A la noche los vi a Niki Lauda y a John Watson en un restaurante de la calle Florida: "La Estancia". Tengo una foto con ellos sacada en ese restaurante. Excelente recuerdo para mí. Saludos.
I am from the days when Hunt raced, and back then I just thought he was an "exotic" character, especially during the Hesketh years. But now, after hearing so many interviews with him (never mind "that one" with sir Sterling), especially the ones with Murray Walker, where so many times James set him straight about racing matters, I grew to really, really admire him. I would have loved to hear a 76 year old James Hunt dishing out intelligent and funny opinions about these (quasi boring) kids of today. Arguably, Lando Norris is the guy who most resembles Hunt, in wit and attitude.
I lived all this in my childhood, such an amazing memories. My heart was with Reutemann but I loved all of them, especially James Hunt and Niki Lauda. I believe was the most challenging era of F1, the driver was the most important part of the race, not the car as today.
Niki is the only driver to date who deliberately quit at Ferrari. After winning the second world championship in 77. Enzo was furious. Niki never forgave them his emmidiate replacement by Reutemann after his crash in 76
Niki wasn't the only one, Ascari, Villoresi, Fangio, Brooks, Phil Hill, Baghetti, Surtees, Amon, Ickx, Lauda, Reutemann, Mansell, Berger, Alesi, Irvine, Rubens, Alonso, have all left Ferrari without being fired, so that's not true at all.
@@MrTann2010 they all did not get new contracts, niki did quit his contract. It should take ferrari a very long time to get another championship car, btw with massive help from Niki again.
It’s so great the way things used to be! I was lucky enough to be taken to Brands Hatch by Stirling Moss back in the early 70s. I remember being stood in the pits with him, Lauda and Hunt all chatting away. No security. No idiots. Just proper men driving proper cars.
The 70s F1 was so amateurish compared to nowadays: 10 men teams, mechanics looking like rock roadies, team CEOs doing menial works, sleeping in the tiny trailers, smoking and drinking by the paddock, drivers hanging around freely etc.
The movie made it look like they detested and didn't trust each other. They were competitors, but friends. At one point, they even shared a flat together.
@@marguskiis7711 Now, the point of the director was exactly that. This movie was the dramatic version where the two top drivers devolved into two people that hated each other. It was said right at the beginning of the movie by the character of James Hunt.
Honestly I can still see a little bit of this report in modern day press dealings the drivers have to deal with. Feel like some drivers are still themselves on the grid today
Not really, only Max Verstappen and he is still very reserved. James Hunt genuienly said whatever he wanted to say, now in the modern world that is not possible, either the driver would be too scared to speak his actual thoughts or his media team would shut him down.
