I appreciate videos like this. I want to know the good, bad and the ugly before I bring an animal home.

I've been looking into leachies for years, 4 years to be exact. That's when my son brought home a bearded dragon and we had to figure out how to take care of the little guy. I found geckos in doing so. I now have 15 crested geckos with 6 babies lol. I bought the leachie I dreamed about 2 weeks ago. He's only like 10 to 12 grams 15 at most, but I get Jabba out every day for 15 min and I feed him some while I have him out. He already comes out when I open his lid, I know more for food than for me, but I am hoping putting in this work today will pay off tomorrow with him. Love the content!

I do not recommend using a glove. Handling these geckos requires a degree of tactile feeling that gloves will block, and you will end up being more rough with the gecko than you intended. You want them to get used to your hand and not a glove. Honestly their bites are not bad, they bite and let go for the most part. Much different to tokays or white spot geckos that latch on and violently shake/deathroll

@@snakekeeper2073 a good point! I honestly believe the jump scare is what people are most afraid of. The bites are generally not bad, but they can be. I say bad as in you are going to bleed- but in comparison, no- they arn’t that bad.

I really like your videos. They are really informative and I like that they’re not too long. I’m more likely to watch a 10 minute video as I don’t always have time to watch a 30 minute video.

Thanks for the info! I've got my first leachie arriving soon. It's just something I've always wanted to have - just one. No breeding. I'm a chahoua, crested and garg person mostly. In terms of the enclosure defensiveness/aggression I have heard theories that this may have to do with the cork rounds themselves. If, for example, they are given cork flats this seems to decrease/eliminate this behavior. I'm going to test it with mine as it matures. I know they prefer a round, but it would be interesting to see if rounds vs. flats makes a difference in this behavior. Nice video.

In my opinion it does make a difference. It’s just hard to deny them something they prefer for our own benefit. I do have a pair of adults with lots of cork but no “rounds” and neither of them have ever attempted to strike at me. Maybe a little huffy, but it’s also easier to pick the flat up and bring them outside 😊
