Since the “void” song plays in very very deep water, my thought on the harp in it is that it’s like an angler fish, trying to lure you with a safe and calming sound that doesn’t sound quite right
Good one!
I always thought of the harp and the choir in the abyss as being a sense of resignation. Think about it: you're alone in an inhospitable environment, at what feels like the bottom of the world. No light, no oxygen outside of your suit. You're entirely isolated. It also feels relaxing, too, like maybe it'd be nice to just lie down against the craggy rocks of the void, and fall asleep.
@@rodneybuckentime4838 and then get fucking ambushed by a reaper shark
I kinda agree, but I also feel like the harp and chorus are more "open" or "vast" sounding, especially with the reverb. The eerie calm of __nothing__, but the uneasy terror in its beauty.
For me it feels like the rest of the song is the pure isolation and emptiness of the under water void but the harp is the treasure that lures you in and leads you to going deeper in and that’s kinda true because there is a chest at the bottom of the void ingame
Fun fact! Im pretty sure that in cannon the abyss is just a dead god. A god died and created a huge hole in the earth filled with so much water, at the bottom you are literally torn apart in a second or two if you dont have correct abyss diving gear because the pressure and weight of the ocean is just that high.
Not really. Silva did transform it, but it generated naturally
@@enderfire3379I see. Just some extra notes for anyone who doesn't play calamity, hadopalegic pressure plays when your at the top layer of the abyss. Void is the bottom. And Threats of the Ocean Floor plays when something finds you in the eternal darkness of the Abyss.
The abyss was natural but after silva’s remains were thrown there the abyss changed and the creatures there became stronger
Also Silva was the god of life and as said in game of course a god of life could never truly die
pro tip for new calamity players, you should totally teleport while in the abyss it's a great idea :)
I love how the abyss songs create pressure through more compressed and muffled sounds. It really helps sell the fact that they play in deep water.
Also, the violin playing with hadopelagic pressure was amazing!
Ey! Good analysis video as always! Thanks for featuring my footage ❤
Just wanted to say that your reactions are the best on RUclips for really breaking down the ost that I used to play for hours on end. Absolutely vibin' with this one.
Glad you enjoy it!
Cool fact: threats of the ocean floor was used for the adult eidolon wyrm enemy, an extremely strong enemy that spawns in the abyss. It was so powerful that it'd oneshot most players at any point in the game (it dealt a minimum of 1100 base contact damage, which is way more damage that you usually can take), so you'd hear the first 10 seconds or so, meaning that the best part of the song is hidden from most people, like its lost in the abyss
By the way, would you be interested in analysing Calamity "Infernum" theme as well? It's an add-on extension to the main Calamity mod.
Hi Myra!
@@Garbo_trashcan hello
omg its myra from terraria official its myra from official terrat omg its myra from terraria infernum
I believe He is only focusing on Dokuro’s songs. Focusing on other ost would probably be too much in a ost that already has a lot of music in it
I was sure one day she will come B)
You're REALLY making us wait for that big finale lmao.... I could've sworn you'd reached it by now. I genuinely don't remember this many tracks in the Calamity OST 😂
You miss a lot of music if you only play the games and not seek out the released official soundtrack albums.
Soon
@@StringPlayerGamerOfficial Have you listened to the boss rush themes?
The abyss is actually separated into three layers, the surface layer being the actual Sulfuric Sea (where "wasteland" plays), the mid-layer being the upper abyss (Where "Hadopelagic Pressure" plays), and the bottom layer being the lower abyss, where "void" plays.
As you go down the massive pit that is the Sulfuric ocean, somewhere where you can see clearly but still have to pay mind to the poisonous waters, you eventually hit the upper abyss, where your vision goes a bit dark, and you start to feel the pressure of the waters on you, not being able to last long without something to withstand that pressure
Eventually, you hit the lower abyss. The area is wide-open, but your vision is completely black, and the pressure is so intense that it kills you within seconds. You *need* an abyssal diving suit to go down, and even with it, you still can't see all that much, making the rather dangerous and strange abyssal creatures down there quite a threat
Void is absolutely a "depressing" song. It's the melancholy of a deep, dark, ocean, where the Goddess of Life was buried to be forgotten, though the corpse of the goddess refuses to truly die, and began shaping the Abyss into a rather lively place, for what it is anyways. Ironically, this means out of all places in the Calamity world, the Abyss is the one place that *does* have hope, as Silva's body continues to paint the Abyss with her image. It may be hostile, but it is absolutely not empty, all thanks to Silva's remains.
Even Before knowing the story of the abyss I already hated Yharim, now I simply want him dead
You forgot thermal vents and sulphuric depths
I thought the abyss was separated into 4 layers, the sulphuric sea, the upper abyss, the lower abyss being the void, and the deep abyss where R'LYEH plays, I'm not sure since I haven't played calamity and I have only watched gameplays, but I recall hearing R'LYEH in game
@@metam3747 R'LYEH was not made by DM Dokuro, also R'LYEH does play in the game, it is played when you reach the lower abyss iirc, and void plays in the wide empty part that is a straight trench to the bottom. However whenever an enemy detects you whilst in the lowest part when void plays, it switches to 'threats of the ocean floor' as its so dark in the void that even the enemies down there have a hard time detecting you.
@@xd3athclawx554 You got everything right except that it only plays 'threats of the ocean floor' when you're fighting the Adult Eidolon Wyrm, the void music stays when fighting the minibosses
For a bit of extra context, the reason that 'Threats of the Ocean Floor' sounds so abruptly grandiose is because, despite what the video says, it's not the theme for all - or really ANY - of the Abyss minibosses. The Reaper Shark (pictured in the video), the Colossal Squid (exactly what it sounds like), and even the Eidolon Wyrm (a huge yet passive sea serpent that won't hurt you unless you attack it first) actually *don't* have unique fight themes. The background music remains unchanged you fight them.
'Threats of the Ocean Floor' only plays for a single creature in the game: the Primordial Wyrm.
Forget what the title of the song says. The Primordial Wyrm is *NOT* a miniboss. It's not even a boss. The Primordial Wyrm was uniquely classified until very recently as the game's one extant SUPERBOSS. To give you a sense of how it compares to the rest of the game, here's some fun facts about it:
1. It has 2,500,000 HP, compared to the final bosses' 960,000 and 1,250,000 HP.
2. It can do upwards of a thousand damage by simply brushing against you. The max HP you can get in Calamity barring certain buffs and accessories is *600.*
3. It has at least partial resistance to pretty much every endgame debuff and weapon that you can hit it with, and the latter increases tenfold if you make it angry.
4. Some bosses summon minor enemies or miniboss-level minions to aid them in battle. This thing summons multiple standard Eidolon Wyrms.
5. Most bosses have 1 or 2 phases. The Primordial Wyrm has *6.*
6. Everything I just said is how it is now, after *multiple* nerfs.
The song starts with that piano 'scare chord' because you have no way of summoning this thing like a normal boss. It only spawns when you use certain teleportation items in the Abyss, which you'll probably first do in a panic when you start rapidly losing HP to the innate status effects the Abyss inflicts on you, likely rather early in the game when you first try exploring there. So, you'll go past a certain level in the deep ocean, either start rapidly losing oxygen/HP or just getting mobbed by enemies you can barely see in the pitch black depths, try to teleport back to a shallower level or into a nearby cave to catch your breath, and suddenly
_Primordial Wyrm has awoken!_
and before the music can even drop, your character is dead, and you the player now have psychological trauma because you were just minding your business looking for Lumenyl to make some Abyssal Diving Gear when suddenly the actual biblical literally God-damned LEVIATHAN just jumpscared you and stole your lunch money, so you aren't going back anywhere NEAR that hadal hellscale until you've killed at least another half a dozen or so gods and constructed celestial weapons, armor, and a Goddamned mecha out of their corpses first.
There is a 3rd theme to the abyss that play's between 'Hadopelagic Pressure' and 'Void' called "R'LYEH", although its NOT by DM DOKURO it is probable my favorite of the 3 as it perfectly encapsulates the feeling of the abyss at that point.
There is quite a lot of Calamity mod songs that aren't by DM DOKURO and they are all worth checking out.
Yeah!
I quite like the extras for vanilla bosses tbh, be it from infernum or the vanilla calamity music. I also really like most of the inferjun themes in general - ESPECIALLY the AEW theme.
there's also Hesitation, which is the theme of the transition between the Abyss and Sulphurous Sea.
FINALLY someone knows these layers and music exist
There's also the incredible Boss Rush music from CDMusic, if I'm remembering their name right. Only three of the five themes are finished, but they're incredible!
@@TheElysianPrince The boss rush music is so hype I cant wait for the final tier if CDM is still making it. I herd he was also bullied into quitting.
I was waiting for this one! Hadopelagic Pressure is one of my favorite Calamity songs!
its a theme not a song
The beginning of the Threats of the Ocean Floor, that beginning piano just strikes fear all the way through your body when you’re so far into The Abyss. It’s used for the one and only “Super Boss” called the Eidolon Wyrm.
why are beginning piano bits in songs always so terrifying
Feels like a botw guardian
In case you want more calamity after you finished the ost, there are also quite a handful of Calamity mod addons that add additional music. I would HEAVILY recommend you to check out these 3 tracks:
Vanilla Calamity Mod Music - The Resurrection of a Cruel World
Catalyst Mod - Galactic destruction
Wrath of the Gods - Twisted garden (unofficial music video recommended, there is no official one yet)
Apparently twisted garden does not have a video because the song isn’t completely finished, so that’s something to think about
@@PotatoWyvern noice
@@PotatoWyvern I know but its still a hell of a bop
@@themilkcat6718 i am not denying that (i have an unhealthy obsession with that song), but it is something to consider
The Abyss in Calamity, by the way, is an oceanic trench. The area where "void" plays is extremely scary; lots of very large, very powerful enemies, it's a straight shot to the bottom of the trench, and the pressure is so high that you will suffocate almost immediately without the best pressure protection.
My god, that "void" cover was impressive. Especially the last 2 "fading out" bits. That was awesome
I wish to hear more of, maybe in the shorts format, like with "Bury The Light"
What a small, yet beautiful bit
"I should use the Rod of discord in the Abyss to travel faster"
(I think y'all can figure out how that went)
I like that you used pizzicato for the start of hadopelagic pressure, it cool that you can improvise these covers so well.
I thought Void was going to be my favourite on this one, but then the drop on Threats just blew it away! Super intense, just what you'd expect in a boss fight.
Slowly Drowning is the exact concept and feel of The Abyss, in this location, water breathing effects only grant a temporary relief from drowning, You will always eventually run out of breath, and the death messages associated with this type of death state that you were crushed by the weight of the ocean.
I would like to eventually see you review Calamity tracks made by other composers, as they are just as good as Dokuro's.
Finally we arrive to my favorite collection of underrated themes. I feel that threats of the ocean floor is kinda bare bones and could be so much more with the simple idea of "what if abyss motif was boss" and had that powerful enegy of the other boss songs.
I recommend : "Under the Earth" - Theme of the Underground ; "Frozen Over" - Theme of the Tundra ; "Galactic Destruction" - Theme of Astrageldon (Phase 2)😋
*Hadopelagic pressure*

>"I SAID QUIET! if he wakes up we all screwed up and dead. And i blame you for that."
>"something feels odd. We stepped onto something but we still keep falling down. Just how deep this Trench anyway?"
>"you step onto what?"

>"I KNEW IT! I KNEW SOMETHING LIKE THIS GONNA HAPPEN. WE'RE SCREWED! WE'RE FUCKED UP. WE'RE ALL DEAD! WE ARE AAAAAAAAAA-"
The abyss is always a personal highlight of any Calamity run I do. The atmosphere of it is so oppressive and different to anything else in the mod or vanilla game, and the music helps immensely in building that feeling.
I also love the atmosphere of the abyss, its so completely different to anything else in the terraria world and even most modded too. And not only is it different, it is executed perfectly.
I myself adore music from the abyss, it is beautiful like its bosses
Hadopelagic Pressure - Theme of The Abyss
A place of once sparce life, now grown rather lush from the remains of Silva's corpse. Strange, otherworldly creatures guard the depths, protecting an ancient, forbidden relic. Only the foolish would dare to delve deeper.
VOID - Theme of The Lower Abyss
The deepest reaches of The Abyss. No light can reach this far down, and only the hardiest of creatures dare to make this place home. Somewhere amongst the rocks at the bottom of this trench lies a shrine, containing a relic of unimaginable power. However, you'd most likely be met by an end at the crushing pressures of the water, the jaws of a titanic beast, or suffocation. _This is no place of honor. _
I would recommend checking out R'Lyeh by RoverdriveX as well. It's the theme that currently plays in the 3rd layer of the abyss (used to play in both the third and fourth). Also, if you're wondering how the music is distributed in the game:
hesitation (Song made by Heart Plus Up!) plays in the first layer of the abyss (technically not part of the abyss).
Hadopelagic pressure plays in the second layer
The aforementioned "R'lyeh" plays in the third layer
Void plays in the fourth and final layer
I find I love your videos so much because of how in depth you go with explaining it. You help me understand so much more about music!
I know all of these were filmed last year, but I would love to know whether or not you reacted to Draedons themes by PinPinNeon. They are really good!
Or geniuenly any of PinPin's themes, infernum has some great music
I genuinely love this series, it's so fun to hear someone who actually understands music's take on something I absolutely love. Now I just got a quick question for you, but whenever you finish with the main mod, will you do the addons to the mod that are also there?
I haven't seen any other comment mentioning this:
Threats of the ocean floor *used* to be unused, as Dokuro was just testing the intensity of one of his new programs, but a Superboss of the abyss had come out, and the unused theme fit perfectly, and thus it was given purpose...
Genuinely amazing track, as are the other abyssal themes...
Void in particular felt like that feeling when you're underwater with your eyes closed...
And you can feel your own heartbeat...
Clutched within your chest...
That, due to being underwater, feels compressed...
You Almost feel a sense of utter distress...
As the frigid water chills your bones...
And as the darkness clouds your vision...
And as your heart beats echo...
You descend further below...
Oh god these tracks are one of my favorites they are so calm and intense at the same time
WOOOOO LET'S GOOOOO! this is BY FAR my favorite music reaction channel and BY FAR my favorite Terraria mod, absolutely smashing combo! Yeah!
Void is one of my favorite songs in the entire game. Everytime I replay Calamity I always get excited to be able to explore the void and the fight the creatures to such a beautiful song
Didnt expect you come here before some. . thing grand big boss xD
Yeah i too love this deep void abyss.
in fact, these tracks play in the semblance of the Mariana Trench of the game universe and each subsequent one describes a deeper level of the abyss with even greater danger
I gotta say, even beyond your other improvisations, that call-and-response pizzicato at the beginning of Hadopelagic Pressure was insanely good!
I would love to see you react to/breakdown some of the OneShot OST, especially the menu music: "My Burden Is Light"
The games ost feels very emotional to me mainly when connnecting the games themes to it but overall I think OneShot had a good ost!
There's also a new theme for the abyss boss that isn't part of that playlist if you wanna take a look at it.
Is Supreme Calamitas’s theme in the next video? I’m hyped either way
I hope he does Tyrant before calamitas, honestly. Even though it's scrapped it's still kne of my faves, and goes really well in-between roar of the jungle dragon and stained, brutal calamity
"void", to me at least, has always had the general feeling of an area that is extremely forbidden. Yes, the bottom of the abyss is big and empty and beautiful, but there's always that thought- No, a primordial scream throughout your brain that says "I REALLY shouldn't be here."
...and then the piano cue of "Threats of the Ocean Floor" hits. And suddenly you need a new pair of shorts.
Not too sure how many times youve been recommended this but i would love to see you review/react to the kingdom hearts series, its all about classical music and especially violins
Ohh so early to this. Yesss, love the abyss. Love that your appreciation to this soundtrack for a mod.
I feel like you would enjoy listening to the Barotrauma soundtrack. I would recommend listening to "Alien Syndicate" or "Wartrauma," both are really good songs!
here's a music suggestion on what you could do next: dead cells music
18:11 I made a GIF out of that XD
I really enjoy those videos and love the fact that someone is actually interested in those soundtracks, that imo are completely underrated and should be more famous
I was literally just mining Scoria ore and fighting abyss bosses way too early and then you posted this
You should also check out "hesitation" which is by Heart Up Plus and is used for an extra theme in the abyss!
Heart plus up also makes calamity OST
*please*
I know that the middle abyss theme called "R'lyeh" isn't made by DMdokuro, but it really sets the tone as you descend into the second layer, the sheer amount of dread I felt was unreal when I went there for the first time, and I still feel dread going there and below.
One of my favourite suites of tracks from Calamity. The Abyss themes are perhaps some of the most fitting tracks, the low, moaning sound gives it an oppressive feeling, while the little blip noises give it an almost alien-like quality. It's a perfect combination for a biome based on the Mariana's Trench and similar oceanic trenches, where we understand so little of them even today. The oppressive quality of it is what I like most by far, since the Abyss is the single biome in the game where it can and WILL kill you if you are not properly prepared for how deep you are going. A perfect masterclass of flavour meeting function
This abbys is so deep that it touches the borders of hell and also lies right under the sulphurours sea where the song 'wastelabd' can be heard during the day.
Now make an video about calamity wrath of gods the music "Twisted garden" is pure gold
If you like mysterious/enchanting uses of the harp, please please PLEASE listen to *'Excerpt from The Hope'* made for the game Destiny's OST. Its so interesting because it sounds dissonant yet makes you feel utterly tranquil.
The Abyss scares me...
And it's all because of that damn death sound when you drown down there...
I am stalking ur comments
The main face of the abyss, where is it? He's even in the video preview! I demand to appreciate this greatness of the abyss: "Vocitus Terminus" - Theme of Adult Eidolon Wyrm
I would love to see what you think of the Roboquest OST, it's the only soundtrack I turn off Spotify for.
The title screen track is called "Metal Hero"
All these themes sound progressively heavier and deeper, as you descend further and further into the abyss. It gives the feeling that you don't belong there, and you're not supposed to be there. The final theme for the boss, ended up being used, not for a miniboss, but for a semi-secret boss that you can choose to take on after you've defeated the real final boss. And it is designed to be incredibly incredibly difficult. I also love the abyss leitmotif that goes through all the tracks, makes the places feel very very well connected from a musical perspective.
not too related but
the sting at the start of the music is there for a reason as the superboss that has that music play spawns in when you try to bypass the natural way to reach the abyss and teleport in (pretty sure any part of it but more often than not its the bottom part that such a thing is done for)
basically to indicate that "you did a big mistake doing that"
You should try listening to the Cassette Beasts OST it's an underground-ish game, but the music is just so energetic.
I'd love to see a reaction to the Homeworld/Homeworld 2 soundtrack. Paul Ruskay really earned his name there with the blend of middle eastern and orchestral elements, and there's so much variety to it. Probably one of the most impactful soundtracks in gaming history.
The abyss and sulfaric sea have my favorite music in the mod
Now that you are reaching the end of the Calamity ost, it would be cool if you reacted to Twisted Garden from the DLC of Calamity mod called Wrath of the Gods😮, yes there is a dlc for a mod of a game.
Abyss. Finaly.
Threats of the Ocean Floor is being used for the boss Primordial Wyrm according to the wiki. By the way, If you would like to hear more Calamity Music after DM DOKURO's ones, apparently there is a new album called The Resurrection of a Cruel World. It aims to replace the vanilla songs from Terraria with other ones that better accompany the Calamity Mod, according to the soundtrack's composers. At least the titular song is pretty good.
0:20 Is spot on. More. please.
You're getting close. Just one more songs, and you'll be moving on to the best song in the main Calamity OST.
Also, don't be surprised if you get bombarded with requests for the Infernum mod soundtrack next.
For those who don't know, the Infernum mod is an add-on for the Calamity mod that is designed to make ALL bosses, vanilla and Calamity alike, SIGNIFICANTLY harder.
I hate the Abyss but I love The Threats of the Ocean Floor... Keep up the good reactions and don't get burned out man!
Are you saving Exo Mechs and Supreme Calamitas themes for last on purpose? If so, I would HIGHLY suggest checking out Infernum Mode (which is a Calamity add-on) themes as well, especially Zenith Fabrications. Oh and absolutely make sure to check out Wrath of the Gods add-on music, especially Twisted Garden.
I do recommend hearing the scrap calamity songs that DM DOKURO made. I do believe one is unfinished but the rest were either not used or was later removed they’re bop to hear. Are you also planning on hearing on other calamity songs that are not made by DM DOKURO? After he left other composers made new soundtracks for the mod.
i cant wait for the exo mechs its my fav calamity ost
8:10 ok, listen to the vangers ost pls
Void plays in a location that makes the Challenger Deep look shallow. It tickles the roof of Hell. It is the final resting place of a demigod, still not truly dead, but contained by the thoroughness of their destruction and the sheer pressure of the water above them. There is no light, besides bioluminescence and whatever light you inadvisably bring with you. The only life is primordial megafauna. There is absolutely nothing of value, save one thing that can best be described as an artefact of doom.
Plumbing the depths of the Abyss,to the lowermost layers where Void plays,is purely an act of hubris. Everything of value is above you,by this point, and you either know this,or will immediately come to understand when the normally claustrophobic Abyss just *opens up* into a yawning inky void.
I would LOVE to see you react to "TWISTED GARDEN". It's a song for a boss in Terraria Calamity: Wrath of The Gods, and it would be perfect for this kind of video.
Dear lord we're in deep waters now almost there to the big one
Yes
if you didn't know all the themes of calamity ost are connect to one another using similar rhythems
I'm sure he knows what leitmotivs are
It took me so long to see what the single-frame message at 20:48 was and now I’m terrified
Eh?
Will be reaction to draedon's and exo-mechs themes? And i wonder what will be future video about.
Another great vid. A cool game soundtrack you see is the Metal Gear Rising Revengence soundtrack
I'd love to hear a reaction to Blessing of the Moon. It's another unfortunately scrapped piece that is very different from the rest of the album and features a strong piano. I'd love to hwar what inspiration Dokuro used on the piano part.
Id HIGHLY reccomed you check out the first few somgs in the ost to an old french rpg by the name "OFF!"
Its a very unique and banging soundtrack.
Already made a video about OFF and it flopped. So enjoy that one video as that's all you're gonna get.
I really hope you react to "blessing of the moon," it's a scrapped song that isn't in-game, but it's absolutely one of my favorites
7:28-7:38 and 7:50-8:00 were fantastic improvised harmony sections.

Now we need to force him to play terraria calamity mod
No thanks
i know it's not a normal video idea that you do but would you consider ranking the songs from the calamity soundtrack once you get through them all?
I wonder if he will react to calamity extras and/or the infernum soundtrack
the piano at the start of Threats of the Ocean Floor never fail to make me shit myself.
I love the calamity OST
You should react to the “Phighting!“ ost! Best ost I’ve heard in a while.
when will you do a playthrough?
the abyss is my favorite biome in the mod
You assume too much.
I wonder how this man would react to touhou music if he's THIS STUNNED by terraria calamity
I’ve played calamity to much that I hear small bits and in already know the locations and progression of the game
rip to all the noobs who use terminus before realizing what it does
I’m awaiting the arrival of the next tf2 soundtrack reaction. The jungle inferno theme is top notch you will love it
I would love if you listened to some of the Epic Battle Fantasy music! Phyranna is an excellent composer!
If we ram out of the normal Calamity OST's could you please react to Infernums sound trackts too?
Subnautica has a great sound track
I feel you should also play calamity modded from terraria too but that's only if you want to! It' is an amazing game!
No I don't.
We are getting closer...
