When i was young, i made those things in my room... Love to see i'm not the only one... lol!!
Rube Goldberg was a cartoonist who made a comic strip with invention designs with the sole purpose of making a very simple task very complicated. The most common example is the children's game mousetrap- which has many levers, pulleys, weights and in the end... drops plastic cage onto a mouse-shaped game piece. Now, some people actually BUILD these machines, and they're quite interesting to see and call them "Rube Goldberg" machines out of reverence.
The more complicated steps can (and sometimes have to) be calculated immensely to ensure that the same result happens over and over again, it's basically stringing several machines together and having one activate the other. There simply is no better way to practice engineering than with a Rube Goldberg machine.
"I like to bring my grandkids to show them that science is fun." *cuts to clips of bored grandkids*
I am here in 2021.
Best part of this video is, without a doubt,.......the absolutely epic facial hair!!!
"so my kids can come and see that science is FUN" ya right
i think the hardest bit is to set it back up for another show
This stuff just fascinates me.
King Triton called. He wants his crab back.
Such a cool contest.
@MKotthoff they are participating in an activity that sharpens their minds and developes their creativity. There are few better uses of their time during college. Most of these students wouldn't be in the field of medicine, there would be many engineers a few mathmaticians/computer science types and maybe a few creative arts types. so unless you want compleately unqualified people working on a cure for cancer (these are undergraduates of various courses) I don't know what you expect.
@Twisted86 smarty pants, awesome observation
@Potatochucker6 ironic that you misspelt misspelled then.
transporting those things must be hell
@andobandito Rube*? M8?
"flames, explosives, and live animals are prohibited"
Me: XD
@freezing3345 WHAT RED HAIRED GIRL?
You guys worked through Spring Break!?
We are a better species for doing things like this.
As much as I love these machines, I gotta say that if it came down to either hot girls in bikinis or long hours of constructing little machines, I'd have to go with the first one :D
I am here in 2022.
@:25
OOOH A GREEN BALOON!!
CHeck out my Rube Goldberg machine!!
he speaks the truth
I know it was the reason I watched it and there was nothing!
winnar!
i think he would be more pissed off you miss spelled his name
Or possibly you attend a school that actually teaches things that matter. I'm a huge fan of Rube Goldberg machines, don't get me wrong, but I've certainly never learned of him in a science classroom.
Yeah, I don't see it.
MY TEACHER SEND ME THIS XD.
@airsoft78910
My question is how in the hell is a Rube Goldberg machine considered science? At best its a show of engineering.
Was this recorded with a calculator? xO
um.. guys, i forgot to press record :P
@jakesroomguiter25 And you're true love us grammars.
Just show us the damn run!
wow, you're a smart one, aren't you?
BOILER UP!!!
Very true, haha
washington state college from Ohio?
1:47
WHY!!!!
@andobandito LOL!!! Yeah, I am surprised skinning a cat isn't an option. ;P
Kidding, kidding! I have two cats and love them dearly (I /promise/ I don't do anything bad to them >.
theres a reason you cant answer that
someone needs to build a Rube Goldberg device that uploads actual footage of the entries in action from start to finish instead of just saying the same shit in every video and only showing a couple of random seconds of the devices.
I dont think any of them have girlfriends. They're true love is science.
because they are bored?
Or maybe they have nothing else to do?
orange juice and juper agent 00J?? lol thats a bit fishy
1:37 HIPSTER
yeah, nerds that will be rich in about ten years...
what is with that beard?!?!?!?!
what is with the praying mantis beard
1:39, omg wtf is up with that beard!
Tch.... Go look at Japanese versions and cry >.>
well,,,, isn't it somewhat stupid to call this engineer and science for college level? I understand for elementary up to high school but.. yeah.,
