Great to hear an Air Canada captain making solid decisions with a safety-first attitude!
Air Canada pilots are tops👍
I live in Maryland so this video is really special to me. I truly loved all of the great aerial footage of Washington DC and the surrounding areas. This hits pretty darn close to home so I thoroughly loved it and I will not razz the Captain for pronouncing Potomac wrong, after all he doesn't live here and doesn't realize how we actually pronounce it. I'm just glad I had the chance to see and enjoy this video. Thank you Just Planes. What a treat this was.
Glad you enjoyed it! I believe in 31 years of filming this is our only landing into this airport. We did a couple into Dulles but the approach is nowhere near as nice.
@@justplanes Makes it extra special nice. Thanks for the info. Always great videos from you.
When I was a kid I watched these videos all the time. Now I regularly fly this approach. Thank you for the inspiration! Maybe one day you'll film my flight deck :)
Thanks for your very enjoyable and informative video, from an old Australian pilot who once flew American skies.
Oh nice, glad you enjoyed it, thanks
JP...hello again!) Really loved each second....!! Many thx....nice day JP;)) let's connect!)) Greetings X Betsy......
Incredible views absolutely amazing video always amazing filming thanku so much love and God bless x
Someone should inform the captain the pronunciation is phonetically, pa TOE mic river! Lol
It’s so wonderful
👍
poe TOE mick River (or something close) is the usual local pronunciation.
Not from around here?
Wonderful approach👌 and excellent landing.👍
Glad you enjoyed it👍
Very informative and great video thank you
You're very welcome, thank you!
Any questions? Yes…
What’s the name of that River? Are you sure you want to slow to 210 at SKILS? Did you verify any of the waypoints in the FMS or did you just read the chart? Lastly, what revision cycle are you on? 2011 paper charts but the video is 1 yr old. Check your remarks there eh…
Nice landing
Patamac? Ouch!
I know, rough… poor guy probably got slammed for that 😂. Having said that, would love see to an American pronounce Mississauga or Saguenay 👀 🇨🇦
What is the Pontanack river?
it's jeff biscuit lewis at the controls
Jeff indeed :)
Was in the USAF at the Pentagon between '80 - '82. Spent many off days at Gravelly Point plane spotting, a park immediately off the departure end of RW01 (RW36 back then) with my Radio Shack VHF receiver. Terminal & tower have changed. Some airlines have gone away. The "banjo" back then was home to TWA, Northwest and New York Air. Appears today, it houses AC, SW & FFT. Nice video.
I thought company procedure was to line up with the taxiway?
Thanks all
Top 👍🇧🇷
Thanks Paulo👍
Poe-Toe-Mack
:)
The what river?
The Karina Hart river
Potomac River, Washington DC.
Uh huh, that was an “interesting” pronunciation of Potomac, for sure.
@@aerocoaster3252 Yes! The Powhatans were the ones that named that river. They spoke the Algonquian language. Many of their words and names of many things are commonly used and fused into our language, for instance, tomahawk, moccasin. I'm sure more. mostly names of places...... I find it so interesting the Powhatan people.
@@johnipennie2021 You didn't get the snark as I live 3 miles from the Potomac.
Captain rocking those Prada glasses though
👍
What happens if that knob you turn snaps off?
You tape it back :)
@@justplanes What if the it breaks inside and you can no longer use it.
@@phumes4783 use a different knob ;)
@@nathanmcguire932 Say there are no spares?
excellent landing ..
👍
Superb
No VASI on that strip ?
Not sure
I've flown this approach. It's really cool and we would do the "circle" to 33. BUt by far the favorite is the River Visual from NW to 19. So cool to fly. BTW, how old is this? US Airways aircraft? That's who I flew for. Reagan National is one of my favorite places to fly into and out of.
Pretty sure this is air Canada
@@adray239 no if you watch the video there are US Airways aircraft in it. For ex waiting to takeoff as the Air Canada plane lands.
@@michae8jackson378 thought you meant the plane that was being flown, Who was answering to Air Canada
@@adray239 no worries. I should have made it clear what I was talking about. I assumed....and we know what that means right🤔🤔😳😳🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think early on, he reads out the chart version, and I think I hear "February 08", and the existence of the Cactus callsign definitely seems to support the 2008 guess
What airline still uses the callsign Cactus? Or is this an old video?
US Airways did
@@krzysztofem7237 yeah, but they don’t operate anymore. Hence why I asked if it’s old🤣
@@DeathRaven. Video is from 2012
@@krzysztofem7237 ah, ok.
Absolutely can NOT stand that style of flight control! Ugh!!!!
I have to say MSFS2020 looks better than this approach video ...LOL 🤣
Shut up. Not funny. Didn't laugh.
M
Man what year was this recorded? 2003?
was that a bad year for you :) ?
@@justplanes LOL no. The liveries of the traffic on the ground at KDCA...Then I rewound to 5:25 and heard him date the STAR chart at 2008.
@@PorcelainKilt It was nice seeing the US Airways livery. Brought back memories.
That 250 at Baltimore was so confusing back then
👍
13 detik🗿
👍
He doesn't know how to pronounce the Potomac river.
It’s so wonderful
