It’s great when you put forth the name of an artist that passed shortly before my lifetime that I have never encountered. Your respectful treatments have earned you the following of those of us who were previously unaware of the Artist. Having said that, I’m not so grateful for you sending me down the Formby rabbit hole. Keep up the good work.

One of his songs, " Leaning On The Lamppost " was a hit for Herman's Hermits. Found out a little more about him because of George Harrison's being a fan. Thank you for sharing this information.

I’m in the George Formby appreciation society here in the UK. He was in several films in the 1940’s. They are of their time but some very funny moments. No Limits is one of my favourites as it set in the TT motorcycle races at the Isle of Man.

    He was brilliant!
I live in Scotland and quite often play George Formby recordings in my car for my 97 year old mum when I take her out for a spin. She still gets a laugh at his bawdy lyrics.
Another of her favourites from that time period was Al Bowley. Great British vocalist who sadly died in an air raid on London in 1941 during those awful nightly bombing raids by the luftwaffe.
You should check him out. He's also on youtube. 😎

Great uncle George was a wonderful man. Always laughing and singing. Told a few saucy jokes as well!

Wonderful that, though he wasn't able to serve in the military, he served in his own way. God bless you Mr. Formby, rest in peace ❤

George Formby I loved watching his films on BBC2 when I was young.
It was Formby, or Charlie Chan, or Laurel & Hardy.
I wouldn’t think many Yanks would know about George Formby.

Growing up in the early 60’s in Melbourne Australia, we would always be watching George Formby movies. I still watch every now and again. We also watched Norman Wisdom movies, we had a great deal of English shows back in those days

As a WWII Buff, I became familiar with him through his Wartime ditties! Have a couple on compilation CDs. I wonder... at his Wife's memorial service, did he perform a rendition of 'We're Gonna Roll Out The Beryl'! (Too soon!?!)

I've heard the name before, but I'm familiar with his work. I do plan on becoming so. I'm not surprised that he would have at least one Beatle as a fan. John Lennon was a fan of Lonnie Donegan.
