Hi Joe. I did exactly the same yesterday and went out and about in Hastings (my home town). You hit the nail right on the head with getting out and about on a grey day. Great pics and video
That's what I like to hear. Thank you so much for letting me know and thanks for your compliments. Hastings is a great place for photography and for a few drinks. Enjoy!
Very inspiring, thanks! The contrast between the dull colored videos and the lively colored photos makes your point well. It is November here on the continent, it is as overcast as in UK and I will bring out my old Lumix GF1, looking for scenes in this old, beautiful little town.
Hello Joe. I prefer grey skies to rain, but I prefer sunshine. Thank you Joe for the tour of Hastings. In France, in Aquitaine, I visited the bastide city of Hastingues founded in 1289 by John de Hastings.😉😉
Thank you for your support as always. It means a lot. I know about the weather in Oregon. You still have some of the best scenery in the world though 🙏
@@joeredski Yes it is a beautiful place, I admit. The weather can be much like England at times - I had the time of my life living in London (and also Jersey!) from 1984-1990 and took amazazazziing photos of people and places there during those years!! Here, the world seems to become very flat, and I reckon the rain makes it even harder for me to want to take out my cameras to the elements. I do love shooting color after a rain at night to get neon and lights on the wet roads and such...I guess we have to make the best of any weather and conditions and give a chance for experimentation to occur! 📷
I must visit there one day. I’m not a fan of the rain. I definitely need a waterproof camera. Oregon must be an amazing place for landscape photography!
I forgot to say yes I have loved and been a "black and white only" film photographer. I had a darkroom and studio in my basement and did a lot of great portraits and prints in there! Oh those were the days before digital!!
That’s fantastic. I bet you have some amazing work. I’d love a o give film photography a go one day. Film photography has made a bit of a comeback. There are some interesting photographers on RUclips who specialise in film photography.
@joeredski Hey! I am trying to get myself started on the scanning of thousands and thousands of film photos lol, it's gonna be a big job but I really want to accomplish that this year. I have put some film photos on my Flickr pages (over 10,000 photos I have posted there!!). I have not been really uploading there for a few years now and I hope to revive that collection and continue to put those film photos out, both there and in a video presentation for my peeps to view and enjoy. I think of how much I spent getting rolls and rolls developed back then and through the years! FIlm is more expensive nowadays and I have about 6 rolls or maybe 8 that need to go to the darkroom = $$$ lol ! Anyway I grew to love digital photography as well, even after I ssswwwwoore I "would never do that" hahaha foot in mouth and gimme that camera haha! Lol 😆 Thanks for another great video and chatting! Ya'll take care over there now!
Portland, OR is a fantastic natural soft box from October until April and again from April until October. Sunny bits on occasion add to the adventure. 😀😀 As would be expected with conditions like these, the photography community is strong.
Thanks, man. I think next time I go to the states I will definitely visit Portland Oregon. I've heard so many great things about it and I've seen stunning scenes in videos and films.
If photographing people is your thing you need to go out in different weather conditions if you can, people behave differently depending on the weather, wear different clothes, and there is different lighting like you mentioned
Thanks. I'd love to go out in the rain but my camera is not waterproof. My favourite time to go out is when it's sunny and at night time. People behave differently every single time I hit the streets.
You’re making me want to get one of those cameras. I might have to see if I can sell one of the kids…. (That’s the nickname I give my cameras honestly it is)
Great stuff, Joe. Your tips sustain me, especially this month waiting for my GRIIIx to get back from the shop.
Thank you so much my friend. That really means a lot. I hope that your camera gets back to you soon.
I like your tone and pace. It leaves room for the viewer to imagine things and not be overwhelmed by information.
Thank you for that thoughtful comment. Much appreciated.
I got impression of watching old 16mm film with great textures and colors. Many thanks for sharing with us.
Many thanks! I appreciate that comment 👍
Getting some lovely colours there..
Thank you very much.
Thanks Joe. A very good video with lots of good advice.
My pleasure. Thank you for your support.

Really useful video, Joe! Many thanks from Melbourne, Australia. 🙂
I'm glad it was helpful my friend. Thank you very much.
@@joeredski It certainly was - I've just subscribed!
Great images Joe! I photograph on gray days as well. The best gray photos for me are at the shore in winter.
Thanks for that, Victor. I appreciate it. The shore in winter time is one of the most beautiful places to shoot, especially when it's a gray day.
A great video, thanks. A also like that you always explain why you set your camera in a specific way.
Thank you very much. I appreciate your feedback man. I’m glad you enjoyed it 👍
Thanks Joe. Just what I needed.
My pleasure. Thank you 👍
Thanks!

Thanks for comment my friend. Exactly the same as me. That sounds familiar 😅 I bet it’s a beautiful city.
@@joeredski Yes beautiful city. There is a beautiful fortified gate, the main street with cobblestones and a little piece of ramparts.
@orvozon2914 Sounds wonderful. I must do some research. Thanks 👍
Quite useful advices if you like photography and you live in Paris ! We’re having an overcasted weather since months !! Thank you Joe 😊

Very nice video Joe. I personally like soft light but it does become a challenge in terms of settings in the gloom,
Thank you very much. I guess the settings can become an issue depending upon how gloomy it gets. I appreciate your comment.
Joe, you're making me want to pick up the camera and head out the door.
That’s great to hear Scott. Thanks so much for the support 👍

Thank you. They are great cameras. I'm not sure if you should sell one of your kids for one, but I guess we will have our own priorities.
