- Payday 3's newest update made changes to the progression and leveling system. Is it finally in a good place? Can heisters play the game without feeling like they're being punished for doing the things they want to? Here's my in-depth analysis on the changes.

Are these changes enough to bring you back to the game?
Not yet. But they're getting there.
i ain’t left i’m just waiting for more content but i think we’re on our way back up just wish they would learn if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
Nearly(I only need server browser now to be satishfied) I might get base game some time soon but if devs want to see me buy DLC then they have to add offline mode.
Yes. See I play payday to just turn my brain off and shoot some stuff payday a comfort game and at least I’m making some progress now by just completing an heist.
Yeah, honestly. It's given me a bigger incentive to play.
There is literally a bug in Touch the Sky where if you bring a zipline bag, the game will not reward you the "all loot" xp unless you grab all but one bag. It's probably because the game is coded so that it checks if you looted the exact number of bag specified in the code. Basically, the zipline bag itself counts as loot, so if you looted every bag in the map AND used the zipline, the game will say "Um you extracted 14 bags. You're supposed to loot 13 bags, so no bonus for you." This same bug is present in Under the Surphaze if you carry the scanner with you on the extraction point
That's why coding lessons should teach the use of >= in place of == to minimise the possibility of such bugs.
Is this still a bug or have they fixed this? I
it'd' have been better if they distanced the progression from challenges, the amount you get per heist is pitiful.
agreed
Totally agree. It's a start, but it needs to give a little more. I was hoping it'd be simply scaled off money gain, so the more money you earn in a heist, the more exp you get. Having this plus the 'all bags' and 'stealth' bonuses, I think the baseline progression would be much more intuitive
Add a zero to the end of each one and we might get somewhere
Unless you're skill gapped to playing on Hard then getting to unlock all content doesn't take that long, especially with the new system.
No reason to get a bunch of XP for no reason and to unlock nothing in the long run with a bloated XP reward system.
agreed, sometimes after a heist that took like half a hour, I got like 15xp cuz I just completed the mission and no challenged. this system is ridiculous!
As someone who got the immortal python in payday 2 I will say one of the biggest reasons I actually got the drive and motivation to actually push for 1000 achievements was because it was out of the way and something for me to do (after already having hundreds of hours in the game) to challenge myself and get the skin (even if it’s not good) just to show that I did it.
And when I got frustrated at an annoying challenge, I could just take a break and go back and play the game normally and I’m still gaming infamy levels.
If payday 2 pushed me to do these challenges before I had the chance to enjoy the game in the way I wanted to run it, I would have never gotten into wanting to do 1000 achievements.
This is why as long as the xp gains are mostly challenge based I can’t bring myself to touch the game with a stick from across the room. I want to just mess around and do what I want, learn the game mechanics and meta at my own pace, develop some full builds that I like… THEN start working on some challenge objectives.
the immortal python looks disgusting but the mask is sick
"It's a good first step but it's not done yet" is this game in a nutshell. I've also noticed that the xp rewards can be bugged on at least one heist, Touch the Sky hasn't given me the all bags bonus on multiple occasions even though both the in-game objectives list and the bag tally on the score screen acknowledge all bags secured.
This patch was a step in the right direction, i would like to believe more fixes , tweaking and balance will be added not only as a regular patch but añsp delivered THE SAME MOMENT new dlc get released. If thats the system they will implement we are getting closer to another patch that hopefully helps the game
What would actually bring me back to the game more often is perhaps converting challenges into an addition of unique dailies and weeklies that I can run through until new content arrives and renovations are made. Something like what Phasmophobia does would definitely improve replayability of the existing maps.
or you know, what Payday 2 did lol
And offline
@@gcullen576this is literally the only thing and they still havent done it
@@randomsomeguy156 You can play tutorials offline, the function is in the game, they just refuse to make it possible for the rest of the heists. I hope the modders make Offline possible bc without an actual Offline mode this game is dead
I just hate how they had two games to go off of for examples, but they actively decide not to look at the previous two games. You would think as a developer that you would really want to see what was great with mechanics/systems and UI and put that into the new game you are working on.
I also wished it was per bag for the XP instead of all bags, I always forget that 1 bag or loot.
Right? Like what were they thinking 😂
Everyone should know that if your nebula account runs into a bug all your data is lost. Bug support will likely never get back to you. The devs are cowards and won't even mention this problem.
Some people have been unable to play since day 1 because of this and it can happen to you at any point. So never sign out your nebula or mess with it unless necessary. I was close to lvl100 but after losing my data I will never play this waste of time again. I'll continue playing good games that respect the players time and wants to make a great game. They didn't care about either
honestly agree, even with the tiny exp bonus, they seem to be ignoring all the bugs and focusing on content, also not surprising given they seems to be more focused on money then respecting the play base, look at how bad the launch was
it's an improvement and hoping that it continues in this trend. I personally go from PD 2 to PD 3 depending how I would like to play or if the servers are working but I like to PD 3 a lot due I suck at PD 2 and trying to improve but with little progress, but I'm glad they are fixing the game.
P.S Love the Video thanks for keeping us updated I like to hear others view on the game! :]
i want them to make the lobby system how it was in payday 2 its tiring having to beat the heist disband the party choose the next heist and reinvite your friends
I agree with you about everything ,tnx for the great video.
Thanks gen for having the realest videos on payday
You are right on some points and to this day I miss offline mode. But you have to consider one thing. Gold & Sharke took me 19 Minutes sole with double bag carry on stealth. When I do it in a full Lobby, the quickest we achieved was 7:10. This heist gives u 210 IP on overkill stealth. If I were to repeat this thing over and over again I would still get a Level per Hour on Lvl 100. 7:10 btw without brute forcing the code. Therefore I believe u get enough IP. Lvl 150 isn't meant to be achievable easily. This change was needed and they did a good job. The Challenge Menu though is a whole different thing. They can def work on that.
8:00 PM on a Sunday night and its impossible to get a full lobby of randoms for the new cook off heist lol.
If they want us to do challenges they should let us look at the challenge menu and let us know when we do complete a challenge during the heist. like they want to force and implement a change in progression without doing the fucking work to make it enjoyable or accessible.
I think that the bags should all count for exp but getting all of the bags would just be extra bonus exp after completing the heist. It would still feel like you’re making progress while still pushing you to get all the bags. I think not only has the progression bonus been pretty good I feel like challenges being more clear from the menu has also motivated me to play payday 3 more. Hope Starbreeze further refines the challenges through the game’s life span, I see potential in this system.
My recommended challenge has been overkill gold and sharke loud and its been completed since before the update. Just have not made a 2nd attempt yet and so it is glitched as not completed at 1/1 done.
yeah, even in my video it shows the glitched challenge. they sure put a lot of effort into these challenges!
@GeneralMcBadass i hope its just early glitches and they will be fixed with a few updates.
It is upsetting to see when you could have leveled off that quest but hilarious when you have multiple that do it at the same time.
But its not hurting my experience of the game so far just annoying to see it as the recommended quest.
I'm okay with challenges being the main source of XP, or maybe they should switch it to a 50/50 system. But I do agree that the bag bonus should be scaled to the number of bags stolen and that completing each condition just doesn't quite give enough points. I think they should give like 20 to 30 percent more XP than they currently do.
What about from the perspective of those who are levels < the exact level to get all skill points? Is it good for them? Because what I see here its from a perspective of a level 100+ so it definitely isnt getting much xp per heist. But what about those lower than lets say level 30?
I really wish they just implemented the progression of pd2, which was slow'ish, and add challenges to make it faster for the vets
Hello,
i installed few mods but since i did that my game is lagging so hard and i don't really know how to fix that. Any solutions? Few exemples can also be very small freezes and music glitching out.
gold shark with a good group takes 7 min in average .. i dont know where you get the 30min from for a new player mybe but those that are intrested in farming xp also know how to do those missions really fast so the extra xp is more then enough and i hope they dont increase it,, btw seeing the payday 1 gameplay in the background makes me wanna play it again so sick this game everyone is talking about payday 2 and hating payday 3 but no one really talks about the first game its amazing to see how great bulldozer looked in the heist
The 2nd update is mostly quite good. 👍🏻🤩 The all or nothing on loot bags XP was the weakest/worst 😕👎🏻part of this update. I'm level 103 now and my stealth game sux @$$... But I still enjoy playing. Hopefully the devs fix the current loot bag XP reward, as all or nothing is super sad... 😭
I was doing the cook off 19bags and it kept crashing
OVK really knows the meaning of “it’s the least we can do”
This is the first time I’ve truly had fun in Payday 3. And I’m actually *excited* for Syntax Error, which this game has not made me feel in a very long time.
I have been grinding challanges for a bit and im honestly worried im gonns get burnt out and quit for a bit. Im only level 62 and honestly for me its easier to farm imfamy in payday 2 than to reach 1 more level in payday 3 which is kinda ridiculous given the restricted weapons locked behind high hard to achive levels
What’s the song playing in the nightclub from 4:07?
it ok with heist ending exp but give nothing xp is frustation it like doing with no reward
Honestly challenges should never have been the primary way to level up. The primary amount of XP should always been based on your general performance, with you getting a small bonus for completing challenges. So I agree with 12:24 completely
I remember a youtuber said something that sums up the issue super well: "How is it that you need to use your weapons to gain levels for your account and you need to play the game (complete heists) to gain levels for your weapons?!? It should be the other way around!"
The challenges personally never bothered me (unless they were bugged obviously) because I'm waaaaay more interested in a loud/stealth filter to just play the game with randoms rather than farming levels (even if I did farm all the weapon kills mostly on Gold & Sharke OVK & Dirty Ice OVK because it's more fun than bathroom imo)
"end my suffering" hahaha peak mcbadass humor there lads
I won't play till they remove the requirement that I have to make a useless account to play their game even though I'm on console.
They won’t removed it. They been pushing it since payday 2 on PC and with the introduction of crossplay and crossave is more of a reason to keep it.
I don’t like it, I certainly don’t use crossplay, but it’s there
Has anyone else been having this problem with Payday 3 on PS5 crashing during Cook Off?
The more constructive and measured approach taken with this video is greatly appreciated. The constant bitter negativity surrounding this game has put me off it far more than anything the game itself has actually done, so I hope the devs continue on their upward trend polishing this rough diamond until it's the best version of itself.
My recommendation: Complete "I'm the one who knocks" challenge, its worth it.
the new system does feel like a compromise, but if this is what they really want, then the least they could do is stage the loot bag exp into quarters. 25% of bags earns you 25% of exp, etc. etc. And they could also just... bump the exp gains up just a bit.
Atleast now most players wont just hit like level 50-60 and stop leveling entirely.
so if you have to get all the bags, do the bags u dont know are on the map count? like the ones in safes?
the game has a "secure all loot" optional objective, so you gotta keep finding loot until that ticks itself off
No, loose cash and jewelry doesn't count
stealth bonuses should be way higher + there should be xp for each bag
I think the "All Bags" bonus is a bit shit. I prefer the old system where the reward increases the more bags you get. So it's a percentile thing instead of an "all or nothing"
Halo infinite did the same thing at launch where xp was purely gained from challenges, and it was completely shit on for it. IDK why any game would go for it after that.
It should be raised by about 50% or doubled
I don't believe they'll change the challenge system tbh, they want to sell those weapon packs so you can level up faster.
PD3 has been a huge disappointment for me.
oh my god, I never thought of it that way
i buy gamepass only for PD3 but got disappointed so hard, wont be back until the game popular again.
but at least i can play other games thanks to PD3.
it's not perfect, it's not even what we all want. but it makes it so it's a little more playable. I'm optimistic that with time they will give us what we actually want. (actually fixed progression, no matchmaking for solo heists, more dynamic skills.) but right now we should hope for the bare minimum I guess until the game is in a truly playable state and we just have to worry about more content. I've said this in other comments but we shouldn't expect the massive content of PD2 however with PD2s long run they should have taken what worked from that game and put it in 3, instead they reinvented the wheel and as a result, the game is less fun and less playable.

I disagree about balancing heist exp would be hard.
It is a life service they are trying to sell so, they could just keep an eye out, and balance the heist on numbers such as: fastest completion times, avarage completion times, times restarted and I think they could easily find a great balance for heist completion/stealth completion/all bags numbers (they could have done the same in PD 2 tbh).
Balancing a game based on data analysis and not making it suck is a difficult thing to do
@@jbisthedj I still disagree.
They could change the values for complete heist/stealth/full bags on their expected time to complete so they are roughly the same.
and if people learn which one is the "best" and start learning it and doing it much more efficiently (and thus changing its expected time to complete)" just nerf it and buff the least played map.
they could even do a much more aggressive version of the positive and negative buff version from payday 2 with cutting the exp in half if someone has played the same heist five times in a row or something.
Promoting variety while still rewarding "just playing the game".
I understand that balance is hard, but this is not a complex mechanic with a ton of variables. It is just maps that players complete. Better players complet them faster and more consistently but at the end of the day why would that be bad? Shouldn't they be rewarded for playing well?
And they could do this every week because as far as my knowledge goes, they could just put exp values on server side and then change them on the fly.
Not sure if I have some huge oversight on something or just "balance hard"
the leveling system isn’t too bad if you’re always completing heists on overkill
uhhhhh i hate challenges
I hate them for leveling up, that's for sure
I love the game alot. I prefer this update for sure, but dont mind it being challenge heavy, but i think the challenges are so dull and uninteresting with no real variety. Weekly or daily challenges could be interesting and more situational challenges, and for the love of god earning achievements should award a challenge too for ip. Some of these achievements are pretty tough.
It is factually a 100% better and they did make me return after refusing to deal with the challenges.
However, there is still room for improvement.
The rewards still feel stingy, I suspect because they are still taking challenges into the formula, which I think challenges should be a whole separate thing and not expected to be part of the final reward, leaving you with scraps if you didn't get any.
I think their insistence on "believing in challenges" even now after the heavy pushback, negative feedback and player loss is just very tone deaf. Just drop the challenges and reward us on a session to session basis.
If they keep "believing in challenges", they'll be stuck on a sunken cost fallacy that will cost them. Just let it go.
It already has cost them. OKTWD and Raid WWII crashed and burned bc they never listened to their community and refuse to do so now
For me the progression system was the reason payday 3 was 4/5 or 9/10 but now that the progression system is getting better its a 10/10 i hated that it gave me no xp for completing heists, just with challenges so i did complete challenges until level 77 then the patch came along and now im making progress finally, yeah its not the biggest amount of xp but its better than nothing the only heist i cannot get max amount of bags is rock the cradle and cook off because of the stealth only bags in rock the cradle and the amount of bags needed in cook off. For me it was a perfect patch. Thats all.
>Blue Archive UI
fvcking zased... i kneel
Sounds like the progression system still needs work. Players who like to go loud are going to get shafted. They need to make XP gain more like Payday 2, scaling based on how much loot you secure.
i know its not something that they will ever change, but i just miss Bain. idk, i just prefer him over shade tbh
Honestly... I'm just happy the game's playable.
It's a fun game, and it's heartbreaking to see it trip and fall so much in the last couple of months... especially because I loved Payday 2 so much.
They just need to bring back the old lvl progression cause this new one isn’t worth it especially on overkill
This is an improvement to the levelling system in the same way that finding a dollar is an improvement to your overall networth.
It's mathematically higher but practically speaking, it doesn't make much of a difference
i felt that...
people are unhappy when I point this out and call me too negative, so I have to say it's an "improvement"
@@GeneralMcBadass I like that it is somewhat of an improvement but I just wish it mattered more. Especially since I play exclusively solo
Not enough for me to come back and play really not a fan of the challenges :(
I just don’t understand why dev teams nowadays try to “fix” an exp system that isn’t broken. Like COD and Fortnite are the only games that still have the traditional good exp systems.
Why I See Blue Archive Character...
That username tho.
Never stop bringing up offline mode please god, I’ve lost more heists from a disconnect because I have poor internet than I’d like to admit. It’s bloody annoying
Can you play it offline?
No it's online only
Is that Rats you're playing for most of the video? I had no clue they were adding legacy heists into Payday 3!
Personally payday 3 progression was a minor issue compared to the horrible online play. Your telling me a coop pve game uses the same matchmaking as a competitive shooter with no pre game voice chat or stay after round completion? Who in their right mind thought this was ok? I would be down for grindy challenges if the online was actually an enjoyable experience since I did play payday 2 for quite some time when I was maxed on multiple difficulties particularly DSOD just so I could join games and meet new people. That's how good the online was. Payday 2 wasn't really a shooter first, it was more a chat room with a shooter attached.
Compare this to payday 3 where every game my teammates make me want to punch a hole in the wall. I swear the payday 3 randoms vs the payday 2 randoms are night and day. It's like they took every cooperative element in payday 2 and made it so instead of being teammates your now enemies. Take armor for example a bulldozer can take idk 2 plates off of you give or take vs a new player which will gurantee take 4 plates every round. Then you have the stealth and loud fights which start and stop when everyone leaves due to a guy wearing high armor goes loud. To top it off the devs stated they will only allow freinds to join the DLC heists this completely splits the playerbase vs those that have the DLC and those that don't. This will guarantee make it so queing public on DLC heists redundant since no one will be queing. I've never seen a company mess up its core systems this badly in gaming history.
I think they were both pressing issues, but I don't disagree at all. I do think how they handled finding games and matchmaking, even IGNORING dedicated servers and online only, was really bad and generally overlooked by most people
Apart from finishing new heists I have lost all interest. Guns are a chore to grind same as everything else. By the time you have what you want, what are you gonna do with it? play the same heists you played hundres of times to get here again?
game needs scrapped, it will take *years* before it is even decent enough to go back, and with the playercount already I doubt it will even last long enough.
I loved pd2 and got tons of dlc too. Was hyped to hear pd3 came out. Heard about leveling system and its an immediate nope from me. New changes almost makes it worse. Feels like they refuse to ditch the shitty challenges. Maybe payday 4 lol
at least the heists where you dont complete challanges arent a complete waste
I genuenly didnt notice the Changes in the Actual Progression. The Exp you get for a heist is absolutely Laughable. Im supposed to play dirty ice like 15-30 times on overkill for one single level if i dont want to be forced to complete Challenges i have absolutely 0 interest in ? And im not even talking about lvl 100+. This does absolutely nothing to fix the Progresion. Its still Terrible because of the basically non existent amounts of xp you get per heist. Especially because not everyone wants to play Overkill, full stealth, all bags on all Heists. The Challenges should be the secondary Xp Source and the Heists the Main one. Payday 3 Has already pretty much died for me because Progression after Level 40 is ridiculously slow if you dont want to actively go for challenges, The DLC is Overpriced (Especially after that Terrible launch i kinda dont see how they just get a pass for charging Double the amount of Payday 2 DLC while the base game isnt even completely fixed), the game still has barely enough content to count as a full game as it is, and my biggest annoyance with this game since launch: No offline Mode. I am very glad i could just play through game pass. Because if i would have bought it at 40€ or even more, i would genuenly have regretted it at this point.
amazing how they managed to screw up something that would have been good for the game
step in right direction, butstill tons of room for improvement. we wnt to play the game, we dontbuy a game to play the challenges.they can just be bonus xp.
People have played payday 2 for 10 years now, its progression was fine.
I don't know why they seem to have seen how halo infinite launched and copied that instead of their working formula.
Challenges > heist > bags > stealth?
I'm sorry, that's still dumb. It should be the other way around. Bags > heist > stealth > challenges.
And not just "all bags". Bags.
Seeing how it's almost impossible not to rake up a challenge or two serendipitously, especially during cook off, I feel it's solid tbh. Next focus on leveling should be organizing challenges.
Overkill fucked up by doing beta tests so late into the development cycle, let alone so close to release.
Plus, who the hell even played the beta, way to go with the feedback (Talking about youtubers who played), seen a couple of them, and it was purely to build hype.
Not to fix or improve the shit tier standing payday 3 has.
Funny with the 10+ year old compassion with challenges. Overkilled fucked up, and Amir is beyond useless, all his streams, acts like he's important for being involved with overkill, meanwhile just like in early release vids / beta vids released, was saying the same shit, game is going to be abysmal.
You could see it in the graphics and how limited and downgraded the title is.
While I do think the All Bag XP needs a buff, I'd rather keep the All Bags requirement because it encourages a "go big or go home" attitude that fits the heist movie fantasy, with the caveat of excluding extremely difficult secret loot like the secret painting on Sulphaze and the equivalent of Overdrill.
No because everyone is done with progression and there is nothing to do.
I have all the guns, which are pointless to level up because he only two attachments that many any difference are sights and a silencer.
Its a boring, half assed game that 2 months in still hasnt met bare minimum of what a game should be. For christ sakes they just added first person animations what 3 months into the game? Trash. And im glad they put it on gamepass so i didnt have to waste money on it.
Just delete the challenge of the game pls. Just put fucking exp to the game like every game ever made. Just want a basic progression. I play = earn xp = upgrade equipement. This is to hard to do for them ???? They did this for like 15 years but decide to do this shit challenge thing in the game. Do you realise that before the update you literally made ZERO XP when you finish a mission ???????? LIKE WTF. Fire the people who think that be a good idea to put this in the game pls. To force the player to play some weapons for just upgrade your level. When i réalise that i just stoped playing the game.
This new system is the best! Idc what anyone says
the best at what?
broooo why is ur game so cursed
It is better
They should just delete payday3
still not buying it
Hey Overkill, your game still sucks. It's honestly crazy that they expect any player to min-max shitty challenges that honestly are just as creative the ones I saw in CoD 4...
Hopefully they will start rewarding players for, you know, playing.
You still barely get anything from heists is actually sad lmfao, I dont get why they are so focused on people doing these challenges. No asked for this shit lmfao.
generic game, still generic.
still incredibly pathetic, still nothing is fixed, still a dead game. PD2 is still superior.
what mods are those?!?!
nvm thank u for providing them!!!!
