I love this show, it is wonderful. It signifies what society needs more of today. It is great from a family stand point, meaning it can be watched by everyone. It is also good from a historical stand point. I love three things about this part of the pilot. 1. Mr Edwards is a good hearted, kind, crazy old bastard for tramping through that blizzaed, and falling in the lake just to give Mary, Laura and Carrie a good Christmas. 2. I love how Mary says "I'm going to save my stick of candy
If I had to pick one show to send around the world that would explain and exemplify the American spirit, it would be Little House. The sense of adventure, righteousness, and optimism in this show is so great, and Michael Landon is one of the greatest Ambassadors I could imagine. What a show, and boy does it make me proud of my American heritage.
what a classic i have my 10 year old son watching lhotp.wish they still made shows like this and what can anyone say about michael landon what a great guy rip
thanx so much for posting. I love this show. Makes me feel so good. I wish life were this easy. I could nt imagine what my kids would say if they got a cookie and mitts and a cup for x mas!:)
My son and I laugh so hard when we see this !! A cup. A peppermint stick A shiny NEW penny. A cookie sprinkled with white sugar. A pair of mittens. A couple of potatoes for the mother. "It was the best Christmas ever" !
Actually the pilot took place in Kansas. You can see Karen Grassle talking about it on the Video post From the 2007 Reunion. Also in the last Christmas epi. They flash back to the Pilot, and Ma says "Life was hard in Kansas, but good"
While Laura says "Not me, and bites hers immediately. It shows the differences between the two girls. 3. I love the looks on the Ingalls' faces when a almost frozen solid Edwards comes through their door.
Kariline is so much more pretty i watch this show everyday for months i was very small i used to watch it with my grandma my name is Mannie from Trinidad deganess village siparia jobity drive thank u
You're right, i thought i had read somewhere that Landon had limited her role, however i just recently found out that Melissa Sue Anderson wanted to be released because she did'nt feel there was any need for her character to remain on the show. Thanks for the info, i wish she had not felt that way but i guess it was inevitable that she leave, with all the hardship her character had faced on the show i only wish she had more happy times before she left.
Opps, I forgot this is the pilot episode, the Inscription I'm refering to is the one in the their house in Walnut Grove, I don't know what this inscrition says.
I wouldn't say time were simple. Times are simple now. The tin cups cost as much then, as a 100 tin cups would cost today. Times were very difficult back then and in reality most families broke up back then because of the stress of not knowing if you were going to eat, and if you were going to survive winter. Anyway, given a choice, I would not choose living in the 1800's.
yeah true..coz today some kids, gotta have the newest games, computer, movies, thats not cheap,if they dont get it then watch out,im glad i grew up with all that buut i didnt get any,my fam was happy for so little,no money at all, took years before they could get me a tv,im 26 livin, sweden girl,me and my sis,bro never complain.still happy, they couldnt spoil us
Everytime I watch it, I do NOT understand why Mr. Edwards has to be out there in his long johns... ============================ Because he is a character ROFL
Mr. Edwards really killed Carolym with kindness. The man helps build their home and provides her children with the only real gifts that received...all after she looked down her nose at him for behaving like a man and not a little girl!. Do we have egg on our face Mrs. Ingalls? I do believe so! While these stories are heartwarming, there is somone behaving badly in every episode. This episode it was Carolyn.
Mary was a beautiful child and grew up to become a beautiful woman, Melissa Sue Anderson was voted "Most Beautiful Woman on T.V" by T.V Guide in 1978. I enjoyed watching her character Mary, however after she lost her sight on the show, her character endured a great deal of grief and hardship. She lost her baby in a fire, had a miscarriage before that, her husband gets his sight back, then her role was put in the back burner and overshadowed by the "fictional" Albert character which was unfair.
probably because it is easier to move around in the water when you aren't wearing clothes. ever got in a pool or lake with clothes on? REALLLLY hard to move
would today's kids accept home-made presents? I doubt it. it's gotta be from the mall or latest "it" thing on t.v. less materialistic but more genuine love back then.
@ThePrincessBrenda yer FULLY! of course they'd grow a little. a beard isn't believable but that doesn't mean they didn't go through puberty. every1 gets a little hair everywhere.
@cadauctions31 i lyk her 2. idt her voice is annoying i don't mind it. itz not at all squeaky, ok maybz a little but she's like 8. and she doesn't have buck teeth just perfect teeth.
how many children do you know that would be satisfied with a tin cup, a penny and a stick of candy for christmas?
nothing is simpler now
THE ABSOULUTE BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!(and it was made before i was born)

I agree with you 100%. I feel that gifts should come from the heart and soul, and not from the wallet or pocketbook.

Maybe he wants to keep his clothes dry for when he gets to the cabin. Unfortunately though he falls in the river.
