I found your video a while back on your entrance admissions physics test. Im glad you are taking a well deserved break. And how are your braces. Did you get teeth removed? Please relax and stay focused and find your method of learning whilst on your break

My braces are a bit annoying to clean but otherwise ok. Fortunately I didn't have to get any teeth removed. Thank you so much for your comment!

Thank you for sharing this :) I'm also on a years suspension from Oxford and related to your story - I was wondering if you felt that antidepressants have been helping you / what your experience with them was, as I had to rusticate for depression and have been given the option to use them as a treatment?

      @tis_i_sana  2 года назад

Hey! I really think anti-depressants have helped me! They got me out of the really bad state so I could work on how to get better and could actually do things again. I feel so much happier now. I had side-effects for the first week but now I have absolutely no side-effects :)
If you want to ask about anything more then please reach out to me on my instagram! @tis.i.sana I'll be happy to answer any more questions you have about rusticating/anti-depressants etc

Hey, I'm glad you chose the right option for you. I currently have an offer to study engineering next year at oxford. I wasn't expecting to get in so I had another uni in mind that I was planning to go to. Now that I got an offer, I'm not sure if I should take it or turn it down. Would you recommend oxford to incoming students or would you suggest that the culture of the university makes it a less positive experience than going to another university that is less prestigious? I'd love to hear any advice.

Hi Allie! I am actually going to be releasing a video about what I don't like about Oxford in the next week - this will talk about all the negative things I found - usually you will come from being the top in your school to one of many exceptionally clever students here and sometimes it can be really disheartening and puts you off continuing in a STEM field. I would say Oxford definitely is intense in a way different to other unis and not for everyone but there are lots of students that would feel like they are in the same position and there is definitely a supportive community for that and you won't be going through anything alone.
On the flip side however, you are surrounded by insanely brilliant minds! Having intellectual conversations can also be such a good way to stay motivated! And you can always talk to someone/get help for your subject as everyone is passionate about it! And you really get skills/opportunties/experience (weird oxford traditions) that you wouldn't get anywhere else and I personally think that makes up for the hard work you have to put in! I would recommend Oxford to incoming students and in all honesty although I've had a tough time here so far, if I went back and chose my unis again I would pick Oxford again :)
Please do check out the video when it comes out and I might also make one on the positives of Oxford. Hope this helped :)

First year undergrad here. My Michael term was miserable. I worked so hard and barely got any sleep but I feel like I gained close to 0 knowledge about my degree. All of the essays I submitted make no sense, and I found most of the lectures insufferable. I should come back for Hilary Term now , but I have had some personal issues in December (besides being exhausted) and I wasn’t able to revise during vacation for my collections, which are at the end of the week. Nor I was able to get through the reading list for my upcoming tutorials. So probably my first week in HT will be a disaster (fail my collections and my tutorials) and I will get further behind with work. This is my second degree, so suspension for me isn’t really an option. I thought about it a lot and I don’t think its about the subject I am studying also, i think its perhaps that my personal way way of learning is incompatible with oxford’s rhythm and method of teaching. I was thinking of dropping out altogether …

I'm so sorry to hear that but I fully understand your situation. What subject are you doing and what college are you at?
You said you worked hard in term. I did the same. I didn't do much over the holidays so I think I won't do well in my collections now. However, I know I learnt the content well in term and so if I revise in the next few months I will be fine for my final exams.
Think about your situation. Are you the same as me? Or actually did you think you worked really hard but didn't get much done? So you don't know the content that well? In this case you put a lot of hours in with little productivity. Simply put, not sleeping isn't productive. You need to change the way you work.
I think now you need to reset and realign your priorities. Collections won't influence your final degree but your final exams will.
      * What do you need to do now to do well in your final exams? *
Do you need to study differently? Study in a different place? Have study meet-ups with your friends? Can you look at the previous lecturers notes? Other learning resources? Can you ask your peers or someone in the year above for notes?
Think about these questions and whether you can do better from now. I found asking my friends for help and people in the year above for notes helped me a lot.
Remember the gruelling application process? They thought you would be someone who could do well here but sometimes you just need a bit more support to adjust.
Talk to your tutors. I know you said suspending isn't an option so talk to them about what the right option is, how hard you are finding the course. You can also talk to your college welfare officer, the university careers service, the university counselling service for further help. These are all avenues the university has to help you to succeed.
      Talk to them about:
How to study better? What resources are there if the lecturer is bad? Any textbook or old student notes? Talk to them about your personal situation and if they have extra support for that? Talk to them about your career goals. Ask them if your degree is necessary if you already have one? Is dropping out and going somewhere else a better option?
Finally, I think after some deliberation you will find if oxford is the right option. Will it benefit you and your life goals or will it kill your ambition? This is your second degree, don't think about the 'Oxford' name, think about the bigger picture.
I think you definitely still have time to succeed in your degree so don't just write yourself off as someone who will fail. Have a think about how you can do better from now and what you want to get from your studies here.
I wish you all the best. If you have any more questions, I'd be happy to help!

Last minute studying could be undiagnosed ADHD - time blindness and executive dysfunction disrupts time mgmt
