They changed bench standards now in power lifting, you're shoulders now have to break the line of your shoulders on the bench. Much like breaking parallel for squat in crossfit. Love this change, decreases the huge arch crap. I'm sure it will need fine tuning, but I'm glad they are working on it.

John kind of proves you don't need to do olympic lifts to develop explosive power. Dude just powerlifts and comes in and casually power cleans just as much as dudes who've been doing it for years.
@janpicksthingsup yeah. technically it wouldn't, but i think OP is using a more general (and more common) definition of the word "squat" there. Like he could power clean 405 without needing to bend his knees much at all, vs something that's technically a power clean but has a lot of knee flexion
John is just so unholily strong this is literally insane I would run if I saw that Demon of a Powerlifter at night and you can watch me turn that sprint into a marathon because my only chance is distance 😱😱😱
John is really strong because he truly power cleans it to his neck. He doesn't open his feet to allow himself to clean the bar lower and catch it. He literally brings the bar from the floor into the clean position without any tricks.
@@MartynasKarklis the further you open your legs the easier the lift is. I always do it like John does until I cannot do it like that no more. Then I open the legs to catch it in a classical power clean, however that is a bit of "cheating", it demonstrates pure strength to bring it from the floor to your chest without artificially reducing your height.
The power clean is defined as bringing a barbell from the ground to one’s front rack, receiving the weight in an above parallel squat. Your definition is incorrect. The goal is lift the most weight possible, which requires superb technique and not just strength.
@@andrewmontgomery1763 I think English is not your first language. No problem. He does receive the bar in his front rack but in a squat of feet close together, thus he receives it at almost his real height without any reduction, the further the feet are in the squat the lower your height will be and the easier the lift is. Pretty simple. Picking up the bar and just cleaning it up to your neck in one pull is extremely impressive.
that's called a muscle clean, it is definitely more impressive than a power clean, but just like the power clean, it's only an accessory for the clean and jerk.
