@Sinister as a big Nirvana fan I hate when people engage in gatekeeping circle jerks like this! I guarantee you've most likely never actually talked to most people you see wearing a nirvana shirt and probably just assume because they're not typically what a Nirvana fan looks like that they don't know anything about the band but let's just assume you're telling the truth for a minute how does them wearing a T-shirt without knowing who they are change nirvana's music or legacy ? It simply doesn't! Don't mean to sound rude but I really hate this type of self-aggrandizing no true scotsman attitude people have when it comes to things they like as if they don't own stuff that they don't know every detail about It's the same argument used for cultural appropriation just because somebody wants to wear dreads doesn't mean they need to sit through a 2-hour lecture about the history and racial prejudice that black people have traditionally endured and still do when they do it It's not the person getting the dreads you need to be mad at it's the society and system that's to blame Just like how courtney Love and record label have turned Nirvana merch into a brand you can buy at Walmart for 5 bucks!
I am a super Nirvana fan, this is shockingly good. Best "Like Nirvana" cover i've ever heard! He's obviously taking a couple of inflections of his own around 3:50 on, but man... when its THIS GOOD who can complain?! Post Malone is defining himself as above genres.

Edward forrester just meant it as no matter what genre John has a guitar, it’s not the same for post which in a way made it kinda a bad comparison lmao

Disagreed! Now that there are no shows for people to attend is the BEST time for artists to experiment with other music styles! Gone are the days of cd sales when albums would go platinum anyway as it's all about streaming nowadays, but at least he wouldn't have to worry about following up a potential album flop with a full tour to support it.

Holy fuck!!! I'm 60 and had never heard of Post Malone until I saw him guest-hosting IMpractical Jokers tonight. Figured he must be important so I googled him and saw his musical accomplishments. Went to RUclips and when I typed in "Post Malone..." the first return was "Post Malone Nirvana." I was like, WTF? So I clicked and saw this. Never seen a band come close to capturing Nirvana's sound or Kurt Cobain's voice like this. I am now an official Post Malone fan and for die-hard (and old) Nirvana fans like me - THANK YOU POST MALONE FOR THIS BEAUTIFUL EVENING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Woah. Being a huge Nirvana/ Kurt Cobain fan, I’m left with my mouth hung open. His voice, the music, wow. I’m amazed. Please cover another Nirvana song!
Post Malone is one of the few mainstream artists who can be really considered an artist. Even though I don't listen to his music, he knows how to play guitar, and has some musical knowledge, he's not the typical "I will puke into the mic and let the producer do the magic and music for me" Also he looks like a really chill guy and down to earth.
@@johncotto48 I completely understand the reasoning behind it but surely he's made enough money to make the music that he wants. This is all speculation of course. Perhaps he really likes pop music 🤷
He was off pitch frequently, guitar was out of tune on occasions AND STILL i didn’t give a crap because the whole thing was just right, it had the rock heart in it. Beautiful!
The fact that he put on an old dress just goes to show how much love & respect Posty has for Kurt. Not a Post fan, but if he puts out a grunge/hard rock album I might just become one😉✌🤘
Yeah ,I' m well 54 so well and truly around before ' grunge' so like you don't really like Post's music HOWEVER..holy fuck if he rocked out and sang like this then I'd own every album in vinyl..he makes a great rock front man 👍x
To say that this is impressive is quite the understatement, apparently there isn’t much Posty isn’t amazing at musically. He is now taking pop country by storm and the world is loving it. Me I’d rather see him become a rock star after witnessing this performance. My 22 year old daughter is a fan of Post and has been telling me about him for a while and I wonder what she thinks of this cover
This is why Post is one of the few rappers I really like. He can sing different genres amazingly. I'm a big Nirvana fan, but I also like a lot of his rap stuff.
Did he anyone notice first verse that was Post Malone's actual singing voice and then other verses he added that lame wanna be stevie nicks sheep singing like he does in Circles and all his shitty pop songs? Just hold the note goddamit lol First verse is proof he can actually sing! I'm stunned tbh
How am I just finding this! Love love love Nirvana and Post Malone and my gosh this is incredible. If Dave and Krist ever wanna do a nirvana show Post could 100% be our Kurt for the day
This is authentic as hell. Post kept the Punk Rock in the song, I was fearing some overproduced commercialized cash in. This is not that. This is a worthy cover of a classic song and I'm quite sure Cobain would have approved.
@@tommytwo-times9053 There IS vibrato--listen to when he sings "Meat-eating orchids forgive no one just yet...." And it is present in other places as well--and I enjoy hearing it.

I have no idea who Post Malone is, but, until today, I've never heard a 'good' Nirvana cover. Kurt's extremely unique voice and style of guitar playing means that most Nirvana covers will sound 'wrong'. Post Malone is really, really close. A few vocal warbles here and there, but honestly it comes across as emotion, which Kurt had plenty of. Well done!
The vocal warbles are actually a staple of Post Malone's sound. It's very heavy vibrato, a technique he has taken to an extreme that seems to work really well for him.
I'm sure that Kurt would be very impressed! I love Barker's style of drumming but how freaking awesome would that have been if Grohl was the drummer in this?!

how does them wearing a T-shirt without knowing who they are change nirvana's music or legacy ?
It simply doesn't!
Don't mean to sound rude but I really hate this type of self-aggrandizing no true scotsman attitude people have when it comes to things they like as if they don't own stuff that they don't know every detail about
It's the same argument used for cultural appropriation just because somebody wants to wear dreads doesn't mean they need to sit through a 2-hour lecture about the history and racial prejudice that black people have traditionally endured and still do when they do it
It's not the person getting the dreads you need to be mad at it's the society and system that's to blame
Just like how courtney Love and record label have turned Nirvana merch into a brand you can buy at Walmart for 5 bucks!

My 22 year old daughter is a fan of Post and has been telling me about him for a while and I wonder what she thinks of this cover
This is why Post is one of the few rappers I really like. He can sing different genres amazingly. I'm a big Nirvana fan, but I also like a lot of his rap stuff.
I'm all in on Post Malone going grunge. Dude's voice is killer when he isn't hiding it behind autotune
