I heard the suspense-building music used for transitioning between Oliver & Company and The Little Mermaid at the beginning of a trailer for the upcoming Peabody & Sherman film from Dreamworks. I wonder if that might be stock music or something.
Dude , I got chills at 6:12. That whole sequence best describes how epic and grand the films were of our childhoods. The 90's really was one of the best decades for Disney Animation!
Me too, The 90s was a great time to be a kid, just looking at this video makes me feel seven years old again, wow I am so close to hitting the big three-o that I am starting to feel old.
I'm so proud to be a 90's kid because I got to experience the Disney Renaissance during my childhood. It was great growing up during a time when almost every year brought Disney Gold.
When The Rescuers Down Under first opened in theaters, at 8 in the morning, Jeffrey Katzenburg called Mike Gabriel, the director of the film, and Mike asked what are the numbers. And Jeffrey said it made 5 million and it was over. Mike was confused. Jeffrey pulled all TV advertising of the film. When he also told Tom Schumacher, he couldn't believe it either that he pulled it and there was nothing. Jeffrey simply told Tom the film didn't work and it was over. And Tom began to cry on the phone and Jeffrey said it was okay because the next day they started over and tried something different to work on another movie. And that movie was Beauty and the Beast.
I Love "The Little Mermaid." It's the First Disney Movie I ever saw, when i saw it, I was learning how to swim, Which is why I consider it my main fave Disney film. and Ariel is my No. 1 Fave Disney Heroine.
Crews Owen actually yes it was I read it in my Disney history book it mentioned that the Rescuers down under is in fact the first sequel not the first direct to DVD sequel but it was the first sequel
8:45 But then when Wreck-It Ralph was a success, times have change for the original Disney Animation Studios itself to go back making sequels in their studios without the hands of Disney Toons
Ill put it this way: its probably better than the little mermaid and basil the grerat mouse detective. Especially if you are more action oriented then its one of disneys best ever films (george C scott as the villain some really intense sequences and epic set pieces that come off as very indiana jones like) . what makes it underrated is that it gets nowhere near the praise that its relative equals get: in gneral its considered by most disney fans as another one of the B grade disney films ( while oddly : aristocats and 101 dalmations are considered A grade) . I actually think in terms of spectacle and especially the villain and straightforward plot to be better than the lion king it helps that everyone in it is kind of a badass especailly the kid. But thats controversial as people like melodrama comedy sidekicks, elton john and sing along numbers that sound suspiciously similar to other songs form previous movies. Just me being a hater :P
I think you forgot to mention freaking ALAN MENKEN for The Little Mermaid part. I believe it was the first Disney movie he composed for (and he too worked on Little Shop of Horror's soundtrack just before). This guy is a Disney legend as a composer !
Interesting to note for The Little Mermaid, the Ship Scene that leads to Ariel saving Eric is barely on the screen for 2 minutes and change, yet it took over 2 years to animate. Also the first time Pat Caroll voiced a villian (Ursula the sea witch)
I love this series - it's fascinating, well made and truly captivating - but as an Australian, when you said "Eye-urrh's Rock" I virtually died laughing.
I read that The Little Mermaid will be reissued in 3D this year. I'll be 25 this year, so it'll make me imagine myself being born in 1964, like if I was that old during its initial release.
The Little Mermaid did a lot better with their story, their performances, the backgrounds and their style on how they wanted the movie to look. Not once did I ever get confused on what the story was about. But I never understood anything that happened in Back To The Future.
@panda19056 I released a video explaining what actually happened. I wouldn't have removed the video because to promote the other website I'm in. If someone would check that video, it would say it was removed due to term of use. If I try to upload that video again, RUclips would say no. So just to be clear, I didn't remove the video for promotional reasons.
The Little Mermaid was a wonder to behold. Snow White was the one that started it all, and The Little Mermaid started it all - again, putting Disney animation back on its feet.
I put it there cuz Roy died when I was in the middle of editing that Little Mermaid part. Also, wat do u do 4 a living 2 meet these people? I mean, who else did u meet?
I wanted to jump out of my seat when I saw the Little Mermaid part. I LOVE that movie! :) I am a true Arielholic and I even met Jodi Benson last year(which had been a lifelong dream of mine since I was 5). :) Also, I like the fact you put in a little tribute to Roy at the end.
I freakin LOVE Oliver & Company, the beginning always makes me cry, the songs always stick in my head for weeks after I watch it, and just aaaahhhhhh so good!!! One of my favourite Disney movies no doubt. (Treasure Planet is still #1 though. Sorry Oliver.)
@SuperLegendOf364 Luckily I disregarded a huge chunk of them, especially before John Lasseter bravely stepped in and announced not to make any more sequels to the Disney Animated Canon entries for the exact reason you mentioned.
You know what I don't get? Lady and the Tramp was the first Disney movie to be in widescreen; so, shouldn't every Disney movie after that be widescreen by default?
Uh, no. The reason why the Silly Symphony was cancelled was because they didn't want to blow their budget on underwater scenes like on the scene with Monstro in Pinocchio.
As for theatrical sequels, I wouldn't say the Rescuers Down Under was the last theatrical 2D Disney movie to be made. I would say that The Jungle Book 2 movie release was what really made the final decision to not make sequels have theatrical releases. However, I'm sure if they had chose to make the Lion King have a theater release it would have probably done very well. I mean, look at all the fan art this movie still produces after 18 years!
Ayers Rock is pronounced Air's Rock there is no extended rrr sound in the word (the rock is also called Uluru = oo-la-roo). A lot of place names in Australia are not said how the word is spelt. Now I'm going back to lunch and my Vegemite sandwiche :)
Hey disney is back at making sequels ask Frozen and Wreck it Ralph they are getting sequels and not direct to DVD actual sequels by Disney animation studio
the little mermaid: "all dogs go to heaven"? more like "all dogs go to hell" amirite all dogs go to heaven: yo our animation is good as yours XDD the little mermaid: yo which one is made by disney? oh IT IS US all dogs go to heaven: too bad your sequels are bad jetsons the movie: hey can i join the little mermaid: yo go away jetsons all dogs go to heaven: yeah this is bad timing! jetsons the movie: my bad, see ya next year
Hehehe, I have a pretty good job. :) I've met others: Paige O'Hara, Eddie Caroll, late and great Wayne Alwine and Russi Taylor, Tony Anselmo, Bill Farmer and Tony Baxter just to name a few. :)
BTW, you forgot to note Alan Menken's contributions to Little Shop of Horrors and The Little Mermaid. Not belittling Howard Ashman's contributions; it's just annoying when one gets credit and the other is kind of forgotten.
The pop artists in Oliver & Company are great. Huey Lewis, Bette Middler, Billy Joel, etc. They sing pretty catchy songs in the film. Too bad it wasn't as good as it could've been.
I only watch the Little Mermaid on VHS. I'm afraid of Fast Play and the Hillary Duff cover of Kiss the Girl was the worst trash in Disney history, beating Chicken Little by a hair.
Ya know what's interesting? When the studio made "The Little Mermaid", the animation studio was moved from the big star building with all the specialised equipment, to a warehouse. Wanna know what's brilliant about that? They then went on to make Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast AND the Lion King, some of the most critically acclaimed disney films to date. So, wanna make great animated films? Work in a dump...
Oliver and Company is not the only Disney Film that Got released on the Same day as non-Disney Film (The Land Before Time), this Past Friday, Winnie the Pooh was released the same day as Harry Potter 8, pt. 2.
Full Voice Cast: Oliver and Company Joey Lawrence: Oliver - Natalie Grogory: Jenny Foxworth - Billy Joel: Dodger - Sheryl Lee Ralph: Rita - Richard Mulligan: Einstein - Cheech Marin: Tito - Roscoe Lee Browne: Francis - Bette Midler: Georgette - Dom DeLuise: Fagin - Robert Loggia: Sykes - Taureen Blacque: Roscoe - Carl Weintraub: Desoto - William Glover: Winston - Frank Welker: Louie the Hot Dog Seller, Multiple Animals - Peter Cullen: Multiple Males - Chris Latta: Multiple Males - Charlie Adler: Multiple Males - Tress MacNeille: Multiple Females - Nancy Cartwright: Multiple Females - Billy West: Multiple Males - Linda Gary: Multiple Females Full Voice Cast: The Little Mermaid Jodi Benson: Ariel - Jason Marin: Flounder - Samuel E Wright: Sebastian - Pat Caroll: Ursula - Christopher Daniel Barnes: Prince Eric - Kenneth Mars: King Triton - Buddy Hackett: Scuttle - Paddi Edwards: Flotsam and Jetsam - Ben Wright: Valet Grimsby - Will Ryan: The Seahorse - Edie McClurg: Maid Carlotta - Rene Auberjonois: Chef Louis - Frank Welker: Max the Dog - Peter Cullen: Multiple Males - Jack Angel: Multiple Males - Charlie Adler: Multiple Males - Nancy Cartwright: Multiple Females - BJ Ward: Multiple Females Full Voice Cast: The Rescuers Down Under Adam Ryen: Cody - Eva Gabor: Miss Bianca - Bob Newhart: Bernard - George C Scott: Percival McLeach - Frank Welker: Joanna the Komodo Dragon and Marahute the Eagle - John Candy: Wilbur the Albatros - Tristan Rodgers: Jake - Bernard Fox: Chairmouse and a Mouse Doctor - Russi Taylor: A Mouse Nurse - Wayne Robson: Frank the Lizard - Peter Firth: Red the Kangaroo - Douglas Seale: Krebbs the Koala - Carla Meyer: Faloo the Kangaroo, Cody's Mother - Billy Barty: Baitmouse - Ed Gilbert: Francois the Waiter - Charlie Adler: Multiple Males - Peter Cullen: Multiple Males - Jack Angel: Multiple Males - Nancy Cartwright: Multiple Females
The Rescuers Down under was my favourite as a kid and i still love it today. Its one of my best loved Disney films!
2:44 I love that pic of that Disney vhs collection!! 🤩
2:01 This was used again in animation lookback Don Bluth.
I heard the suspense-building music used for transitioning between Oliver & Company and The Little Mermaid at the beginning of a trailer for the upcoming Peabody & Sherman film from Dreamworks. I wonder if that might be stock music or something.
it's from a movie called the good the bad and the ugly (I think) it was used as a mexican stand off music
Sara Houck It's actually from the movie Brazil.
2:05 I love that western music!!
Dude , I got chills at 6:12. That whole sequence best describes how epic and grand the films were of our childhoods. The 90's really was one of the best decades for Disney Animation!
And the best decade in general.
Oliver and Company is a good late 1980s version of Secret Life of Pets.
Ben Daly McKenna pretty much
Me too, The 90s was a great time to be a kid, just looking at this video makes me feel seven years old again, wow I am so close to hitting the big three-o that I am starting to feel old.
The Rescuers Down Under, One of my Favorite Movies
Cody is also one of my Favorite Characters
8:04 To be precise, Roy E. was the son of Roy O. & Edna. I definitely see the family resemblance. :)
+Collins Crapo So sad that he passed right when he was making this part :(
I'm so proud to be a 90's kid because I got to experience the Disney Renaissance during my childhood. It was great growing up during a time when almost every year brought Disney Gold.

My God! Jeffrey was such a threat at Disney wasn't he.
who else couldn't help but sing along to Dodger's song?
8:45-8:52 that will change once Wreck It Ralph 2 comes out next year.
Actually, Walt Disney Animation did Winnie the Pooh, the first (and so far only) sequel done by themselves. Also, this year, Frozen 2 will be out.
THE LAND BEFORE TIME IS AWESOME!!! i like Oliver and Company too. they're both great
I Love "The Little Mermaid." It's the First Disney Movie I ever saw, when i saw it, I was learning how to swim, Which is why I consider it my main fave Disney film. and Ariel is my No. 1 Fave Disney Heroine.

6:29 to 6:35
Wow! I didn't know The Rescuers DownUnder was DIsney's ever first sequel! Cool!
madina kivis Thank you again little sister! What's your favorite Disney movie?
Thank you for favoriting my comment and Christ Jesus loves you!
Crews Owen actually yes it was I read it in my Disney history book it mentioned that the Rescuers down under is in fact the first sequel not the first direct to DVD sequel but it was the first sequel
I love Oliver and Company! It was one of my favorite movies as a kid but it doesn't seem to have the popularity it should.
I love disney!!!! i LOVE your videos!!! GREAT JOB!
Oliver and Company is one of my favorite Disney films in the 1980's (besides The Little Mermaid)!
instablaster...
Ah... I thought the same. The Rescuers is a good movie on its own. When I was a kid, I didn't even know there was an original movie to this one.
Dragon:but the only problem is she's a mermaid not a human
Arial:CRAP
8:46 ~Looks at upcoming Disney Movies~
Never again you say probably?
also the voice of Bianca was also Duchess, but u probably know that being an awesome disney historian head 2 toe, I just know a few things :)
8:45 But then when Wreck-It Ralph was a success, times have change for the original Disney Animation Studios itself to go back making sequels in their studios without the hands of Disney Toons
Roy was so lucky to have such a well succeeding buiness and he will be in my wall of people I love, right next to his uncle
"Bringiton!"-Don Bluth.
The captions called Don Bluth "John Boos". WTF?
And Oliver Twist is Oliver Twins?
The Rescuer's down under is underrated right?
Versipellis the rogue Changeling in a way yes
Ill put it this way: its probably better than the little mermaid and basil the grerat mouse detective. Who else cried in the scene you and me in oliver and company
"It was released the same day as The Land Before Time." OOF
@charles grange Now I can tell why there was suspense-building music when he was about to discuss it like he did for Cinderella!
I love this series - it's fascinating, well made and truly captivating - but as an Australian, when you said "Eye-urrh's Rock" I virtually died laughing.
2:10 GOOD REVIEWS!???!!
Last time I checked it had a 44% rating on rotten tomatoes
Yeah it actually garnered mixed reviews upon release, while Land Before Time earned positive reviews.
Why Should I Worry is my favorite song in Oliver in Company
SuperPlush Kolin same here 😍
I'm surprised you dedicated this video to Roy E Disney. May he rest in peace.
9:02 R.I.P. Roy E. Disney
Looking at the animation, it's incredible that there's only a 1 year gap between Oliver and Company and The Little mermaid!
I read that The Little Mermaid will be reissued in 3D this year. I'll be 25 this year, so it'll make me imagine myself being born in 1964, like if I was that old during its initial release.
The Twin Towers are in the backround of Oliver and Company? I'm sad now.
Me too!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
The Little Mermaid did a lot better with their story, their performances, the backgrounds and their style on how they wanted the movie to look. Not once did I ever get confused on what the story was about. But I never understood anything that happened in Back To The Future.
In case not many people know this fact, but Ariel was created using a picture of Alyssa Milano during animation.
@panda19056 I released a video explaining what actually happened. I wouldn't have removed the video because to promote the other website I'm in. If someone would check that video, it would say it was removed due to term of use. If I try to upload that video again, RUclips would say no. The Little Mermaid was a wonder to behold. Snow White was the one that started it all, and The Little Mermaid started it all - again, putting Disney animation back on its feet.
2:17 don Bluth make land before of time was early disney producers.
The first time I remember watching the little mermaid was in this school I used to go to when I was 5 and I remember they showed it more than once.
oliver and company, the great mouse detective, and the rescuers down under are WAY underated
0:25 I think you mean Sykes, not Skyes XD
5:25 dear lord, think you got enough screens in your theatre for it AMC XD
I'm On Disney's Side, Oliver & Company Was Part Of My Childhood.
It Should Have Earned More Than Don Bluth's The Land Before Time.
I'm agree on that, buddy. :D
I put it there cuz Roy died when I was in the middle of editing that Little Mermaid part. Also, wat do u do 4 a living 2 meet these people? I mean, who else did u meet?
ElectricDragon505 I teleported into the universe of the Aristicats and I met the racist aisain stereotype cat. That's one person I met.
9:01-9:04 This part was dedicated to Roy E. Disney
What is the name of the music playing in the background starting at 2:25? It has been bugging me for a long time!
michael kamen central services / the office
8:48 Years later here comes Ralph Breaks The Internet and Frozen II.

HOLY STEAMPUNK, I believe Ron Cle...Clemens? Is holding a figurine of Captain Amelia!

I know just wanted to write it to say that Disney is back at making sequels, I knew this video was made before any of that
the little mermaid: "all dogs go to heaven"? more like "all dogs go to hell" amirite
all dogs go to heaven: yo our animation is good as yours XDD

The Little Mermaid = We see who will win , stink dog .
Hehehe, I have a pretty good job. :) I've met others: Paige O'Hara, Eddie Caroll, late and great Wayne Alwine and Russi Taylor, Tony Anselmo, Bill Farmer and Tony Baxter just to name a few. :)
You forgot to mention the sexual Controversies in the Little Mermaid.
I personally loved both Oliver and Land Before Time.
BTW, you forgot to note Alan Menken's contributions to Little Shop of Horrors and The Little Mermaid. Not belittling Howard Ashman's contributions; it's just annoying when one gets credit and the other is kind of forgotten.
Oliver and Company= 😁

land before time and oliver and company WAS my childhood
Disney Vs Don Bluth animation battle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At what point did the Little Mermaid use the CAPS system?
At the end.
The Little Mermaid was the first animated film to use the cap system, The Rescuers Down Under was the second
I only watch the Little Mermaid on VHS. I'm afraid of Fast Play and the Hillary Duff cover of Kiss the Girl was the worst trash in Disney history, beating Chicken Little by a hair.
Don't worry, it gets better
Maybe Disney should have Studio Ghibli do it.
Now they on DVD!
I love how you used western showdown music
I like The Rescuers Down Under except these other disney sequels.
What song is the Rodger rabbit clip?
Ya know what's interesting? When the studio made "The Little Mermaid", the animation studio was moved from the big star building with all the specialised equipment, to a warehouse. Wanna know what's brilliant about that? They then went on to make Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast AND the Lion King, some of the most critically acclaimed disney films to date. I got to see a preview for the Little Mermaid Musical in Denver in 2007 before it hit Broadway.
I love The little mermaid!
I know that feel, bro. I know that feel. (hugs)
What was the name of the music u used at 2:05
michael kamen central services / the office
It's the theme tune from the famous film "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly"
Well, at least All Dogs became #1 VHS film for more than a week in 1990. Yes, It beat that mermaid in that department :P
Who else thought that Oliver and Company should've been in the renascence line up?
I wasn't a big hit or that well received.
StageLined I think it was because it didn't feel like a Disney film (Land Before Time even felt more traditional)
The Disney Duck Tales movie was also released in 1990.
@MovieMusicBoy Both are Brilliant.
Oliver and Company is not the only Disney Film that Got released on the Same day as non-Disney Film (The Land Before Time), this Past Friday, Winnie the Pooh was released the same day as Harry Potter 8, pt. 2.

Anyone else notice the statue at 3:36 is Captain Amelia from Treasure Planet?
Actually, Oliver & Company did beat out The Land Before Time at the domestic box office by about 5 million dollars.
What are the box office results because I can't believe that Oliver And Company actually beat The Land Before Time at the box office
Oliver & Company Domestic Total Gross: $53,279,055
The Land Before Time Domestic Total Gross: $48,092,846
Thats what box office mojo says.
What does Wikipedia say it is?
Here's what they made world wide.
Oliver and Company: $72 Million
Land Before Time: $84 Million
I was talking about the domestic box office, not how much cash they made worldwide.
Why didn't you mention Alan Menken working on The Little Mermaid?
I was actually going 'Oh God, I hope the next film is a good one, or they'll close!' then I realised that this is a lookback....
2:26 what music background is from?..
7:40 well i have and i know pixar very well
