Ó Bhean a'Tí - Clannad, 1979

Clannad perform their arrangement of the traditional song ‘Ó Bhean A’Tí’.
The song Ó Bhean A’Tí was recorded recorded in Bremen, Germany for the live Clannad album ’Turas 1980’i.
Clannad were formed in the early 1970s in Gweedore, County Donegal comprising musicians and singers from the Brennan family.
This episode of ‘The Humours of Donnybrook’ was broadcast on 7 February 1979. The presenter is Ciarán Mac Mathúna.

I heard Clannad live in November 1979. They were great! I’ll remember that night forever.
They were playing at the parish in Staten Island where Fr. Charlie Coen was a pastor, and Fr. Charlie and his brother Jack opened the show on concertina and flute.
I ran into a friend there and then we went up to the Glocca Morra Pub on the Upper East Side to hear Joe Burke and Andy McGann play button accordion and fiddle. Joe was so excited that I was playing music in a Ceili band in Denver with Packie Flanagan from Mayo (God help us) that he wanted to introduce me to two of his journalist friends, Pete Hamill and Jimmy Breslin. They were so great to talk to and wouldn’t let me buy a round no matter how much I objected. (They knew the skinny young fiddler from out West had a very thin wallet without even seeing it)
As they now say, the craic was 90, and I’ll fondly remember that night forever.

what a racket
