Small and light with simple ergonomics for me. I’ve done multiple big and heavy boxes, no more. I think most of this is age dependent. I can’t handle big and heavy gear easily as a geezer. When younger, I didn’t mind as much and kind of enjoyed it. Aesthetic tastes also evolve, as noted.
I used to be of the attitude that looks don't matter and that it's all about the sound. But the older I get, the more I share your attitude about large, heavy, and especially garish components. Don't need them, don't wan't them. Those 60, 80, 100+ pound monoblocks on the floor with the huge lettering or 8 pairs of tubes per side... Or speakers that look like they would kill you if they fell on you. No thanks!
Taste in design and looks is a fun thing to think about.. i personally have both speakers and an amp that i know some hate and some love.. the speakers i was questioning myself when i got them.. so different compares to a normal box that i had before.. But the sound.. wowsa.. and the design have grown on me. The amp is the Gato Audio Dia400s.. and i love that design.. and sound is brilliant.. bested everything that has been here.. both 5x more expensive stuff and all classes of amplification.. But the speakers.. Egglestonworks Nico Evo.. in black metallic paint with the black anodized alu from plate.. today it's just a pure beauty! :)
Hey, Dave 👋 I think you’re thinking of D’agostino amps? 🤷♂️ I also prefer a rather understated look to my gear, but of course looks matter. We love music so much that we spend a lot of $ and on reproducing it, that it better look good to us. My friends are flabbergasted when they asked how much, and I told em..lol 😂 Even if it’s a small amount, I don’t believe anyone who says looks don’t matter. C’mon…be honest with yourself 😂 I don’t dig flashy. My main speakers are Tekton Pendragons bass reflex high sensitivity (two 10” drivers with 3 tweeters in between) in a somewhat MTM / D’appolito array. Those and my Klipsch Fortes. I like the simple aesthetics of both.
Definitely matters , and also the feel when you touch it, I don’t realized this until I had a unit that turn8g it on off was a not pleasant… trust me it matters also.
Nice! I'm with you on the Wilson's although I do like the Watt. I do like meters though. Looks are all in the eye of the beholder. You probably wouldn't like my integrated., the Pathos Classic One Mk III. I love the design, and I think of it being an industrial type of design. Cheers.
Dave, looks aren't my primary concern but man are there some gaudy components out there. I like well built simpler designs without any gold influnced trinkets hanging on. I have seen some truly ugly designed speakers that I would never own regardless of sound.
I like a lot of different HiFi styles. I like black with lots of little lights, like stars and planets and fire on a night sky. I like technical lab equipment stuff. I like "ugly" industrial military looking stuff. I like retro early 20th century, almost steam punk looking stuff. I think my favorite is the super unrefined stuff that looks like it was built in someone's garage. But there are some things I find truly ugly. I don't like the looks of Wilson Tower speakers. I'm not a fan of the Marantz look, not even the stuff from back in the '70s. I don't really go for the fancy jewelry aesthetic of equipment that mixes silver and gold. But even the stuff I think is ugly is rarely so offensive to me that I wouldn't gladly set it up in my house to listen to it for a while. Oh, I like the professional broadcast equipment of the late '60s through mid '80s look a lot!
nope.Dont worry the baffles work wonderfully in here my friend. Please watch my frequency sweep video.I run open baffles for a reason. The image is dead center bass lightning fast and a ton of meat on the bones.Any comment about the video subject matter?
Hey Shrink, I appreciate a damn good woman, but if she looks good at the same time, winner-winner chicken dinner. Appreciate you man, rock on brother!
Love your positive vibes man.Always a pleasure to read them!
Looks matter for sure. Less is more in my book. Sleek and simple. Keep up the great work!
Indeed and hey thanks so much🙏

I am with you
I just upgraded to some pretty speakers but now I never look at them because they truly "dissappear". Never draw attention to themselves.
ok cool.I get it

My vintage NAD and Adcom is all black or gray. Now I prefer brushed aluminum or silver. Good thing we have choices.

No.way to setup so they can image and breathe better?

didnt want to slaughter brands. Some are just hideous
I can only afford simple design.
I understand but simple designs do come in all prices.
