I'll tell ya what: Henry GETS people. He get us poor, unpopular people. And god do I love him for it. He's quirky, smart, funny, cute, and a VERY talented musician. He's a very good man.
This guy is actually really well spoken. From what he mentioned about his early life - working in a fast food joint with no other skills; life's underdog - it's really inspiring to see how he's blossomed into an articulate and worldly human.
For a guy with only a high school education (as well as being a poor student), I must admit that he seems much more insightful and well spoken than many people I have met who have college degrees.
What an extraordinary man he is ! Been a fan for 25 years. When I was a shaved headed kid, flirting with neo nazi skin racism, one of his radio interviews on JJJ Australia turned me around. I met him once years later and didn't think to tell him ( a bit star struck). He may never know, but if he reads this he will.
I don't know I'd always call Rollins "easy going" he's a pretty intense dude. Extremely passionate about what he stands for and does. He certainly tells people what they need to hear and never simply what they want to hear, and he never sugar coats it. He is a genuine human being.
For the last 25 years I've stuck to what he taught me and confronted racism every time I encounter it, and there's been some tense situations. Thank you Henry, for being brave and making a difference! He also put me onto bands and 'black music' for which I will be forever grateful. If there was one person in the world I could sit down with and talk to, it would be mr Rollins. Thank you, so much!
I'm not a fan of punk music (but I love the idea), never really listened to the world he came up from, but man, I like to listen to him speak. I see him as a good man using his fame to promote very good ideas. I salute him for that.
I actually did tell Henry that I downloaded some of his stuff one time, just in passing, in an email. I just wanted to tell him how much I admired him and enjoyed everything he does. He even wrote me a few lines back, saying basically "I'm just a guy, working, trying to get along like everyone else. Don't admire me too much." Which, of course, had the opposite affect. ;-)
I must admit, like a lot of people, I have called Henry arrogant, pompous, loud mouthed, opinionated, self centered, etc..... but I also must admit, I usually agree with him 100% on what he's saying
I can keep the audio from this and place it as a ringtone, or keep it as a track on my ipod. its that amazing, and that mesmerizing. Henry Rollins is a brilliant man.
' it's time, it's time, time to align your body with your mind, it's hero time'' - shine - weight album - Rollins. This is what makes him so formidable !
"These guys want the dream more than I do." He's seen the reality of it. He's seen all the nuances that break down the dream. Don't get romantic over this.
This is the guy, who should be the first runner up when it comes to presidents in the States. No bullshit, and love for the working man, ´cos the working man aint dead!
It's great that he never denies his roots, but he is also very proud, if not slightly cocky about where he has managed to get. However so he should be, best modern symbol of hardcore punk there is.
Rollins is invaluable because he will always be an outsider. He has all the right influences and all the right incentives, and he illuminates everything with which he comes into contact. Everyone could benefit from listening to what he has to say.
man i thank my friends for showing me Henry Rollins and his band Black Flag. the interviews and his words are so great. i honestly download music and his music because it's hard to find that where i am from. but i put the decency to name it after the bands and artist just on how great their music is to me. really nice guy. has a wide view of things
I don't know if this is the greatest Henry Rollins interview. They're all great, really-approve THAT...ha ha...I really think what's great about Henry is how he has said that he's 'not a very spiritual guy'-the truth to me is, if there is a God, he she or it is smiling down on Henry more than almost anyone..his heart and his head is working together so well-and isn't that what 'God' would want from us?
I think the thing I love the most about Henry Rollins that really makes him one of my heroes is his complete honesty. He doesn't bullshit, he doesn't pretend to be something he's not. It seems like something so small, but it is really a rare trait for most humans to be that completely honest.
I trust him more than any president I've seen in my life time. That's strange cause my favorite Flag is before him.But that's not his fault Greg Ginn seemed the one to change the music.Henry is so smart, he may not be a scholar as he pointed out but damn he has so much knowledge and he questions everything before developing opinions and I love the part about not shutting up!
Having experienced a similar childhood and upbringing in a lower middle-class blue collar family, and having experienced alot of combat as a veteran, I can say with pride and certainty that I really could have used a friend like Henry growing up - and I would be glad to have him on my fire team any day. I honestly think he is truly a good person who passionately cares alot about many issues and all people in general. Although the man has little formal education, he has common sense in spades.
reading his books and watching everything i could on him i truly believe Henry Rollin has changed me!!! as a person!! not WHO i am but what i see what i believe in!!!
Open, creative, free thinking, progressive, authentic and totally unpretentious and sharp as a tack. I feel he lends me and many others a voice as an American. I hope he keeps talking.
this guy has always had a great working intellect based on what he learned from doing. and he sees things how they are/then should be, not "this is what you're taught and except it". another like this is KRS ONE. Both are great teachers
Possesssed666, absolutely not, there must be countless people who's lives have been affected or touched in some way by this amazing soul. I just had to take off my glasses to wipe off the wetness from the tears. Have you ever heard any artist or muso says they are fine with a kid downloading their stuff free because he understands they can't afford to buy it? Such a beautiful genuine soul ......
a working mind is right. He is a thinker. You don't need an education for that, just a sense of what is going on around you that hasn't been programmed into you.
He really is great. He helped me with a couple problems one time. I asked him these two very personal questions, not knowing him, and he responded and gave me honest answers.
The first time I saw Henry Rollins was in 1981. It was one of his first Black Flag shows. He was a maniacal skinhead/punk rock guy screaming into a microphone and jumping into the audience. It still blows me away, that he has become a humanitarian and a spokes person for the down trodden. If you had told me this in 1981...I would have thought you were out of your mind. Congratulations, Henry!
Henry Rollins inspires me to think for myself. That makes him my Dahli Llama. I probably spelled that wrong. Feel free to correct me with language that makes you feel strong.
good t see someone real taking the time to stad up and say what needs to be said, youdon't have to agree its just good to have some stimulation to think about life the universe and everything rather than whats on TV tonight go Henry hope you keep your humility.
Rollins is amazing. He's really smart for being just out of high school, it really says a lot about the average American that graduates from high school then just rides out the rest of their days just watching tv and letting everyone else take care of "business." I would hope that we would all strive to be at least a little bit more like Henry Rollins.
I'll tell ya what: Henry GETS people. He get us poor, unpopular people. And god do I love him for it. He's quirky, smart, funny, cute, and a VERY talented musician. He's a very good man.
"I'd rather be heard than paid." proves he's more about the work than the money.
Listening to this guy talk is at least half the reason I show up to work super tired. Fuck work though, I need this kind of perspective.
This guy is actually really well spoken. From what he mentioned about his early life - working in a fast food joint with no other skills; life's underdog - it's really inspiring to see how he's blossomed into an articulate and worldly human.

Am I the only one who feels a great deal of connection with this man?
I don't know I'd always call Rollins "easy going" he's a pretty intense dude. Extremely passionate about what he stands for and does. He certainly tells people what they need to hear and never simply what they want to hear, and he never sugar coats it. He is a genuine human being.

respect for Henry Rollins, as always-and forever

henry is a visionary
He's not afraid to speak his mind. More people need to be like this.
His take on South Africa is awesome... "damn, they want it more than me."
I must admit, like a lot of people, I have called Henry arrogant, pompous, loud mouthed, opinionated, self centered, etc..... but I also must admit, I usually agree with him 100% on what he's saying
he is one bad-ass dude
Met Henry at LAX in Los Angeles and he's a great guy and human being!
I can keep the audio from this and place it as a ringtone, or keep it as a track on my ipod. its that amazing, and that mesmerizing. Henry Rollins is a brilliant man.
Henry. Fucking. Rollins.
Period.
' it's time, it's time, time to align your body with your mind, it's hero time'' - shine - weight album - Rollins. This is what makes him so formidable !
I like Henry Rollins. I just like to hear him talk and be himself. He seems like a cool dude!
Henry Rollins is my life coach
"These guys want the dream more than I do."
He's seen the reality of it. He's seen all the nuances that break down the dream. Don't get romantic over this.
What a guy. Need more of him.
henry for president :)
Rollins is one of the only musicians that i completely and totally respect.
I'm beginning to think I misunderstood Henry Rollins.
Rollins is invaluable because he will always be an outsider. He has all the right influences and all the right incentives, and he illuminates everything with which he comes into contact. Everyone could benefit from listening to what he has to say.
One of the coolest dudes ever.
This guy just gave me some insight.
He is a brilliant man.
Very respectful too.
We need more people like Henry. Respect!
I would LOVE for Henry to write a motivational book. I love his no BS attitude of facing the things that are wrong sucking it up and driving on.
One of us! Thanks Henry for being a voice we don't have..
Always loved Henry but this video is amazing! Thanks for sharing!
man i thank my friends for showing me Henry Rollins and his band Black Flag. the interviews and his words are so great. i honestly download music and his music because it's hard to find that where i am from. but i put the decency to name it after the bands and artist just on how great their music is to me. really nice guy. has a wide view of things
Henry is a beautiful raw hard jagged edged soul. Truth. Rock hard and in your face. Always tells it like it really is. Thank you Henry.
Henry Rollins is such an amazing human being! He says it like it is and doesn't apologize!
I don't know if this is the greatest Henry Rollins interview. I am in love with this man.intriguing to say the least. Beautiful mind he has. I wish everyone could see life, war, and money threw his eyes.
I trust him more than any president I've seen in my life time.
