respect.
The Protheans were basically Nazis with a heavier leaning towards science and knowledge, which is why they're the second best race in the franchise. And I think it's hilarious that the progenitors responsible for Bioware's xenophile galaxy were literal space Nazis

I think you should've added more to miranda than just a person who goes from being an ice queen to being nicer the shepard.
Miranda is basically a human version of grunt, being someone who was genetically designed to be perfect like grunt, and her loyalty mission gets to show her more human softer side, showing that even a cold soldier like miranda can be a good person with their own personal lives.
James and EDI are awesome . They and Ashley pretty much made up the squad I used for the entirety of 3.

Mortin is the greatest story for me. I started out hating him. Then he became one of my all time favorites. Normally I either like or dislike them right off the back and don't really change. Wasnt the case here.

Miranda is one of the best characters in the entire trilogy and I hate BioWare for gutting her arc in Mass effect 3. Miranda's whole arc in ME3 is so contrived and bullshit. The safest place from Cerberus is literally with Shepard. Liara is the Shadow broker and can easily use her contacts to locate Oriana. Shepard ha Spectre status and can literally object to Alliance sayign no to Miranda on the Normandy hell they probably wouldn't care since they trust Shepard anyway. Miranda SHOULD have been a squad mate in the third game.

If I ever get god like powers. What I'll do is take all three of them, force them to playthrough the Mass Effect series, and actually rate the squad list. Imagining them all sitting in one room trying to place everyone.
How the f××k Javik ended up in D tier is beyond me.
I love all the squad mates. Yes even the f tier ones. Whenever I replay the trilogy I always make sure to choose all the squadmates and shuffle them around to gain a full experience with them all. I got no favorites. Also when it comes to Romances since I only ever play a male shepaloo in my experience the most rewarding and long-term Romances are Ashley Williams, Liara t soni and Tali Zorah.
Plus I never really got the hate for Jacob Taylor or James vega. There both petty much interesting characters and are much needed additions to counterbalance the huge idealization and hero worship that some of the characters in the series have for Cmdr shepard.
I may not agree fully with the list but I have to respect how based it is.
Putting Tali and Garrus in A tier may not have been my choice, but they gave actual good points.
Garrus is the best, but more tension with him would have made him even cooler, and Tali really doesn't stand out until ME2 despite how great she is for the rest of the series.
And finally someone who doesn't completely discredit James, Ashley and Miranda by only judging they're superficial aspects.
James might be basic, but he is at least really fun all the same and I love his relationship with both Shepards.
Ashley might be too confrontational for most of the games, but you can understand her prospective most of the times and she ends up developing into a loyal squadmate,also her being a bit racist is only a thing in the beginning, she grows out of it.
Miranda isn't just a nice ass (although her assets are admirable for sure), she has a really nice plot with her family and grows to become a more caring and less rigid person.
I liked Jacob, he just needs more action. Solus stole the show in ME2. And if Jacob had a story like that he would be liked.
First off Miranda is A Tier simp or not. Her role in ME3 is the most fleshed out non squadmate character besides maybe Anderson. She's mid in ME2 but sure bonus points for hot. She's one of the more delightful interactions in the Citadel DLC. Easy A

I disagree with the presidents opinions about Morinth and Samara. One thing, Samara is a warrior who did the nasty in the pastey which caused her three deathly daughters. One of which decided to rebel against the harsh but understanding treatment given to Ardat-Yakshis. Samara tries to make it right by hunting down her daughter and Morinth could somehow convince Shepard into melding with her despite the deadly effects. Samara also ties down her story if you don't kill her by saving the monastery at the expense of losing another daughter. How Morinth was written in ME3 was lazy and they missed out on potentially giving her a redemption story by saving her sisters but that's EA for ya.

Legion's sacrifice made the Geth sapient, not sentient. They were already sentient.
Gonna have to interject on Biden saying that Morinth has "zero redeeming qualities". If you play a certain way, picking Morinth over Samara, then during Suicide Mission have her lead the second team, she will get mortally wounded by the Collectors and die, but her dying words will be "at least I got everyone through", as she led the second team through without other casualties. This scene is short, but to me was very emotional, as I saw Morinth, who you would assume is a ruthless murderer and cold-blooded killer, essentially give her life when it counted, putting others before herself at the cost of her own life. That for me is her one redeeming quality, a noble final act.
I would still put her in F tier though, understanding that barely anyone gets her as a squadmate, and they kinda do her a squadmate in a cheap way by having her mimick Samara. But I still pick her every time I do my personal canonical playthrough.
But what made her to act like that though? Without good precedent those words sounds empty.
It only took dying for her to actually care about other people.

Kaidan is just bland but Ashley is interesting. She actually isn’t a xenophobe, just some military humor and if anyone paid attention to her family background you’ll find the Alliance made it hard for her to trust others. However she always had her team’s back no matter what and treated everyone with respect.
No, she did not treat "everyone" with respect. She's antagonistic and mean to Liara a couple times in ME1 for reasons that seemed based entirely on her dislike of aliens. In one of the crew meetings in the first game, Liara tells Shepard and co. that they need to hurry to Saren's next destination, which was accurate, and Ashley immediately goes "Who put *you* in charge? Did Shepard resign when I wasn't looking?" while smugly crossing her legs. It was entirely uncalled for, and I don't believe for a second that it had nothing to do with Ashley's racism. I don't even like Liara that much because she's a boring character to me, but treating someone poorly for being a different race from you is a mark of a shitty person, and like it was said in this video, her racism seems to be one of her key personality traits for her character.
@@Choshako believe it or not Ashley was right to call Liara out. Liara overstepped and Ashley had every right to make the demand that Liara respect the chain of command. Not everything is black and white and Liara overstepped. There was no xenophobia involved PERIOD. If I were civilian military (which Liara is) and I tried to pull something like that, I would be on the receiving end of the exact same treatment as Liara had received because I failed to respect the chain of command. That’s how it works. No one within the military wants or needs a civilian to determine what course of action to take unless they were given authority to make the decisions or even insist on a decision. Civilians typically are not allowed to insist or give orders, only to advise and suggest, and Liara was insisting on an action. Granted Ash should’ve let Shepherd address it but she had every right to set Liara straight.
