"yo call me an Xbox I'm useless and trash I'm going to shit you that in a few years" was the most gibberish sentence I've ever heard of my life given to how fast you said it😅.
JEJDJSJDJDJDJ
xbbox users are crying rn lmao
I can never trust anyone who says Yuji Uekawa's modern art is bad. Sure it may not be like how it was during the 2000s but it still looks so good and just oozes with personality. This ain't a Yamamro situation where you can see the art gradually go down in quality, Uekawa's art is still fire. Also Mr Fadel what are you doing wearing a hoodie during the summer you crazy lmao
Sonic Rush took it even further! :D
DONT TRUST THEM
9:15 the sudden cut 😭
10:52 bro really said "GYATTDAMN !!!"
but seriously though, Uekawa's art is incredible, love his work he's been doing for the series!
The adventure 1 pose will always be iconic there’s something about it just screams Sonic I love it 🔥
Honestly my favorite look is the sonic channel arts. It's a whole personal thing but I really like the desaturated colors and the sketchy outlines. Gives it a more candid casual feel. Like actually the line art is so fucking good. The little breaks in the lines and the "imperfections" from overlapping lines and the textured pen, it might just be because it's "not for a game" or whatever so it's less clean, but it adds so much to the vibe. Honestly a huge inspiration for the way that I draw.
U GET IT. SKETCHY OUTLINES AAAHH
I think the thing that I like the most about Uekawa's art is that it perfectly encapsulates Sonic's energy to me. Uekawa poses Sonic like he's always moving or always getting ready to move and it brings such energy and movement to a still drawing that it is perfectly repsentative of what Sonic is to me. I have yet to see anyone else capture Sonic's energy in the same way, truly raw
They need to bring him back as art director, everytime he is the games and characters “feel” like sonic
Uekawa-san’s artstyle for Sonic is my favorite especially when he drew the adventure pose, one of the most iconic shots in Sonic history. I also love that he does artworks for the Sonic Channel JP account, it’s so good and comforting to see. My favorite artstyle is the riders style.
Also 10:53
AYOOOO 😂😂
AAYOOOOO
the way uekawa draws Sonic's proportions are just perfect to me with both his adventure era and modern art
the goat
HE GETS IT
The real meaning of hip and cool came into being with Uekawa's redesign of the Sonic cast
Reminder that the "modern" design for the Sonic characters was created by Satoshi Okano. He also made thee art for Sonic Jam, Sonic Adventure 1.
Y'know what vibe some of Yuji's 2010 era Sonic artwork gives me? The Xerox era of Disney animated movies, where they used Xerox technology to save on production costs, resulting in the final lineart looking a lot more sketchy, as seen in films like The Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians.
It still looks absolutely amazing, as those films do, too.
The goat of sonic art period
I’m glad you made a video on this. I love this art, and words describe it. Love seeing how it evolved. The way the personalities capture the characters how 3D renders can’t is just great, especially Sonic. The way it’s drawn, I can see the emotions come out of the characters to their fullest. When happy, cocky, serious, etc. I hear Ryan and Jason when I look at his Sonic arts, because they capture the attitude that goes along with poses and expressions. Part of it is because that’s when a majority of this came out, but another is due to how they capture the emotions in the art perfectly in their roles, without looking at it, and with being attached to in game models. It isn’t just Sonic obviously, but he’s an easy example and with it being his franchise and all, sticks out like a sore thumb
U see the vision 🥹🥹
I love the Graffiti inspired Syle of Yuji Uekawa’s art of Sonic(especially from the early 2000s) and the expressive designs he gives to the rest of the cast like in the Sonic channel art pieces. Such a great Artist and my favorite art piece of his is definitely the Art of Sonic playing the Guitar for “Sonic Adventure music experience” cover
TESSSSSSSSA
2:30 is my fav cus it’s so clean and has finesse the way he made sonic pose like that in his ball form is so cool
Expressions are a big part of personality and how we see characters in our heads. Uekawa embodies the characters in his art like no other.
EXACTLY
11:33 The Cream one especially got me since it's rare for them to actually acknowledge the Advance Trilogy.
It is always such a joy when someone appreciates an artist's journey as their art progresses over time 🥰
YES
My BIGGEST inspirations when it comes to drawing Sonic characters has always been modern-day Uekawa and Tyson Hesse's styles. They're so cool, lively, and full of character. I remember someone on Twitter, when the intro for Dream Team came out, said that the style, most likely directed by Tyson Hesse as he provided the character sheets, took a ton of inspiration from modern Uekawa art, and I'm certain it was intentional.
I've ways loved and preferred the more angular style that Uekawa has adapted to recently. If anything, it was most likely how he would've drawn them to begin with, as he wasn't the main person behind MOST of the Adventrue-Era 2D artwork. Most of those renders were sketched, and probably inked, by someone else (can't remember name rn), and Uekawa only did the colors and shading, along with other details (I think). Around the time of Adventure, his art for other games was way more angular than those renders.
That's not to discredit what he DOES do, though, as he has made some bangers, and really captures what makes these characters so cool :))
(Though, I personally still love the Hesse style a bit more.. 😬)
This man truly understood what made Sonic so cool, and he was able to make him even cooler through his simple art showing the flexibility and wackiness of the franchise
bro I actually love this video. There is nobody that makes art like Yuji Uekawa and an appreciation post going over his art is something I needed, I cherish his artwork and wish he had more involvement with the newer games. One of my favorite pieces isn't even a crazy one but for Mario & Sonic at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Uekawa drew Mario in the Sonic art style and the main Mario artist drew Sonic in the Mario art style and both of them are together having a good time. I looooooooooooooooooove it so much even though it's simple
9:15 dawg... ☠️☠️
💀
His art was really GOATED and was really my childhood. The way he drew the cast is how I still envision them in my mind
MHM
Rouge is such a baddie YESSIR
10:53 GAWD DAMN!!!
6:38 As someone who's studied Sonic's game models, (and make renders with them) I think the critiscm with the quill size is conflated with the lack of any dynamic posing with them. Because a really big issue I've noticed on the Frontiers Sonic model isn't so much the fact that they're short but more so that they're so bunched together, and he always looks like he only has 2 quills whenever you're not looking at him from side profile. Uekawa's art is probably the most notable when it comes to the series' style just as much as it's design, and I hope we continue to see more for years to come
he at least needs to the box art for the next game, Each of his box arts are so fuckin iconic MAN!
now lets do one on tracy yardley. bro is the GOAT when i think of sonic archie /idw art
ONGOD
There are so many panels that are just so cool to look at. His work in IDW is good but he really shined in Archie. IDW is more so Evan and Adam.
she brings so much life to Sonic, the way she draws the characters is SO PERFECTLY DONE HOW TF
they all mostly look 3D, HOW, DOES, HE, DO IT
Spaz solos lmao
Yuji Uekawa is the GOAT of Sonic art. The shading, poses, lines-literally everything reflects Sonic’s too-cool-for-school personality in the early 2000s:
Uekawa is king at his craft. Genuinely love all his work and always make it a point to check Sonic Channel monthly for new character art from him.
My favorite art style is from... of course the box art for Sonic Adventure 2. Instant classic IMO. 🔥 😎
HELLL YES
Yuji Uekawa’s Graffiti Art Style for the Sonic series will always be Peak
Yuji Uekawa is legendary, I just love the stuff he puts out, his style feels so unique and iconic. Then even when he evolved his style and changed up things like being more rigid than curvy, it’s still so raw you can still feel that energy of sonic no matter what. Also 9:15 is crazy 💀
Seeing cool nostalgic artwork like this is a great reminder I was born in the right generation. I will always love the Advanced and Sonic Rush artwork.
MHMMM
We owe SO MUCH to Uekawa for what Sonic's style has evolved into and why we love it so much. One of my favorite works of his would have to be his old Christmas art of Sonic, Am, Knuckles,Tails, and some Chaos together. First saw it when I was a kid playing Sonic Mega Collection
U GET IT
Uekawa must redraw the rest of the classic characters (Mighty, Ray, Trip, Honey, the Hooligans and the Mechanix) in modern version.
I love his art so much! Sonic should be cool like THIS!
SO GOOOOOD
Imagine if the IDW comics were drawn by Yuji Uekawa. It would be a LOT of work from him but it would look so good
I absolutely love this, I did not know the extent of Yuji Uekawa's magic. Would love more highlight vids on the work of the masters.
IKR!!!
We DEAD TO RIGHTS NEED another Sonic anime but with this art style. Hell it's about time for another Sonic anime in general, it's been 20 years since Sonic X. Or at the very least a game like this.
yuji one of the main artists i look up to like HOW DOES HE DO IT
This video just makes me desperately want a new Sonic anime.
IK MAN
Broooo I need Uekawa back as lead designer bro those art pieces are too sick no matter what😭the SAUCE IS ALWAYS SAUCIN
😭😭
Need him to make the box art again for sonic games
PLZ BRO
uekawa sonic is peak sonic, the games should've been trying to replicate his style with cell shading instead of going the pixar route
Uekawa’s sonic jam artwork is very underrated imo. Not many ppl bring up the Jam art when talking about his art
And at 11:18 this art was used for the short sonic channel stories. The backgrounds relate to the story the characters in the story. They’re really good!
Seriously, why isn't this guy making the box art. YOU THINK I CARE IF ITS 3D? HIS ART IS INCREDIBLE!
IKR???
I think I'm one of the few people that prefer uekawa's modern art then to his old art. Not saying it's bad mind you, I love the adventure 1 and 2 art as someone who grew up with it, but something about his modern art that just does it for me.
NAH I FEEL U 1000%
Uekawa Sonic is HIM.
Wait a sec is that not the pose of terios the hedgehog (old shadow)
Yuji Uekawa really knows how to bring out Sonics pure ENERGY!! 💪💪
HES HIM
FOR ONCE SOMEONE AGREES WITH ME!!!
No one ever disagreed with this bro 😂
About what?
LMAOOOO
wdym for once?
was this not common knowledge
it weird you post this i was just looking through his stuff a few days ago and planning to buy the sonic art book pretty cool
😄😄
"the reason i love these pieces is that they remind me of why I love these characters" yeah bro I can tell from the rouge cut...
His artstyle for Sonic has always been my favorite and that has never changed cause I still love his art even now 💙
And I genuinely will never understand the weirdos who say he lost his sauce as artist , that has never been true sure he's made the occasional pieces in recent times that are just alright but like 98% of the art he has done is always good!
Also bro is gooning in this video 💀
Uekawa/Sonic Channel art has been killing it for years and it's sad how little influence I feel it has on the games. They should take a hint from Persona and utilize their talented artists better. Uekawa just gets what Sonic should look like. Sonic and friends never looked cooler to me ingame than with their Advance games sprites.
They gotta man…plz…
All Yuji Uekawa art style is my favourite no question
I WANNA LEARN TO DRAW LIKE THIS UAAAAAA✨✨✨
GOD I FUCKING LOOOOVE UEKAWA’S ART
I’ve replicated his art style for some artwork I did for SA1, SA2, Heroes and Shadow.
MHMMM
Gotta be my second favorite art style for sonic (my favorite is still riders absolute goated) but man they should do/use more uekawa style
YESSSSSS
This man cooked with these drawings
Boi what I sacrifice my wallet or soul for a Sonic tv show of a Yuji Uekawa style art or 2d Modern Sonic game/fighter with Yuji Uekawa art😭🙏. This is where Sonic n gang peak in terms of expression, adorable, n coolness. Not just Sonic, but even other Sega characters like Billy Hatcher, Amigo, etc. 3d model art looks aight but fr Yuji Uekawa art is just timeless/goated
9:15 hits the spot ngl
watching this while drawing is inspiring
I love his art!! Sega needs to get on top of that style.
At 9:35 is the COOLEST SHADOW ART I HAVE EVER SEEN
IM SAAYIIINN
OK, Shadow with a katana looks fucking raw as fuck.
RIGHT??
also richard elson is also my 2nd faviroute sonic artist. of sonic the comic fleetway
2:10 i miss these looks
Man
I would like for you to do this with Adam Bryce Thomas. Especially since there's been some controversy about him not being that good of an sonic artist which is wild, especially if you've seen some of the best panels in Sonic IDW were all mostly him.
AWSOME VIDEO, you should do a newer artist too I feel like Evan Stanley really shows what makes modern sonic cool in this era
YESS I WILL
Call me Xbox the way I waste my potential! Sup Fadel! Uekawa is THE GOAT, nothing else to add, I personally LOVE the SA1, SA2 era of artwork with the curvy lines and Y2K style inspiration! But as an artist myself I do understand the art evolution one may experiment... but the best part is that is still goated, for different reasons! I would love for him to come back and make box art for the main games! He gets modern Sonic and got the SAUCE!
i feel like the only reason why people get whiny about the muzzle and stuff is just because the stock models don't reflect how the sonic channel artists do things
ueakwa's dropped the supposed "curve" but he does it so it looks like a deliberate choice that makes him look sturdier (also notice the thicker limbs on sonic) vs. just being a technological limitation from 2008, sega pls give sonic team monies to make new models based on the GOAT's art
agree PLZ PLZ
Bro was flabbergasted 9:15
9:15 OH😈😈😈
Just saying a game with Yuji Uekawa's art style would go insanely hard
*TWO* voice cracks at the start is crazy 💀😭
JSJJDJDJDJX
THE GOAT CANNOT MISS
HELL YEA
This so so cool!!
IT IS
FAX
ONGOD
Sorry but where can I get this page with his artworks? I went to this wiki zone sonic page and it is only an article about him but no pictures
0:00 i mean..... bro spitting facts buttttt........ he aint wrong
ONGOD
Sonic is Love. Sonic is Life.
YES
YEAH HE IS 🔥🔥
9:15 10:52 BASED
10:51 damn he just like me frfr
FRFR
3:56 this is actually a recreation of a sonic 3d bast artwork
OHHHHHHAAA
The hand placements are different but it's pretty much the same pose, and it makes sense because okano did inspire Yuji uekawa a lot if you look at okanos sketches its almost a 1 to 1 copy
9:12 BLAZE HOUSEWIFE?????? 🛐🛐🛐❤❤❤
Cuz💀
Hate being a correct-Andy, but his name is pronounced "Oo-eh-kah-wah", not "Yoo-kah-wah".
I love his work in the 90s. It's obvious he was HEAVILY inspired by graffiti and street art. That's why there's barely any straight lines in any of his work for the Adventure games.
These are characters who bounce around and roll into balls. It makes complete sense to portray them as in that wild, curvy, modern (at the time) artstyle. Not only does it suit the characters, but employing an urban artstyle also helps usher the player into the whole concept of Sonic inhabiting a bustling, man-made, NYC looking metropolis.
;D
Hello Fadel ,Did you ever play SONIC OMENS ,which was made in 2020, it is really a good game, and Shadow has a really good character in this game, you should try it out sometime.
I have indeed LOL
10:52 Bro 💀
the voice cracks 😭🙏
😭
Sonic with a guitar (while cool) makes no sense. It has a locking nut screw holes at the neck, but no hole in the back of the guitar body for the wammy bar springs to be in. It’s a cursed image for people that are guitar nerds like myself.
HES HIM
Unpopular opinion:
Uekawa modern style is better than the adventure uekawa style
9:15 LMAAAAAAO
sksksksksk
Sweet artist 💙
Yoo i just finished sa2 for the first time
EYYY
what s better adventure sonic drawing . or toei sonic drawing
