Henry Rollins: _"Let's see some ID!"_ Burglar: _"I don't have to show you ID."_ That burglar doesn't know that Henry Rollins ain't fallin' for Jedi mind tricks.
Henry is the man in my book. He is such an inspirational guy, I mean he's lived through and experiencened all kinds of crazy shit in his life. He has refused to settle down and become a boring family man. Instead he travels the world performing, and helping out charitable causes of all kinds. The man certainly deserves respect, he's rich enough to where he could retire but he still works harder then most people half his age. Not to mention he was one of the pioneers of harcore punk.
This reminds me one time, I saw a man on the door trying to rob my house and for a moment I thought he was trying to fix/repair my door and cause I didn't know what to say I asked him: What are you doing? and he said: nothing, I'm leaving. ...True story.
Those are the best six letters in the english language. Completely informal, but absolutely serious. A testament to personal responsibility and to the bonds of social teamwork.
saw him in manchester a couple of days ago. totally agree with other comments about taking a comfy cush cush to sit your botty on kids. most important. really enjoyed his stories. great raconteur.
I wish I could talk like Henry. I have a lot of the same ideas, but I just can't express them worth a shit like he does. I'm sure I'd have a lot of badass friends.
I was planning on seeing him in Aberdeen aswell, but wasnt able to get to both shows :( , will def. make as many of his as i can next time! :D The story of drinking the coffee in Iran was classic :)
i'd rather not, because i'm real, so i cant go away, because than id be unreal, and that my friend is totally surreal, and i have to exist man, else nothing will be real, so you go away, and not be real, and ill continue living in the post-surreal
Saw Henry speak live about 2 yrs ago and he had another story about someone trying to break into his house. It was funny as hell BUT the poor guy was a huge fan with a spectrum disorder. Tried to sneak onto Hank’s property about 3 times and eventually had to be deported back to Scandinavia. Henry expressed how truly bad he felt for the guy but the way he described those incidents had us all dying laughing.
I'm trying to start to read my 1872 volume of The Universal Self Instructional. It's my G-G-Grandfathers home maintenance and construction book. I know there is a wealth of old knowledge in there, but the book is that fragile, I'm scared to open it in case it falls apart.
Yeah I mean... I don't think yt was typically social media friendly til late 00s like there were many basic features missing (you can see how messy/missing comments and replies became when scrolling down in 00s videos beginning from like what 2005? So there was no way to ping anyone and instead all comments were kinda all over the place. But the vibe was incredibly way better back then and not just youtube. myspace and shit. People used to be way more social back in the day, even online.
@@paul_henderson I think also, despite the thought and insights contained in Rollins spoken word work, it can also come across like "shout TV" (I think that's the term") and as such it reinforces certain beliefs and encourages (or even causes) a level of insularity, thus reducing actual conversation. Idk it's complex... But I think by now his audience is "the converted" for the most part.
@NothingSacred27 "The bigger issue, of course, being why so many people who apparently hate him are bothering to watch his videos anyway." Excellent question. I think it's mostly that people with miserable lives like to make other people miserable, whenever possible
'surreal conversation'..everybody has 'em..some more than others. I respect his brutal honesty puttin it all out there. all these things we're programmed to be "embarassed" to speak of. in these days of "political correctness" spread like a cancer, its refreshing. just talking about in front of a large audience must be freeing in itself
Is it all like Black Coffee Blues? Which I found as a narration of brutal tales wrought from a obviously intelligent thoughtful man tormented from a life on the fringe far from what we would call "decent" society. When one travels beyond middle class happy TV American society into the dark loneliness...it permanently marks you and you can't ever be "normal" again, much like what makes Rollins special.
He says what he does is spoken word, just because there a few jokes thrown in doesn't make it a comedy show. And you know what? Too many jokes would water down the heartfelt messages he brings to his audience.
I love that he still holds the mic like he's at a punk rock show
NOBODY'S GETTING THE MIC 😡
One of his trademarks!
This man is my hero
Akariel same here.
Akariel Me too my brotha

Only Henry could invent a phrase like "Six-Million-Dollar-manning it down the road"!
"i'm on it"
I love that he came to fame as a punk rocker, & now he does smart comedy & has a cool talk show, go Henry Rollins!!!!
When i grow up i wanna be Henry Rollins
Sounds like the synopsis of a David Lynch film. Nice.
xjames118 And Henry had a bit part in a Lynch movie!
he is funnier than most proper stand ups
This has aged like fine wine

Dude this guy is so real. How come there aren't more people like him. I'm solitary like this guy in so many ways its not even funny.

When he says "That's some pretty heavy shit" I die laughing.
Brilliant real man! Henry's an amazing person.
Surreal conversations keep us sane :)
am i the only guy who realizes how multitalented this man is?
Yeah that one song that was on the radio for 5 min in the 90’s was awesome. His cameo in The Chase was movie magic as well.
this guy is so emblematic of the artistic and intellectual depth of all the GenX self-promoters...
i love love love love henry
i love how he says: you just have to love yourself. It sounds so cute
Dude, I nearly peed myself. Henry Rollins is straight up crazy pants.
The first time you call him "Henry" when you are by yourself.. thats when you know you really like Henry Rollins.
Great. Thanks for the cutoff at the end.
Rollins is a hero to me because of his relationship with the USO. It doesn't hurt that he has written some great music over the years.
Why would you cut the video there?
the video was uploaded in 2007.back then there was a 10 minute limit for videos on youtube
@dnggitg Very well put, my friend. George is The Man for me, and punk George is what Henry is, indeed.
I. Am going. TO SEE HIM TONIGHT! SO EXCITED!!!!

he's just freed of barriers
yo. 13 years later, do you feel you are a better speaker now? in the way you had probably envisioned 13 years ago?
I was planning on seeing him in Aberdeen aswell, but wasnt able to get to both shows :( , will def. make as many of his as i can next time! :D
The story of drinking the coffee in Iran was classic :)
There is no God but Music, and Henry Rollins is His prophet.
That last bit was epic.
Wouldn't doubt it.
search for henry rollins surreal conversation pt-2 and there it is
Henry is great. lol
I love the sobbing part! lol
I don't know which is worse: that an awesome guy like Rollins is having to "sleep" alone, or that his hand's imaginary voice is so masculine....
No questions about it.

Henry Rollins reminds me of myself so much, it's kinda scary.

I love you, Henry. Give yr hand a rest, babe!
