    "Sanam" means idol, a god/goddess who is worshipped, a term of endearment for the beloved. Sanama means "o (my) sanam", o my goddess, adressing the beloved, asking her to allow her heart being one with his heart. So the literal translation of the refrain would be:
    Ba man=with me
    sanama=o goddess
    del, del, del=heart, heart, heart
    yek dele=one hearted
    kon=make
    In Persian language, the verb comes usually at the end of the sentence.
    The line is from a poem of Rumi, an Iranian Poet, who lived about 700-800 years ago.

    • @pedramborhan
      @pedramborhan 3 года назад +5

      You almost describe it correctly A. Riddlemethis. Sure, This is a song from the the Lover to the beloved. But, one thing you need to know is that it's not referring to the Earthly Love, but one of the Spiritual nature. So, here the Lover, the human being (Rumi-Molavi) is calling upon God Almighty (The Beloved). The Lover is longing to unite with His Beloved,the source of Love.
      Remember in many schools of Mysticism as -Mystical Sufism teachings- (which Iran is A Standard-Bearer), as well as in the Christian School of Mysticism for example, you would call upon God with those attributions. The Christian Teaching for instance: God is Love. That makes the man seeking the divine connection with longing, the Lover. I give you lots of credit, you broke down the word by word definition to a tee.

    • @a.riddlemethis795
      @a.riddlemethis795 3 года назад +3

      Well thank you for aknowledging my efforts, but when you say "school" you probably mean schools in Islamic Republic of Iran, where love between human beings is seen as something dirty and everything is forcedly interpreted to be "clean". Wine is spiritual, women are spiritual, dance is spiritual... And there's no earthly love to be found. They even censor the poems that are too direct to sanitize. To be honest, I'm sick and tired of that.
      In the same poem that Homayoun sings here, Rumi says: with Quran (si pare) in your hand you went into isolation (to meditate). I am Quran, leave the isolation!
      Si pare be kaf, dar chelle shodi
      Si pare manam, tarke chelle kon
      And yet, sanama is somehow meant to be a spiritual symbol of God, you think :)
      No doubt, Rumi was a mystic and a religious scholar, but since I cannot ask him what he meant, his poems are open to interpretation.

      @@a.riddlemethis795 I think you made my point for me. Your description Validates what I tried to explain to you without knowing it. Sure, You are welcome to interpret it to your liking if you wish. I don't know where in the world You get the Islamic Republic out of this. Mysticism has its school of thoughts, as every teachings do.

    But the great master of Kamanche is Keihan Kalhor. Really worth listening to
    ruclips.net/video/vxmJCk9J5fE/видео.html
    By the way it's a classic Iranian music, not folklore. We also have folklore which is more tribal and regional. The notes and sequences are completely different. For folklore you can look up Kurdish music which Shahram Nazeri is master of. Or Khorasani or Baluchestani.. the classic Iranian music is very organized and has it's own precise sets of rules. Mastering it needs years. But folklore is much more of a free style. It's not as complicated and the instruments are a bit different.
    There is a video by Mohsen namjoo explaining Persian notes in English. You can watch that to understand it better.
