Do you memorize what you're gonna play or try to memorize the scale and chords and improvise ? I'm at that point where I listen to a song and give myself 30 min to figure out everything on paper but, I'm still too bad with the theory to start playing the chords and improvise on the spot.
I'm always questioning about that too. In my case, before recording, I play this a few times thinking about the chords and scale and memorise the one specific progress that I'd like to play. And then I record it!
