- Here is my iMac G3 Graphite. It was the first Apple computer I picked up for only $30. Most of the time I keep it in storage since it can't keep up with the internet today because the CPU and graphics are integrated and can't be upgraded. It's makes a great iTunes jukebox and it even plays DVD's very well.
Here are the Specs:
CPU is a 600 MHz G3, Ram is 512 MB, Video is ATI Rage Pro2 with 16 MB VRAM, Slot load DVD player, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger installed.
Mine was $1800 when I first bought it. Just gave it to a buddy for charity or to raise money for Scouts by recycling. On one bad move I incorrectly formatted the hard-drive and lost everything, but I kept the hard drive hoping that some day I can recover the data. When I bought mine, it came with OS 9 and you could boot into OS 10 when it came out.
500Mhz is good. You can add up to 1 GB of Ram and you could run Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger with ease. Just remember, these iMacs are vintage now. They won't do so well with heavy web browsing.
@chancethehippie If it is a 450Mhz G3, then it is probably a Summer 2000 iMac G3.
I purchased one for $30 myself yesterday and it looks like the OS needs to be freshly installed, and I might install either Mac OS 9.2.1, Mac OS X 10.0.4 Cheetah, or Mint PPC 11.
486 junkie do 10.3 Panther, it’s the one that runs best on the old G3 PowerPCs.
in comparison to modern macs how fast would you compare them?(i dont expect them to be very close i am just wondering)
I have a 500 MHz iMac g3 with 320 MB of Ram running 10.1. It does just about anything that I want it to... And with the help of Camino (Best web browser ever btw) I've actually gotten it to play youtube videos. So I really don't think these computers are ready for the closet just yet. :D
i plan on buying an imac graphite from a friend(my first time buying and imac) is 500mz good?
I got one of these for FREE it was 400 MHz though but when I turned it on it started up the tiger intro video it came with a 60 gig had and a DVD drive and 256 Meg's of ram the same day I upgraded it to a gig it has 10.4.11 I just think I'm lucky (:
hey i am about to buy one of these computers and i t has Apple iMac, G3, Tiger 10.4.3, 450 Mhz, 1.5 GB, 320 SDRAM do you know what year this is?
Chance Stockton probably summer 2000. Try identify my Mac sites
What color is it-if it’s not Ruby, Graphite, Indigo, or Snow it’s probably an earlier model.
