- We just finished up hosting our third scraping class at my shop with Richard King as the instructor. This video is a summary of what all was done, a quick talk with the students, and a look at their projects.

Thanks Keith and Richard. I always enjoy these scraping classes. Being from Texas and so far away from industry central I have always wondered how scraping was actually done when I would look at the machines in our shop. And just for the record I love the little Monarch in the background when you and Richard King are sitting and talking. Thanks to you and Richard and all the participants that drove in for the class. Great Vid Keith! Quite the background Mr. King has and I'm glad he is using it to teach others. Best thing About machining is that you are always learning new things.

Sad to hear he's preparing to retire. It would be something if you could continue the classes after he retires.
Vincent's compound cross slide project is really impressive work. I am amazed that he got all that done in the course time. He must have been hard at it, no socializing! Was that done by hand or with the biax?

No, Keith recorded this video a while ago -- just before the High Middle Ages. Things move a little slower down South.

Keith, I looked on Richard's website and could not see a schedule for his classes. In addition, it would be nice to know the cost of the classes.

When did that Monarch lathe sneak into the shop? I warned you before that having a nice big shop attracts old equipment like a giant magnet.
He forgot to lock the door to the shop, and it snuck in.
Been so many new ones showing up ,I missed that one.
BY my count , he now has 3 Monarchs!

hi brian, you have a masters in mechanical engineering? Did you not hear about scraping on your degree course?? I am astounded! Are you(you tube) guys at the kidding?? We are all not amatuers.
try doin surface table 4 feet x 4 feet , use a pot of blue ,we used to do this in uk ,but no need today, we don t do metal stuff anymore, just send all machines as scrap to far east , guys who work them , part time workers in warehouse sellin imported stuff
Despite this a bunch of us are doing the course in the UK in December.
ERF, FODEN., LEYLAND, all gone , now guys put DAF bits together for PACCAR, we showed you first

It's not bragging when you teach what you know best. I know too many people who do brag about how much the know, and couldn't actually perform the task themselves.
It's also too bad that these skills, like Richard King does, are being done away with by computers. I learned electronics from my Grandfather, and now most everything is built by machines, and when they don't work any more, it just gets tossed out.
I worked for a telephone company, and designed and built some test equipment, but nobody wanted to have to push buttons to do the testing, they all wanted the computer to do all the work for them.
That's why I watch these different videos from all you guys, which gets back to putting sweat and knowledge into their projects.
(maybe even a little kicking things once in a while)
There used to be quite a few machine shops around where I live, and now they are all gone. No one to show you how to WORK any more. You can read books, but like you all said, you need that one on one.
Anyway,
Keep up the good work, and keep the videos coming.

if Richard make classes in China, better stuff will come from them ,but i am afraid that no Chinese can afford to pay 1650 bucks for 5 days of learning,they do not earn so much money in 20 years LOL
