  • Finally back in the woods after 2 months of lock-down. Now we can get on with some of the repairs that need to be done after leaving the jumps untouched for the last few months. We had only just finished building a new line this winter and it never really had the chance to settle in and we left it in a bit of a state. In this video I repair the lip and the landing before it in the line, but rather than just show timelapse shots of the work I have also included some normal speed close up shots to show exactly what's happening. There are quite a few 'How To Build a Dirt Jump' videos on youtube- and this is a more chilled version without any talking - just shots to show the process.
    The other feature of this build is the new addition of a jump that will go over the berm. This jump will be offset so you have to jump across to a landing behind the berm- at the moment it looks like it is aimed at some trees but all will make sense in the next episode! As soon as possible we'll send our resident guinea pig rider, Will Smith, over it to test how it works.
    We're hoping it won't be long till we're able to get back on our bikes, but for now I'm just happy to be back in the woods.
    Hope you enjoy the video- more to come every Friday. Take it easy.

    I really miss being in the woods with my boys doing this. We use to get these rolls of burlap and cut pieces and bury them in the jumps in layers. It would hold them really good for a while but still had to shape them. Your jumps are a work of art tho. On a whole different level. I appreciate the work you guys put in and the creativity of the lines. It really is something amazing to see. Its nice to know the culture is alive and well like never before. Rip it up gents✌

    If u make 6" wide trenchs on the sdes of ur approach a couple of deep at the bottom of ur approach and fill them with gravel you won't have Lake Stepup after every rain storm.

    • @justkeepdigging1956

    It looks like the dirt contains a lot of sand - How long time do the jumps keep their shape?

    • @justkeepdigging1956
      @justkeepdigging1956  4 года назад +1

      It does have more sand than we would like. How long they hold their shape depends on the weather and if they're covered or not. We find carpet does a good job of holding moisture in the ground. Once a jump has gone solid it lasts months, maybe a year before needing to be worked on. Some of the older jumps at ours haven't been touched for a few years now and still run fine.

      3hrs for first jump. About 7 hours total to build the kicker (with the dirt being delivered!) and 2-3 hours to fix the landing. I tend to count blisters rather than hours now!! Haha.
