The Raconteurs were formed in 2005 by Jack White of The White Stripes, acclaimed solo artist Brendan Benson and drummer Patrick Keeler and bassist Jack Lawrence from The Greenhornes. Their debut album "Broken Boy Soldiers" charted at No.2 in the UK and follow up "Consolers Of The Lonely" went in at No.8. Both albums were also Top 10 in the USA. This performance from Montreux in 2008 was part of the tour in support of their second album. The setlist is split between songs from the two albums and includes covers of Terry Reid's "Rich Kid Blues" and the old Charley Jordan track "Keep It Clean". This is rough, tough rock 'n' roll with great tunes and even better guitar hooks performed by an outstanding live band.

In the beginning of the video he is using a Gretsch Anniversary Jr. modified to have a second cutaway, a Shure Green Bullet harmonica mic built into it and a MXR Micro Amp pedal built into the guitar and wired to the middle pickup. Halway through the video he switches to his Triple Jet. A custom made Gretsch Duo Jet with a copper top and a MXR micro amp built into the guitar and wired to the third pickup.

Am I alone in thinking Brendan is the real charisma in this band? (probably lol) Jack got the band world wide attention, but Brendan gives them a real coolness.
You are not alone. Brendan has that charisma that captures you.
msfrankiec85 Delighted you think the same. This is my take on it. Jack was famous already and you would be forgiven that he would be the coolest dude in any band he was in , but Bren is shit cool and a really good songwriter and performer. I think that was the surprise, how the heck wasn't he well known before Jack brought him to light. Some would even argue that jack would make any project cool, but The Dead Weather, in my opinion are dull as dishwater, because there is nothing really 'there' apart from Jack's involvement. Bren is special.
Dennis Potter if it wasn't for Jack, I wouldn't have heard of Brendan. I agree; he is an amazing artist and his songwriting skills just flow so well with the music. Jack is great as well but as you said he's already in the game and famous, so to speak. There are still people who don't know who he is and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Both have their own style that is well respected.
They are 2 sides of the same coin for me. Both very necessary for the raconteurs. But seperatly, I prefer jack. But Brenden is so very talented & extremely underrated. Yet, I have a special spot for jack too so.
Did anyone else see him just switch guitars in the middle of the song?

well, then try hitting the body of your bass. It'll make a sound that resonates. Live bands like to use this technique while standing in front of the amplifier to create regeneration sounds.

Personally, I think it sounds pretty shitty. But that fits Jack's outgoing, borderline experimental vibe. So it's still a fucking awesome guitar.
