Of the new features that were unveiled at Google’s latest Chromebook event, ‘Help me write’ is likely the one most people are talking about. With all the AI jargon going around these days, it can be easy to misunderstand how some of these new tools actually work, so we wanted to clarify a few things to help some of you know when it is time to fully take advantage of a new feature, and when it probably isn’t the right place to do so.

I was using gemini on my duet 5 to write a letter earlier. This will be very handy for those that have a chromebook plus

Hi Robbie, is there some way you can make it more obvious when you are covering a specific 'plus' feature? That would be less confusing for those of us who are not using a Chromebook plus as yet. Cheers from Australia.

Its really frustrating that my Chromebook which is equipped with i5 12th gen, 8gb ram and 128gb ssd cant qualify as a Chromebook plus amd missing those features because of not having a 1080p web-cam

I have the same question. (just thinking of the environment and how much e-waste Google is incentivizing, if not)
ps. not written with AI if it wasn't obvious.

Hey Robbie, I listen to your podcast all the time and have seen pretty much all of your videos. I'm wondering if you have any advice. I bought an Asus CX34 and for some reason I'm unable to redeem my free year of Gemini premium. I click allow to see.if my Chromebook is eligible for the offer, and after that I get a message saying "You may ot may not be eligible for this offer, click learn more_. I click learn more and I'm taken to a webpage that simply says "sorry about that". I apologise for trying to use you as tech support, but you know so much about this stuff and I've read an article you've written about not being able to redeem this offer on machines without the Chromebook Plus logo. Mine does have it thoigh. I've not redeemed the offer before and my machine is brand new. I'm also on the latest version of Chrome OS. Have you encountered this issue, and if so, how were you able to resolve it? Thanks.

Why in god's name would someone not be able to write their own thoughts and want AI to do it for them? We've known for a long time how and why being able to organize and communicate our thoughts is important for the brain to learn and for the mind to stay sharp. This is established science based on research. I'll continue to compose my own thoughts, thank you very much. Geez, I'm not against AI but some of this stuff is simply unnecessary and doesn't add to the human condition but subtracts.🙄

Not only that but it's very rude to the person reading the AI slop thinking it's actually heartfelt and coming from a fellow human.

@@nathansmith8187 We're rapidly losing the concept of just because we can do something doesn't mean we should do something.
If a person can't figure out how to respond to a letter or write a tweet or answer an email that's a much bigger problem for the individual and their capabilities that needs to be addressed instead of letting AI handle it.

I’ve got the brains of Einstein, but when it comes to writing, I’m more like a texting T-Rex. AI to help me write? Yes. Gemini to help me write? Maybe.
Until Gemini becomes to AI what Google is to Search, sometimes other AIs write better than Gemini.

Just what we all need. Limitless AI chatterbox slop heaped on us by people we're trying to communicate with. If I wanted to shoot the breeze with Chat GPT or Google's inferior ripoff version I know where it's at. I don't need the humans in my life to help. If I detect somebody is using this trash to write their correspondence the correspondence with me ends.
