you install the hood sideways the longer petal should be on top. :)

Did you put the adapter ring on sideways? I have the JJC hood for the RF35mm as well, and it works fine... but if I bump the lens hood it can shift the adapter ring, which turns the petals of the hood. JJC makes some decent hoods, but this adapter ring setup for RF35mm isn't quite on the same level as the others.
