Gotta look through your videos for the after because I’m not gonna lie. I thought the before at the beginning was the post renovation it looked so great!
My bathroom is almost identical in layout & where the tile is. This time was really pretty! Mine is all one tone beige with many cracked tiles. Mines got to go, but I wish the beautiful one you demo'd could have stayed. Nice work btw
Thanks for the tips on removing wire mesh. We have old cracked plaster on wire mesh walls in our bathroom and need to remove them. Appreciate the video and advice.
I sure don't miss these jobs. You made my elbows and shoulder hurt just watching you swing that hammer. I used the small demo hammer with a 1 1/2" flat blade, small sledge, & an angle grinder with a diamond bit. That weight was crazy for just the walls. I've always wondered how much we've taken out of these jobs. I'm guessing this had the V notched joists in the floor also.
Great video! I see your other comments about how this took 4 hours... I have 2 of these older bathrooms in my house so I should be good with a solid 8 hours of demo! 🤣
I got some guys that don't know what they are doing, my bathroom is only 8x8 all ceramic tile floor to ceiling. no lath but 2 layers on shower surround part only and 3 layers (tile over tile) on floor BUT the floor area is only 3.5x8 because of course no tile under the tub, it has taken them 4 days to tear out and still left part of the floor to be demo. I fired them, if they couldn't demo I didn't trust them to put in new bathroom. If it only took you 4 hours, they should have been done with mine in an hour. Again full bathroom is only 8x8 with tiled floor only 3.5x8
I have the exact same stuff, it is brutal!! you are a beast took me longer to do half as much! I really want to know how they put this tile up to begin with!
How many days did it take you to demo that one room? Also, if the tile strips off the concrete relatively well, is it reasonable to smooth any defects in the surface with new mud and then just mastic down the new tile (large subway tile) to the concrete as-is? Thank you!
Those mid bed walls are tough. If you have another guy. We find it as faster to knock off the top row between the plaster and mud bed. Then pry it off the studs. Bringing down a wall at a time. Then cutting into more manageable pieces if needed, to carry to dumpster.
Great content again. Does this course cover this specific bathroom? My bathroom is nearly identical so this specific project course would be the one I'm interested in. Thanks!

@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher I'm just curious. I've been a bathroom remodeler for 30 yrs. If I didn't have an air chisel I would have used an 8 pound sledge.
@@steveciarico9824 I might like to do things the hard way, 😆 I’ll try air chisel someday. Although, I’m okay not doing another demo like this for awhile, 😆
Omg…. Next time use an angle grinder with diamond tip and cut out complete sections, use a long crowbar to pull the cut out sections from the studs. The sections are very heavy so probably shouldn’t do sections more than 2’ by 4’
In a previous comment he said the previous owner had painted all of the tile and the paint was peeling. So, shame on the previous owner for creating a mess of the artwork. I was shocked and disappointed to see it torn out as well.
@@robjohnston5292ok, that's why it looks so white. Mine is almost identical to this but the tiles are discoloring and the floor needs an update because there's a crack. If I could clean it up I would but it doesn't seem possible.

This vintage bathroom is beautiful! :(
Right I would have never torn that tile down!
I wouldn't have torn down the black and white but i saw a house with pink and green tile like that and it was hideous
Wow...crazy amount of work and effort.
Best option for a beautiful old solid bathroom like this is to learn to love it.

Thankfully no, just chicken wire over 3/4” planks. About 1 1/2” thick not 2-3” with the v notch 👊

Once you remove the wire stuff. What did you put up? Just drywall?
@@henry1343 drywall where there will not be tile but cement backer board for the tile area.
@Gary Caruso thanks. I think my hardest part is the bathroom has tile on the ceiling in of the tub space. Going to hard to remove.
Diamond blade on skill saw, then side grinder.. cut into manageable chunks

If chip behind the tile and not into the face of the tile the hammer drill works great

Any issue with asbestos?
@@MichaelBrown-ip9mt not yet but when I do something like this definitely got my mask on for demo
Is there any risk that there is asbestos in the mud bed walls, or plaster above?
How do you determine if you bathroom is mud walls?
Thickness, usually. The surface of the tile stands way out from the drywall.
How did you repair floor where you had to dig down into the floor mortar?
why remove it? it looks great
How'd you get that tub out, though... especially after it was filled with broken tiles?
How much would you charge to demo this type of bathroom down to the studs for all the walls and floor?
