Thrilled. Thanks so much for showing such hands-on material :) So the S series are using the same flash protocol as the G series and MicroFourThirds? I'm hoping that Sigma and Leica will use the same protocol. It may take a little while, but I'm eager for both an S1 and a Sigma Foveon, particularly for use with manual VM/ZM lenses and Sigma ART lenses. I'm curious about Panasonic's strategy for their Lumix S lenses (10/10 for the manual clutch). The large size greatly appeals to me as I've been aiming to get something durable and comfortable, and I already have compact lenses and cameras covered. I like the idea of being truly confident with the thermal control and battery capacity. The high-res/high-refresh EVF seems ideal for using my manual lenses at their intended focal range - I'm glad I've held out on FF for all this time. Sigma's MC-11 tempted me toward the A7III since that third-generation seemed to have mitigated a lot of my concerns, but it still seemed compromised, or at least not designed according to my points of interest. The L Mount Alliance is a dream... more coverage please! And let's see some lighting with Jim!
Thanks Robert! Really intrigue about this camera and perspective from a still wedding photographer. I'm hoping for thorough review of the AF with matured FW, Sigma L lens and EF-L adapter before making the decision. It looks like a promising system
His work is solid, just impressed all around. I'm probably not going to buy this camera, but seeing his work, and thoughts on how these products are used... Man it was a treat, thanks for the great content!
He sure does. It's not often that people teach me things about lighting these days, but just in our discussion he was teaching me things that I had never considered, it was extremely humbling.
I've had the pleasure of listening to Jim's lighting presentations many times at the PhotoPlus Expo shows in New York. He always draws very large crowds and with good reason. It's always time well spent listening to someone who REALLY knows what he's talking about.
Thanks for the video Robert, Question: Could you work the S1 in MF3 mode and the GH5s together to get identical results? working with the GH5s as a second camera I mean! by the way... I've seen Jim since the 80s, I have several videos of him, he was one of my VHS teacher!
Pulling images out of video footage, that are still-camera quality will be the end of Photography. It will be all video and anyone will be as good as the very best photographer. That’ll be the day photography dies. So let’s live it up now because our beloved hobby is soon to end. Do we thank Sony and their Mirrorless technology for this unhappy day?
David Putzier Soon, with Photoshop and other software, you won’t even need flash. All your lighting will be through software. It’s almost true now as well.
the mostly positive reception to these new Lumixes is in sharp contrast to Canon and Nikon's mirrorless full-frames

Great video, but it was very distracting/difficult to watch the close up shots of Jim, given the camera was out of focus!
Thanks Robert! Really intrigue about this camera and perspective from a still wedding photographer.

Great Video and Info. Please confirm my existing Godox flash system (AD200/TT685O/XPro) will work with the Lumix S1?

can't wait to get my hands on the S1
Does S1 has tiltable display?
Man, Jim knows his lighting.
He sure does. It's not often that people teach me things about lighting these days, but just in our discussion he was teaching me things that I had never considered, it was extremely humbling.
Robert Hall Photography It’s also great to listen to two super talented guys from my hometown.
Jim's Close up is a bit soft !
What's the camera on him that keeps wandering focus?
It's not that it's wandering, it's that it's on me and cropped and he's further back than I

Yeah, i'm really going to try and work with him more in the future cause he's such a wealth of knowledge.
This what I call a review no bullshi* .A guy who actually earns a living and goes out there and does it

Wrong. Lighting, direction, people skills, composition, would still all separate people.
What?..Uh no...for a number of reasons for example...How are you going to do any flash work with video clips? Not possible. This is a silly post.
Robert Hall Photography of course, and this will always be true. But still, to another degree, so is what I said.

No fully articulating screen is a deal breaker
