Great looking tank! I keep a Tanganyika tank as well. Do you do anything to your KH, GH and PH for this tank? or do you just let them acclimate to your tap water parameters? I keep mine GH and KH at around 200 PPM and PH around 8.5 - 9
The scape looks really good. Lots of interesting things going on in there to see. I look forward to watching the fish and plants grow out, and to see what happens with everything. You always have really good content.
Love the video. The only thing I would alter, only slightly, is I’d hide away the sponge filters behind a slab of rock. I think it’s absolutely fabulous & the colours in the shellies are gorgeous.
Hi Joanna and Jason, you did a wonderful job scaping that tank. I think it’s awesome that the two of you are sharing the hobby together, as well as the boys. The fish also look great and so does the lighting. I love Tanganyikan fish and have quite a bit of fry as we speak. Thanks very much for sharing and keep up the great work 👍. I hope you are having a fun baseball season as well.
Looking forward to watching your 125 Tanganyika tank evolve. My 125 gallon Lake Tanganyika biotope tank and my Shell dweller tanks are the tanks that I love just sitting and watching the fish action.
First off can we just take some time to just appreciate how clear this man’s water is kept looking at it and didn’t even realize that the sponge filters were on because it didn’t even look like water was in it great job guys
Loving the tank. It was funny I was watching the video and just before you mentioned the Leptosama, I was sitting here going that tank needs some Leptosama in it LOL!! Are you able to get your hands on a Tanganyika Banded Eel. That would be an intersting oddball for the tank and the 125 could even handle the bigger species.
I wouldn’t put anything smaller than a blue whale with gold ocellatus... Looking forward to seeing this tank evolve. Great job Joanna! Like the goofiness at the end.
I love ypur vifeos! Just recently subscribed and i watched your mbuna videos because i was looking for info. Just ordered from daves rare fish and overnighted them to get here tuesday. Keep up the good work!
First off, the tank looks awesome! Makes me want to do a redo on 55 African Cichlid tank. I just need to get a better light for my 55 gallon. Any suggestions for lighting would be greatly appreciated! Keep up the awesome work!!
I really like the Fluval 3.0's I just added to both 125's. If you are looking for a less expense light, I also like the Finnex Stingrays (almost all my tanks have them). Aquarium Co-Op usually has both in stock at very competitive prices.
Really cool setup! love the fish that you don't see a whole lot of. What are you running as far as filtration just the sponges? I'm wanting to set up a 125-150 in my master bedroom and want the filtration to be right? Anyways love the tank!
Thank you! I have the two sponges and a Marineland 350. I've used that combo (often with three sponges) only other three 125s without issue. If you are looking for a better look you could always due two HOB filters without the sponge filters. Seachem has some nice HOB filters too!
I had Calvus many many years ago. I seem to recall that you need to put in some dither fish in the upper column and that signals to the Calvus that it is safe to come out.
Yes, all the plants are live. I have been using flagstone in a lot of our cichlid tanks. I get it from a landscaping place for around like 20 cents per pound.
All mine came from either Petsmart or my LFS store when they had them on sale. Getting them custom made and shipped can cost a lot of money! Thanks for watching!
Another great video mate man i really like this tank i think meleagris is perfect for gold but Im really interested in seeing how ink fin do like you said about fry She did another great scape i think its perfect for the ink fins
Great question. I actually don't need one because my water is naturally at 8.2 pH and had a decently high KH. I also have all the flagstone in there, which doesn't really adjust our water parameters too much, but certainly might for people who have soft water and a low pH. I have aragonite in one of my tanks and really like it!
from the species profile videos, you always mentioned that tanganyika cichlids are more sensitive to water temperature change. if i have a 75g tank at 78f, and i do a weekly 25% water change from the tap, if the top water temperature is around 68-70f, would that be too much of a temp fluctuation? i have a water softener install in the house, and the only tap i can use is in the backyard with no temperature control.
We used Caribsea. I have gotten away from pool filter sand because it made it harder to keep the tanks looking their best - a little harder to maintain.
nice. i have a breeding pair of congo black calvis, wild caught...they look a lot like yours.....slow breeders and small clutches ...just hatched 5 more...takes them 5 years to mature..real slow growers but they are amazing

I always worry about the excessive weight caused by all the hardscape plus the substrate and other additions in the tanks. Mostly the stone hardscape though. Personally, I would prefer to use more stones but Murphy's Law is my constant companion and I genuinely worry about a major rupture of the tank bottom. Five gallons of water doesn't seem like much until you pour it all over your floor. Then suddenly those small nano tanks seem like a _big_ liability. Now imagine that scenario magnified ten-fold. Ten, twenty, forty, fifty-five, one hundred twenty five and so on. As the tank sizes get larger, so too does the magnitude of this potential catastrophe. Does it happen very often? _No._ But then again, it has/does happen to somebody at some point and that person is usually me. Nonetheless, this doesn't deter me from using hardscape in my tanks. I just use it sparingly and meticulously place them evenly around the tanks for optimal weight distribution. Always look forward to some new content and conversation here on Prime Time Aquatics. Keep up the good work my friends. EDITED for double spacing and missing punctuation.
I hear you! I think the total weight of the rocks was probably less than 200lbs? We also made it a point to space it out throughout the tank. It always makes me nervous when you see massive piles of large rocks in a tank. : -)

Nice video love he tank I want to ask where did you get the white sand from I've been looking and can't find any pure white sand?
The sand I use it Caribsea Naturals - Good stuff!
Great tank! Can you do a video discussing rocks for aquariums? Thanks!
I will add it to the list!
Could we use sea sand for shell dwellers? Thanks in advance
POssibly, but there's always a risk of introducing parasites unless it is thoroughly dried.

Are you using a buffer? I added CaribSea aragonite substrate and it makes all the difference. Nice tank.

Gold Ocellatus👍🏾
Those ink fin are wonderful never seen them before! How big do they get?
Thank you! They aren't going to get a whole lot bigger. They grow VERY slow!

Ya, that could stress them out. I know a lot of people who use a softener bypass for filling tanks.
You should add some Synodontis! One of my favorite Tanganyikan fish.
I like them! We have a bunch scattered throughout the fish room. Maybe I'll throw a few in that tank too. : -)
tanganyika my fish №1
Btw, how often do you clean the sponges on the filters?
I usually clean them once per week. Check this out. ruclips.net/video/jp49hdba0eY/видео.html
Too funny at the end
What type of sand did you use, play, pool filter, etc.?
We used Caribsea. I have gotten away from pool filter sand because it made it harder to keep the tanks looking their best - a little harder to maintain.
And the bottom glass do not crack with all these heavy rocks?
We haven't had that issue, but we are very careful as to how we distribute the rock weight.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics try adding egg crates or undegravel filters to buffer the bottom from the rocks

Looks good. Add some bright yellow Leleupi and maybe add a few inches of height to the rocks in a couple of areas for vertical balance.
Both good suggestions. Always cautious with the weight of the rocks though. : -)

I have to admit, the sponge filters are ruining the look. Why use sponge filters in a large set up?
Agreed. Sponge filters are a necessity with 80 tanks (not enough available power).
