My favorite part of this scene is that the incident is fabricated, but Hunt's son said it was absolutely something his father would do. It captured his hot-headed spirit and the respect he had for Lauda perfectly.

Yeah James Hunt’s son said he wasn’t at the press conference but if he was, he’d have reacted in a similar fashion. Plus Niki threatened to kick the reporter in the nuts if he asked that question again.

From what i recently heard: While Hunt never confronted the journo and punched his teeth in, that very same journo got to see Niki in person about a year later with his face and teeth intact. Niki immediately told the journo that he recognized him and told him that he remembers what he said about his wife, then he showed his trophy off to the journo and told him to shove it. What a legend.

Just imagine: Daniel Brühl speaks German, English, Katalan, Spanish, Italian, French. He learned the original dialekt from Vienna (Austria) for the German Version of the movie. And he learned how the Viennese speak English for the international movie. He spoke excactly like Lauda did.

You see Hunt and Lauda was enemies in that time but after press conference you can see ho much they have respect to each other.Just look at James Hunt beating idiotic reporter. We all need to give them credit for that(Hunt and Lauda).RIP both legends Hunt and Lauda

While they definitely respected each other, Hunt never beat that reporter. It was just added for the movie.

Movies aren´t documentaries. This beating didn´t happen, it was added for drama.

They have never ever been enemies in real life. They were good friends that rented room together when their F1 careers have just started and they got along really well. Niki Lauda said that himself in his interview to Graham Bensinger. They were rivals, that’s for sure, but not enemies.

This is such an underrated film. They captured the searing flames of their rivalry without compromising the respect these drivers had for each other.
You wanna talk about Niki's operation? Fine.
You wanna talk about how it could affect his performance? Fine.
You wanna take shots at his personal life & marriage? GET FUCKED.
The sheer balls on Niki to come back the way he did. Everyone was in awe of him, even & especially Hunt. For a journalist to rub dirt in that by insinuating Niki's wife would leave him for being disfigured? You, sir, are getting a front row seat to _Having Your Teeth Knocked In: The Musical_

Niki dość ciekawie mówi o ich relacjach. Konkurowali ze sobą, ale przecież byli z tej samej paczki. Poznali się przecież jeszcze jako dzieciaki w Formule 3.

    • @VivaLaDnDLogs

Exactly! When it came to racing, these two came at each other with everything in their arsenal! But when you have a crash like that, get hurt like that, suffer like that, _and still get back in the driver's seat?_
You better show some respect, because no one knows better than your fellow racers how hard that is. As much as these guys all want to win, on a deeper level they are the only ones who truly understand each other.
