How to Apply VinylGuard® Polyurethane Satin Vinyl Tile Sealer For LVT Tile, Terrazzo & Rubber Floors
Today we're looking at our VinylGuard® system for sealing and protecting vinyl floor, LVT, LVP, and other types of vinyl, rubber or laminate flooring.
This is luxury vinyl plank flooring that you see here, and it is very popular with the wood look finish.
Before we seal it, it's important to clean and prep the surface.
To do that, we use one of our cleaners - like our Neutral GlossClean® - or you can use our SurfaceTreat®.
If you have large floor areas and you use floor scrubbing equipment, typically we add about two ounces of the GlossClean® to a quart of water or eight ounces to a gallon.
That'll be a good amount of cleaner for a deep clean.
If your floor surface is brand new, or is not very dirty, you can cut that dose down to half. (One ounce per quart. Four ounces per gallon.)
You can spray the cleaning solution on the surface of the floor, or you can mop it on if you're doing larger areas.
With the cleaning solution on the floor, scrub the floor using a maroon pad or a green scouring pad.
If you've got a larger area, you can use the 3M SPP pad with your floor scrubbing machine.
If you have new vinyl flooring, often there's a protective film on the surface.
What you need to do is to scuff it up a bit with your scouring pad.
You’re not trying to remove it.
Just trying to dull the surface down a little bit.
After we've scrubbed the floor, we need to pick up any residue.
You can do that with a damp mop or a damp cloth.
Just make sure that the floor is clean, and then allow the surface to dry.
You should give the floor two to four hours to make sure the seams are dry.
Use floor fans to speed up the drying process. Do whatever it takes to ensure the floor surface is completely dry.
If needed, use a dust mop or a Swiffer mop one more time to pick up any leftover dust, footprints or pet hair.
We don't want to be sealing those down.
If you have an old floor, worn out floor, or porous floor, then you should use our PrimeSeal as the first coat on the surface.
This is a very fast drying primer. It will put a nice, uniform seal across the floor, and provide a good base for the VinylGuard®.
Our floor now has a nice layer of PrimeSeal across the floor.
This helps with waterproofing the seams, as well as giving us a good base for the VinylGuard®.
Once the PrimeSeal is dry, after about 30 minutes tack free, we can go over with the VinylGuard®.
Now this is a two component sealer. An “A” side and a “B” side that you mix together, and then apply on the floor with a roller.
We have a third component called a reducer for thinning out the product - if you're doing large areas. This will be included in the VinylGuard® kit.
However, as we're doing a sample area in this video, and we're using a small amount of the products, we don't need the reducer here.
    We're applying a Satin finish VinylGuard®.
So that comes in the sample kit with three ounces of A and one ounce of B.
Start with the A side. Pour that into a mixing cup.
Then, add the B side to the mixing cup slowly while you're stirring.
The B side is thicker than the A side, and it tends to sink to the bottom.
So, make sure that you are getting the B side well stirred into the solution.
We're going to slowly mix the A and the B together.
Remember, this is a sample kit, so there's no reducer.
Just keep it mixing for about two minutes.
Then let it stand for five minutes before you apply the sealer.
After the VinylGuard® solution has stood for five minutes, you can roller apply it across the floor.
We recommend that you use a three-eighth nap roller.
It can be a mini roller if you're doing small areas or doing around areas along the walls.
If you're doing a larger area, use a nine-inch roller, or something larger.
The important thing is that it's a three-eighth nap roller.
And make sure you have plenty of VinylGuard® solution on the roller so you can spread it out evenly across the floor.
