Hey Greg Buddy! I just ordered one direct from EVGA minutes ago! I have been waiting a year for the 3080, and decided to go for it when they sent me an email that it is in stock. Factory price, and one thing I like, is direct from them with any latest improvement/update. Here is the other thing: After getting the email I goofed around looking it up etc for an hour and a half, and they STILL had them in stock. - One to a customer. I FINALLY found a 3080 ONE YEAR after I started the hunt. I hope this helps! Ordered at 4-27-21, 2:00 PM CENTRAL time. i hope your fans can find one now. :-)
I have this card in an ncase m1 and although the fans add some noise, the thermals are incredible. Quite an awesome performer for the 'lower' price point compared to other cards.
This thing runs hot, be warned. I have the ultra and cannot keep the clocks under control in stock settings. Image that I got much better fps in hard games when undervolted it a LOT. BUT, I have a profile now with 825mV @ 1845 core and consumes 70W less (yes!) with max temp 59 (80% fan speed on full load).
This is the card I have. I camped out at Micro Center at 3 am to make sure I was the first one there when they got stock. Not the design I was planning on getting but I'm happy with the performance
Hey, everyone! A few have pointed out that this is probably the _Gaming_ or _Ultra_ variant of the 3080 since it includes a backplate (and the _Black_ doesn't). This review sample wasn't shipped in its original box, so I was basing this information on what I was told. Assuming this is the _Gaming_ model, the price essentially matches the Gigabyte Gaming OC version. Hope this clears it up. Sorry for the confusion, and good luck in the giveaway!
A number of users seem to be reporting 80C temps with high fan RPM on this model, would have interesting to see some noise normalized temps , or at least run the fans to where they are subjectively "just OK" from a noise point of view and see what the temps are.
@@puresheep5863 evga has a queue system that allows you to sign up and you will get an email letting you know its your turn. Then you get 8 hrs to buy your chosen card.
A good honest review, Greg. EVGA does have a habit of saving the best performance for their higher skews. Overall their products are usually all rock solid!
Worth mentioning the dimensions of this card. With the exception of the FE this is one of the smaller 3080s both depth and length wise so it will fit in micro ATX cases whereas the faster cards won't. Its a great choice if you can't fit a full 3 slot card in your case.
@DMoney Industry I'm actually waiting until I can get a 6800 or the xt version. Currently running the 5700xt and I'm quite happy. But a free 3080 I can't turn the chance away. :D
Thanks for the review! I believe there’s some confusing info here. EVGA actually offers the XC3 cards in 3 versions: the entry “black” one (which comes without a backplate), a mid tier (same as black, but with a backplate) and the Ultra one (has backplate and slight OC). While the text says you tested the “black” version, the one you are holding has a backplate, which means it’s either the mid tier or the OC Ultra version. I’d be curious to know if those performance numbers are for the OC version or not.
I lucky enough to get a 3080 XC3 Ultra a few days ago! My local central computers had a waitlist and I only had to wait 2 weeks after putting my name down! Paired it with my 9800x and being able to game maxed out at 1440p 144hz with Ray tracing is the best feeling ever. Also after gaming for a few hours I never went over 72c
Heck yeah, what great timing! I've been looking at this card like crazy because it's one of the only 2 slot 3080 cards available. Also, it's crazy close to the dimensional limits of my Era ITX case, which sounds cool. I appreciate the sound, honest advice and the giveaway.
Did you ever get one? I just pre ordered one for my nzxt h210 build, it's 2mm shorter than the gpu it'll be replacing which was already extremely close to touching the radiator
This is the exact model I want, since its the only one that would fit in my case (mini ITX) I wish you had done an undervolting analysis It should help with temps and noise
I have a XC3 Ultra, and with some simple undervolting, I can get better performance than stock, more stable clocks and with much colder temperatures, like sub 70 degrees depending on the game and room temperature at 75% cooler speed (really quiet). Some RayTracing games like Metro Exodus usually gets the card much hotter though, getting near the 78 degrees mark and higher cooler speeds.
could you help me achieve this? i've pretty much just been using evga precision x1 to overlock, using 200+ core clock, and 300+ memory clock, im using a 3080 xc3 ti, but I assume its pretty similar
It's nice to put the nitty-gritty of stuff like thermals into context like that. Sometimes people do forget that the extra like 4c isn't reaaally gonna change anything.
Great review Greg! I'm grateful you're giving us the chance to get the card and honestly a 3080 is a 3080 nevertheless of the model. Good luck everyone!
I got super lucky and got one of these cards last week. Just put it in my system last night, and noticed some cool stuff. 1. It’s normal height, so when I upgrade over it, I can move it into my ITX living room PC. 2. It doesn’t really sag much. :) So happy I got my hands on one and that it fits my specific needs even though I just bought it because it was the only one available. Best of luck to everyone else. Screw the scalpers.

So you're saying it just does not have good thermal performance out of the box? I'm not surprised with the low noise and only dual slot form factor really.
This card is weird. Noise normalized, it is great! But the stock fan curve is VERY quiet. I have the XC3 Ultra, and I use Precision X1’s “Stealth fan curve” with added ram stop under 55C (also the different fans I tweaked to be slightly different from each other to avoid resonance, each fan is off from the others by about 1% RPM), and it outperforms the FE I used to have. In part due to the fact that the XC3 Ultra is factory OC, but also due to the fact that those minor fan tweaks dropped me 5 degrees Celsius to 72-73 C, lower than what an FE does (in my system 74-75) at stock. Also, what you said about the fans being lower pitched is totally right, and that makes the card seem even. Not a bad buy at all (though personally I wouldn’t get the lowest end mode with no backplate). Edit: Important note, the lips are now black!
I've actually been in queue for this very card on Evga for a little over a month. 2 buddies got theirs at 5 weeks and 6 weeks, so I am REALLY hoping I get mine soon.

Man you guys are so fortunated xD you have access to technology, those cards basically dont exist here in Ecuador not from the very beginning not even now, and the few ones that on the market the official price, not even from scalper sellers is around 1500 dollars because of importing taxes, 3000 dollars de rtx 3090. Having one of those is a dream in Ecuador, if I'd had one tho I wouldn't use it for games, I would use it for renders. Cant even apply for the give away cause my country is not in the list ahaha, is funny life is hard sadly.
Im running this card atm, installed precision x and set it to the aggressive fan curve and also updating the firmware. Before that was getting about 78 degrees max, now getting 71 and around 61 degrees max when jamming some games.
Its an 850 supply. I've determined that my bios is running on legacy and also out of date LOL. After under clocking my card it stopped bsod as fast. So gonna try that ^_^
Man your videos helped me so much especially with cable manegement and stuff I recently got cable extensions to finish the look of my pc but it’s super dated at this point since the 30 series cards came out ...gtx 1070 but luckily I have a great upgrade path since I’m on the and ryzen platform 3600
Note that the $730 XC3 Black version is the one that comes without the backplate (at least based on what I see on sale pages), it looks like you have one of the more expensive versions with the backplate for $750 or $770.
I can deal with a little hotter card as it's one of the very few 2.2 slot cards (which you didn't mention). Having at least one case where anything over 2.2 slot card is a no go, I'm very happy to have a high end card that that I can actually fit into my Nouvolo Steck 7.8L case. I can very easily adjust the fan curve as desired. My other builds can handle up to 3 slot cards and those will get one of the higher end 3080s (hopefully a 3080 TI), like an Asus Strix, because they are a bit bigger ITX cases.
I didn't mention that it's a "2.2" slot card because I already said that it's "a bit wider than a traditional two-slot." That degree of precision for something like this is pointless.
@@GregSalazar Not trying to be hostile. I only mention 2.2 slot to distinguish it from 2.5 and 2.0 that is the limit for many cases (though usually a 2.2 will still work in 2.0 slot cases), so people will be aware. Keep in mind for the us us in the IXT wold it is not pointless. For example in my Nouvolo Steck the difference between 2.2 and 2.5 is the difference between it fitting and not fitting. The point I was attempting to make that for those of us with IXT builds a 2.2 slot card at this level of performance is very important because this the the XC3 black are the only cards I know of (last I checked) that will fit in some case.
I'm surprised the model you've covered has a backplate -- I also have a EVGA 3080 Gaming black GPU -- was the backplate a recent addition? thanks in advance

Nice video and competition- would love to win. Yep the spec of this card is to sell others in their line up for extra. Fan curve is interesting and thanks for comparing that and temps, for future reference.
How did that work out for you? I picked up an EVGA 3090 XC3 Ultra this past weekend and it runs way too hot. I had to lower the VRAM frequency by 1,000 Mhz and drop down the core clock down few 100 Mhz, along with cranking up the fans to keep this card from melting.
Is this the XC3 Black Gaming oder the XC3 Ultra? I'm asking because of the back plate which looks like the Ultra to me, since i thought the XC3 Black Gaming came without a back plate.
The card you are reviewing is a XC3 Ultra not a black as the Ultra has a backplate the Black does not. I can not stress how good these are undervolted my Ultra has a core clock of 1980Mhz @ 900mv mem@ 10002Mhz running at 65c under full load.

I almost got one from a Best Buy drop a month ago, now wondering if I get the chance if I should for sure but it or not
Great video, i have one of these coming Thursday
Relevant, No bullshit reviews as always 👌🏻 cheers from South Africa Greg
P. S. Crying cause newegg doesn't ship to this damn place 😢
Super nice you doing this for your community. Just really nice 👍 made me smile
I like your stance on the supply issue!
I agree with testing it out of the box. You are testing what the product can do, not how you did on the silicon lottery. Besides, the headroom for OCing isn't what it was.
my main game at 4k is gta 5, i also play metro exodus over and over and over again i just love that game so i only look at gta 5 benchmarks, so glad you showed GTA 5 benchmarks. its a really popular game it even today, so im glad its still being benchmarked
Not the clown lip design! The horror giveaway winner will have.
Kappa
That red part comes off and they’re making black ones you can swap it with just FYI
@@TechWithSean I'm fairly certain I remember GN doing a teardown of this card and it doesn't come off it is part of the entire shroud. You also can't remove the red from the backplate. This was just an out of touch move by evga and they will learn when other cards come in stock and they aren't pushing inventory

Here is the video start watching at 26:25
I got the black clown lip with my FTW3 Ultra so it's almost invisible in my build.
I got the black lip on my Xc3 ultra
Man you guys are so fortunated xD you have access to technology, those cards basically dont exist here in Ecuador not from the very beginning not even now, and the few ones that on the market the official price, not even from scalper sellers is around 1500 dollars because of importing taxes, 3000 dollars de rtx 3090. Having one of those is a dream in Ecuador, if I'd had one tho I wouldn't use it for games, I would use it for renders. Cant even apply for the give away cause my country is not in the list ahaha, is funny life is hard sadly.
Great video! On another note, thanks for your stance on the shortage issue.
what bis the optical Difference between the EVGA RTX 3080 Black , Gaming and Ultra ?
i don't see any optical difference...
I appreciate your stance on the stock situation.
As always my country is not on map again .Beautiful giveaway and review Greg
Im running this card atm, installed precision x and set it to the aggressive fan curve and also updating the firmware. Before that was getting about 78 degrees max, now getting 71 and around 61 degrees max when jamming some games.
I just acquired this card and i'm having issues of it crashing my pc do you have any advice?
@@mr_wenzday What psu are you running?
Its an 850 supply. I've determined that my bios is running on legacy and also out of date LOL. After under clocking my card it stopped bsod as fast. So gonna try that ^_^
@@mr_wenzday Yeah im rocking a evga 850 so that should be fine. Yeah im not sure whys it doing that
It was a really good honest review anyone has done on the RTX 3080. It would be so nice to win one. Keep it up.
Greg always looking out for his subscribers and the people who weren’t as fortunate to get a 3080
Europe: UK & Turkey.
Wow. Nice. Thanks, Newegg. So global. Much generosity. :/
Thanks man. Love how real you are.
That doesn't look like the Black version though, it looks like either the Gaming or Ultra Gaming model. The Black version doesn't have a backplate.
exactly. i think he has the gaming
Man your videos helped me so much especially with cable manegement and stuff I recently got cable extensions to finish the look of my pc but it’s super dated at this point since the 30 series cards came out ...gtx 1070 but luckily I have a great upgrade path since I’m on the and ryzen platform 3600
This isn't the one I wanted, but it's the one I was able to successfully order on amazon a couple nights ago, which is a win in current era. :)
Note that the $730 XC3 Black version is the one that comes without the backplate (at least based on what I see on sale pages), it looks like you have one of the more expensive versions with the backplate for $750 or $770.
Hey Greg! Do you recommend getting the Xc3 or the FE? I have a friend who is willing to give me either.
That's a slim RTX3080, so nice I love it! Thanks for the giveaway, I'll be very happy to get this card :D
who win the giveaway?
I love the honesty in your reviews man 👍
mine arrived today so happy
Greg the real MVP making global giveaways
Thaks for the giveaway! Good luck everyone!
I have this card on notify me on EVGA website, let's hope we can see this soon
Honesty the cooler seems to be one of the weakest of all 3080's, I would look at another model.
Great video, Greg, thanks!
just got this card last week. its great. Temps are better though. Cant get it above 71 degrees at stock.
this review is spot on, camped out at micro center for one of these bad boys, wish evga did a tweak to push it out of the box
Dude this is awesome
I actually have this card. Water cooled and very happy. Albeit lacking the backplate?
Thats the card I want. I have a EVGA RTX2070 Super XC Ultra 8GB DDR6. Im not rushing to buy a 30 series card. Im more interested in a RX6800XT tbh. Its a good time to be a PC enthusiast.
Edit: after watching the video I think I'll be looking for a Gigabyte 3080 instead. Thanks Greg!
Nice, enjoyed this video.
Good luck everyone!
Nice video and competition- would love to win.
Yep the spec of this card is to sell others in their line up for extra. Fan curve is interesting and thanks for comparing that and temps, for future reference.
Just bought a 3080TI should be coming in a few days. Thanks for the great review. even though I am late... :)
Well I've entered did it all fingers crossed ayy and nice review man some parts made me chuckle lol
? What is a good budget video card paired with ryzen 5 3600? For gaming and streaming.
Just so you all know, chances of any of us getting this are much more likely then getting one from anywhere else.
trueee
Is this the XC3 Black Gaming oder the XC3 Ultra? I'm asking because of the back plate which looks like the Ultra to me, since i thought the XC3 Black Gaming came without a back plate.
I like that card a lot, I might get one before the 4000 series comes out!
The card you are reviewing is a XC3 Ultra not a black as the Ultra has a backplate the Black does not. I can not stress how good these are undervolted my Ultra has a core clock of 1980Mhz @ 900mv mem@ 10002Mhz running at 65c under full load.
