Well we rehearsed for the whole semester in order to get a single good performance out of it! This was recorded in the lobby of the FAC by the way. Sang it there the day before after the spring concert band performance and noticed the acoustics were amazing. Went back just for this.
During my first week of college, there was a marriage proposal after one rehearsal. They were both part of this fraternity, and everyone sang it. It still brings me back to that moment.
I proposed to my son's mother the night I crossed, she was already a member and now our son is a trumpet player in the pride of Broken Arrow :) KKPSI changed my life.
@TheDigitalFunk that's so sweet. I joined tbs about 3 years later/ago. I truly regret it. Partly because I wanted what kkpsi had (brotherhood and actual service to the community and band program), but also because my chapter had (maybe still has) so many problems.
newly initiated brother here from the Eta Sigma chapter! our 3rd degree was this past Sunday and it felt so amazing to finally be able to sing in the circle with my fellow brothers. it made me so proud to sing "I am a brother" for the first time, and I can't wait to see what the future has in store for me in this wonderful fraternity. AEA!!
I am having my 2nd and 3rd degree in March!! I’m in the Alpha Psi chapter, Delta Omega class!! I’m loving Kappa Kappa Psi already! Cannot wait for what the future of this fraternity holds for me :)
Mental health been kicking me lately. All my social medias were somehow disabled, so I haven't been able to keep in touch with most of my brothers and sisters. Been missing them all lately, and my time as a brother of the Gamma Kappa chapter. This hymn just feels like... home
I waited until my fourth of 5-6 years at my university to join. While part of me wishes I had joined sooner, my brothers in the Beta Delta class are some of my dearest friends in the world, and I wouldn't trade them for anything. I haven't even been active for a month, and this hymn already means the world to me. AEA from Eta Upsilon!
I look forward to singing this more. My membership class had 3rd degree just before things got shut down this year. Lucky timing. I look forward to when we can sing this again regularly. AEA from the Gamma Omicron Chapter
Theres no amount of love I can Express for this great fraternity... even being a member of other "social organizations". Over the years, since Spr. 2005 Epsilon Rho chap...., but that...I have not seen any fraternity rather social nor honorary, quite like Kappa Kappa PSI...
Alice 359 Nu Omicron chapter here, just visited you guys and was lucky enough to witness their senior ceremony. Don't know if you're still active but they are in good hands. AEA
I believe you're taking about Kelsey, who I know well. We served on district council together back in 06-07. She was actually originally from the Eta Omicron chapter at JMU. Actually basically everyone who is recorded singing this version knew her as she came up to UMass a few times as well.
Yes, actually! Here's the history of it: 'The Fraternity Hymn was written by brother Scott Jeffrey Heckstall Jr. when he was a prospective member of the Eta Gamma chapter in 1977. Heckstall had wanted to be a charter member, but was not chosen. Heckstall was encouraged to rush, and he recalled that as part of his rush process, a couple of brothers took him to a piano and told him, "We know that you play [piano] in church. We need a fraternity hymn. We'll give you three hours, and you sit over there and come up with a hymn. We'll come back in three hours, and we expect a hymn." Heckstall recalled the hymn Someday (Beams of Heaven As I Go) by Charles Albert Tindley and changed a few words-for example, "Beams of Heaven as I go through this wilderness below" became "K K Psi, as we go through this wilderness here below." The brothers of Eta Gamma were satisfied with Heckstall's hymn. Years later, the hymn was presented to the brotherhood assembled at the 1995 National Convention and accepted as the national fraternity hymn.' The Eta Gamma chapter is located at Morgan State University.
So proud of my brothers at UMass. This is the best version of the Hymn that I have heard. AEA Epsilon Nu...Yeah Boy! Class of Fall 1991
