  • Well, it's finally happening, I'm getting time to work on the Jeep project again. Here I prime it with Rustoleum red oxide primer for rusty metal.
Please keep in mind, I am not an autobody worker nor am I a painter, this is my personal project. Also, this is intended to be a trail rig and it WILL hit things. With that, the paint job is only protective, not 'pretty'. The idea is that when it gets dinged or scratched, it will be easy to repair and repaint.

Paint recommendation... You should or look into using industrial signal stage for your finish coat. Like on heavy equipment, easy to use, very forgiving, long lasting, very tough and touch ups are easy.

Thank you, I always appreciate tips and viewer input. Honestly, I had actually looked into it, but I couldn't get the color I wanted in a flat or matte finish (I need to mix it for the color I want) but I could get them in Rustoleum Oil Based Enamel. Industrial paint and, believe it or not, the Tractor Supply Farm and Implement paint are, as you said, SUPER DURABLE and easy to touch up.
I **KNOW** this will get scratched and dinged up, since it's a woods / trail truck project so the paint selection (and ease of touch up) were really a big consideration! LOL
