It is a wonder more of us didn't die. I watched that fight and was screaming from the opening bell to the last bell; give him some water at the top of my lungs. Cruz was givin' plenty of water every round and splashed all over with it. How Barry lived and fought on I will never no but he got not one swig and was never splashed down. I remember sometime after the fight he said he hit a wall and knew he was in trouble. I don't think he ever knew his old fashioned out dated corner beat him. He had a lot of old school in him for his day. I had a strong will and was always the last to drink water on a hot day. I never knew why I was so exhausted after a hard event on a hot day. Even cool days. My friends too but they always gave in before me and even "cheated" during the event by taking water or sneaking it. By the time we were older the myth was destroyed and I always marveled at kids swilling water beginning to end. Poor Barry was in the wrong place with the wrong corner and I know it shortened his career. He was as pale as a ghost at the end and I was angry and hoarse at the end and broken hearted for him. A lion and tiger and no water. What a tragedy!!

McGuigan fought so cleverly that night. He was always just inside Pedroza´s reach, which made it hard for him and caused him to rock back in order to try and punch effectively. As he was also smaller than Pedroza he could also frequently come up at him with hooks unseen. Perhaps to non-boxers it all looked random, but McGuigan´s defence was also (mostly) superb, watch him move in the 15th like he was just still at the start of the fight. That´s how alert he stayed for 15 rounds to avoid the traps that Pedroza constantly tried to set.
A great night for British boxing. I was there as a lad... what memories. Nothing like a knockdown in a live fight to get the juices pumping. The atmosphere was crazy.

@@xlbubblehead2505 Those were the days. Harry was a true gent and really knew boxing, at any weight division. I loved listening to British boxers fight: Bruno, McGuigan, Watt, Eubank. Sadly I can remember lisetning to the Eubank/Watson fight.
Think we can all agree that if this Prime Barry boxed a Prime Pedroza they would only be one winner and it wouldn’t be Barry. Pedroza such a great champion for 7 long years 20 title defences 19 successful ones 🥊. This Prime Barry Mcguigan had to go the full 15 rounds to outpointed a old and past his prime Pedroza just goes to show you how great Pedroza was. Barry was a good fighter and a good little world champion and a Great crowd pleaser 🥊
Don’t think we can all agree on that at all. Pedroza was a long standing champion who padded out his title tenure by fighting mostly stiffs. He nearly came a cropper against Lockridge Taylor, and Laporte. Two of which McGuigan beat handily.
I remember when Barry first appeared on British television. As he stepped in to the ring my mother said, is that little boy going to fight! And when I said yes, she replied... oh the poor thing!
I was rootin' for Mc Guigan... Pedroza had the most defences for that weight at the time. Big heart. At 7:58 the round ends. At 8:0, Pedroza takes a right and somehow walks to his corner! And we weren t even to the 10th yet! Pedroza knows he s the old guy. Nice little headbutt at 10:15 ( it scored, too!)

Barry a fantastic fighter
Barry campeón efímero first denfense looser
I was 12 years old watching this fight unforgettable 🎉❤🥊
Me and my wife were lucky enough to have a seat in the sixth row one of the best fights ever in my honest opinion and so lucky to see it live. Barry McGuigan, such a humble man..
First live fight on the BBC I believe. Great fight.
I doubt that.
The first live fight on the BBC was in 1933
BBC television…….
I remember this fight very clearly, sat on the sofa with my mate Bill (4th dan Taekwondo blackbelt) willing Barry to win, he did but great respect to Pedroza who I think had been champion for something like 9 years.
Absolute incredible fight
I can remember listening to the fight on Radio 2 - there was no Talk Sport then. You really got a feel for the fight with Harry Carpenter's commentary. Great fight.
@@xlbubblehead2505 Those were the days. Harry was a true gent and really knew boxing, at any weight division. I loved listening to British boxers fight: Bruno, McGuigan, Watt, Eubank. Sadly I can remember lisetning to the Eubank/Watson fight.
Pedroza looks like a pint sized George Foreman in his prime.
Great Atmosphere Great Fight……….Great Night……..Awesome
Watched this fight, in a packed beaver dam in bailieborough, as a 15 year old barman,,a night I'll treasure.
I watched this fight back in the day
Think we can all agree that if this Prime Barry boxed a Prime Pedroza they would only be one winner and it wouldn’t be Barry.
Miss people like Harry Carpenter.
When the BBC screened live world title fights a classic
The Fitness levels needed to box toe to toe like that for 15 rounds is amazing, that was thrilling to watch 👏👏👏👏
Brilliant fight. One of the Neat ever
What an insanely good fight 😮
I was rootin' for Mc Guigan...
Pedroza had the most defences for that weight at the time. Big heart. At 7:58 the round ends. At 8:0, Pedroza takes a right
and somehow walks to his corner! And we weren t even to the 10th yet!
Pedroza knows he s the old guy. Nice
little headbutt at 10:15 ( it scored, too!)
15 rounds not like now they are all gased and only 12 rounds. Barry mcguigan the best irish boxer ever
If boxing had a peak then this was it.
Great fight.
Barry was some man for one man
2 fine boxers, very very fit and on top of their game.
Was there QPR plastic pitch,what a night❤
What a great performance by Barry McGuigan. Awesome performance. Did Harry not like Barry ? Strange commentary. Barry won the fight by a mile.
Love Barry's whipper snapper style.
Loved Mcguigan, such a gutsy fighter.
I always thought Pedroza was "juiced" between rounds during this fight. What was his trainer slipping him when he staggered back to his stool?
Exelente pelea
He’s on “I’m a Celebrity, Get me out of here!” At the moment, had to see him boxing
My favourite boxer my favourite fight
Barry was a legend great fight 😊
Remember watching this, I was 15 at the time 😢
yes hed did he got him with a RIGHT!!! classic harry carpenter
He's talking about Harry Carpenter. The commentator of this fight for the BBC.
Que buena madriza le pusieron a Pedroza
Imagine McGuigan vs. Mancini-that would be the brawl of all-time!
Mancini would have been waaaaaaay too big for Barry.
Legends both👊✌️
