The A10 scene should have been included. A massive part of the frustration and impotence they felt was due to the fact that the vast bulk of the fighting was done by the time tanks rolled up, let alone infantry.
His assessment isn't totally or completely accurate, though. Yes, airpower and artillery decimated the Iraqis, but it is ground forces that take and hold territory. Granted, the grand scheme is not the same as an individual soldier's experience. The first war in Iraqi happened way too quick for a majority to have experienced combat. Iraq II and Afghanistan were different stories. Even now in Ukraine, it's being decided not by air but by ground pounders and artillery. There's too many anti-air capabilities and not enough advanced air power (with support) to achieve air dominance. The Russians have a huge artillery advantage and it is what helped them gain all that ground but they don't have enough experienced troops to take advantage of it. Ukraine has the opposite problem. It has plenty of soldiers but not enough artillery to support them.

Unironically, this is actually why America is so deadly on the battlefield. While most grunts and lower enlisted say they aren't told anything, the reality is the average American grunt has a better mental picture of the battle than most commanders of other armies. The American military takes great pride in making every soldier sailor marine and airman capable of dropping right into a slot and knowing exactly what needs to be done. America takes planning to the extreme, if you can think of a contingency, there is a dusty file in the pentagon that was written 30 years ago on how to counter it and there's an entire unit drilled to memorize that one file and master that technique. And that one unit will go around and teach the rest of the army the basics of how to handle that situation by translating the information into useful point by point actions.
@@Dan-440 I doubt it. America will not fight a set piece battle again. That much can be counted on. Between air and missile strikes, no US infantryman will find hostile armies of equal stature to face ever again.
The plan was too CGI the helicopter skin as it is a Hollywood rental copter and change it to authentic army colors, But to save Money the Scene was Deleted.
Its hard to see why exactly this was cut. It's a great way to show the viewer why troops were made redundant but I guess they wanted to make it seem like they could see combat and maybe showing the A10's flying overhead would spoil the ending for the viewer. That's my best guess as to why they cut it and if that's the reason its a stupid reason since anyone who watched Jarhead probably already knew enough about the first Gulf War to know these guys wouldn't see combat
@@MoctezumasRevenge1 LMAO yeah definitely lybian children needed some freedom and luckily the U.S dropped freedom on them (although it looked like explosives)
I'll bet the only reason this scene was cut was because the Pentagon didn't want anyone getting this idea and actually doing in Iraq or Afghanistan since both wars were going when this film came out.
I liked the scene but the parade formation of A-10's kinda killed it for me, Maybe showing a more realistic group like a four plane flight going over head and then seeing explosions in the distance to show the air wars impact on the Iraqis. Would match up better for later in the film when the smaller flight of A-10s patrolling there killbox are shown doing a friendly fire strafing run.
i dunno about that. our tanks crushed theirs pretty fast. but it def helped. sadams army made some bad decisions on where they were moving and got squashed

2:32. I’ve never read the book is this taken from there? Is this Swofford’s actually account? Because it’s not even close to factually accurate to the reality of Desert Storm, the ground campaign wasn’t even fair so I don’t understand how anyone would think they where “fucked”.
because the predicted outcome of desert storm was suppose to be alot tougher then it was. sadam underestimated us and we overestimated them. and i think we used a pincer attack ( i may be wrong) i watched a documentary that explained how we crushed their tanks alot quicker then expected. but that was years ago so my memory is vivid. i think thats why the scene was deleted, seeing the airplanes at the end of the scene shows that the war will be over quicker then they think. i think thats why they deleted the airplanes it takes away from the suspense of action. even in the movie as they are going into the war the one guy kind of suggests snipers are useless in desert storm compared to vietnam. thats what i got from it anyways. i could be wrong.
@@MelodicsRareMusicVid We basically smashed everything of importance with a giant air hammer, then the tanks blitz with a spearhead to mop up what was left and turned towards the coast to attempt to encircle a large chunk of Sadam's army.
I surr hope you're right. I think we are soon to be tested.
@@Dan-440 I doubt it. America will not fight a set piece battle again. That much can be counted on. Between air and missile strikes, no US infantryman will find hostile armies of equal stature to face ever again.
I love smooshy face
"What the f' cks that"
That's the beginning and the end of that short conflict.
What TF is that?!
That’s the sound of a whole lotta Iraqi’s and their equipment about to be deleted off the face of the earth.
Why did they cut this out ? . Just brilliant.
Swofford was working through some issues.
“With Allstate you…..”
Everyone has a plan until the a10s show
Wart hogs, oh shite, someone is going to get mowed down
That war was over before it even started
Awesome scene. So many good ones got cut in this movie.
I was just gunna say dont you know about the Airforce while he was stating that they are fucked
There were a whole bunch of planes coming to drop Freedom on Iraq, that would have been incredible to see.
eh, they were freeing kuwait.
"drop freedom" lol, more like "securing oil"
@@facuuu2809 Freedom we drop is in proportion to your proven oil reserves.
@@MoctezumasRevenge1 LMAO yeah definitely lybian children needed some freedom and luckily the U.S dropped freedom on them (although it looked like explosives)
Remember one shot can be more then one kill
Swafford was too damn whiny.
Such a good scene
Are those A-10’s? Do they normally move in huge formations like that?
sure, when they are about to flatten part of a city and an enemy division or two.
Anddd the Air Force getting the job done
Marine corp birthday: JANUARY 1st 1776
ah yes, the USAF coming in to save the day yet again lol
K ngl that fleet of A-10s at the end was pretty fucking arousing.
This was necessary and they never put it in
This scene shoulda been in the movie...gives you more context on their hatred for the officer that fucked them at the end
theres an aegyptian monster, forgot the name of it... looks like those aerial vehicles... when it flies in, the sun shines near earths surface...
Pretty cool scene I reckon.
20,000mm scope
1:23 i think they didn't like that guy from the start.
I'll bet the only reason this scene was cut was because the Pentagon didn't want anyone getting this idea and actually doing in Iraq or Afghanistan since both wars were going when this film came out.
omg why they deleted this! those A-10 scene awesome
of course its not accurate. they would not fly "finger tip" in combat
Well so much for the Iraqi armored divisions...
The A-10s
The number of the enemy does not matter to a sniper
I liked the scene but the parade formation of A-10's kinda killed it for me, Maybe showing a more realistic group like a four plane flight going over head and then seeing explosions in the distance to show the air wars impact on the Iraqis. Would match up better for later in the film when the smaller flight of A-10s patrolling there killbox are shown doing a friendly fire strafing run.
that was how it was when it first started .......
That’s literally what the start of the Gulf War was like. You want the movie to be less accurate??
Proverbs 3:13
King James Version
13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
Should have the this scene in the movie
Pretty fk'n spectacular.
if America didn't have air superiority in this war we'd been fucked
i dunno about that. our tanks crushed theirs pretty fast. but it def helped. sadams army made some bad decisions on where they were moving and got squashed
Scene was cut because theater speakers don't speak BRRTTTTT.
Awesome
Fire fire fire
Stop fuckin around
this is good stuff, cut something else out and put it back in
The A-10s where there to take out tanks, other military targets, and Iraq air defense to soften the advance in to Iraq days before. And where tasked with hunting and destroying scud missle in western Iraq.
Was that the allstate guy?
yes lol
Wish they kept this
were fckd
Sadam's Amy attempted a massive retreat to avoid encirclement, but that just made them fish in a barrel for the air force to slag on the highway of death.
The Operations Room does a fantastically detailed series of the play-by-play of the war, which lasted 5 days: ruclips.net/video/zxRgfBXn6Mg/видео.html

I an assure it was ture I was in a Combat replace company waiting for mass casualties ................ perhaps you missed the part of 9 Iraq divisions to 3 of ours ....... though after 40 days and 40 nights of fucking them up there was a shit ton less and they had lost tue will to fight
i actually think its good they cut it out, this movie is better as a realistic movie abut marines then some rambo action movie
c'mon guys, letting the barrel of a gun go over the limit of a wall in 1:13 it's fuckin amateur....
why the hell did they cut this? this is awsome
Why wasn't this scene in the movie?
This scene is fucking awesome, why the hell they deleted it
