Hey man, good stuff right here! I am retro fitting a 2014 C250 steering wheel with paddles to my 2010 C300. Can you confirm best is to get a 2012-2014 Facelift C-class steering column? I saw in the video you referenced an E-class W212, but which model steering column did you end up using? So I can find that same steering column to use! Thanks Chris.
Yes. You can use same as me since my wheel is the 2016. You need a specific column for that wheel older wheel.

You have just made my day! This means I can replace the steering wheel and switch module in my 2009 W204 with a later wheel and module, I hate the silly indicator stalk location in the older models, awesome!!

I have now found a wheel and air bag and column off a 2011 w204.... everything should work just like yours ....is that correct? Thanks in advance for your videos they are great and keep them coming you made it all look so easy

If you buy a wheel without all arrow buttons you don’t need new paddle shifters. Pull the female pins out of the connector and directly connect them to the contact plate. They are simple on/off switches.

because that one is precisely made and centered from the factory, i heard that you need to exactly torque the bolt at a specific rate?

Oi, eu tenho um W212 de 2011 E250 e comprei exatamente a mesma roda e a mesma coluna de direção, mas eles não funcionam. A instalação foi muito fácil e todos os plugues foram conectados como deveriam, mas nada funciona, nem mesmo o braço da engrenagem. Há algo que eu esteja sentindo falta ou algo que eu possa fazer para que eles funcionem? Eu tentei diferentes combinações entre as rodas e colunas antigas e novas e a única maneira que qualquer coisa funciona com o par antigo. A ligação do modelo antigo tem menos fios que o novo, mudei a posição dos fios nos plugs e não funcionam.
Pode enviar fotos das fichas?

Hi mate, i wonder if i could do that to my mercedes w204 2008 amg.? And the other thing. When you shorlw the two columns to swap. The "new one" has a stick on the right-hand side of the column.
But once you actually fit it in the car, there is nothing on the right-hand side of the column. Why is that?

Hello Sir. I am a 63-year-old disabled person but I work on my pride and joy which is my 2001 Mercedes E430 W210. I would love to do upgrades as you do to it but I don't know with what other model ar the connections compatible with. I would love to do upgrade on the side view mirrors and the steering wheel. You almost only work on newer models and my limited income does not allow me to change my car, so I take very good care of it even though I can't do all the work of maintenance because of my limitations. It would be a dream to see your work on a w210, but for now could you at least advise me what other models my car is compatible with? THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH.. I'm a HUGE FAN

I would love to get some clarification before I start buying parts. In your video description you say this will work on the W204. What i'd like to know is if this will work on a facelifted W204 (2012-2015)? Also, at the start of your video, on your new steering column you have that shifter lever. However, When you install it on the car, the shifter lever is missing from the new steering column. I am guessing you removed it yourself. Is there a plug that can go in its place so you don't have a big hole on the side of the column?

You don’t have to change the column I think that is optional depending on the wheel
I have a 2013 CLS W218 with the updated levellers already. Do I need to buy new ones from a newer car like the W205 or can I just use my existing ones? Also, what about lane keep assist (with the vibrator) etc? I don't want to lose the vibration functionality or paddles.
Hi Chris, saw your video through mbforums. just a quick question, i see that the new steering column has the shifter on its right side, but what if my shifter is on the center console area like a traditional shifter would be. is there a way to remove the steering column shifter and maintain the one i currently have?

Hi CKM, in the first part of the video the new steering column has a gear selector and in the fitment part it is gone, did you remove this?

Hello. Is the plastic part behind the indicator stalk column interchangeable? The one where the plastic clips clips toghether? The column i ordered does not seem to have one. w204 changing from 2008 (same as in video) to 2012 D-style.
UPDATE: In this case, they were not. Stalks too far apart on new one to fit holes in plastic.

I have a 2016 E400 W212 and my vehicle steering system comes with several control functions like Distronic plus with steering assist, heating steering wheel. So do I need to also replace my steering column to install a AMG steering wheel like the one in your instructional video? Or make sure the new steering wheel has all the same controls functions of the one I want to replace? My E400 has a two tone color interior (Red and Black) so the AMG steering wheel in your video would be a beautiful match upgrade.

What did you do with the transmission stick? On the side of the wheel and also if you keep it will it mess up the gearbox bc it’s on the side?

So the new steering column in the video(w212 +2014) can just fit my older e-class, w212 2013 without any other adaptor or something? All I have to do is just getting a new one and insert it like that? I asked many Korean mechanics about this issue but they're not sure about it, just bc they never tried ; they have experiences of replacing with the same column model, though. Not like my case. I want to replace my w212 2013 column with the new w212 +2014 column to install a new w205 AMG steering wheel. Plus they're saying that changing a steering column can be very tricky so they just recommended me to change the board inside the steering wheel rather than changing the column. But I'd love to use a new column too. So I just wanted to double check if I can use the newer column without any change in my car, before I purchase a new steering column as well as an AMG steering. Thanks !

The column that is shown in the beginning of the video shows the gear selector on the column the one that you installed does not have it did you remove the gear selector from the column before you installed it
You can just remove it if you like. Wont affect it. In my case I bought one without it.
First thing i noticed and couldnt stand on my c300 was the huge stearing wheel!! I need to do this swap! Hopefully i can afford it soon!

@@CKMCardesign Do you know if a W166 AMG wheel with lane assist works in a 2012 W218 with lane assist? I am seeing active lane keep assist system inoperative and I have all of the correct parts (updated column and w166 wheel with vibrator). I am curious if the 2012 and 2015+ systems are different and not compatible. Everything else on the wheel, buttons, lights, paddles & column stalk works.

One more question, when you changed the new steering column combination switch, you didn't have to program your car again? I bought exact same steering column switch with a new steering wheel after watching your video. But all the mechanics in Korea are saying there will definitely be some conflicts because it's not the original part. My car is w212 2013. And the new column switch is w212 +2014 as you know. So after changing the new column switch you din'd find any error messages in your car? I really want to know if we can just change the column without doing any programming. If so, that'd be awesome !!
No. They dont know what they talk about. No errors if its the corect wheel and column.

When you removed the old airbag there was two connectors, on the new airbag I see just one connection, where did that second connection come from it didn't show on the new column ?

The old one had that in the car. But yes that works normaly if you get the column for it.

Hello, I changed steeri g wheel with column on my w212 2010, but getting esp error after wheel turned right, tried to reset angle by turning all way left and right and reset fault by mercedes star diagnostic, but still error appears, when wheel turns right. Any suggestions?

If you car is a automatic and you get the corect column then yes.

Yes for any modern wheel you need a column.
