She has to be regarded as legend cause she paved the way for a lot of females to be themselves not to mention she was the most raw and vicious female ever taken out men and women off the head skills was no joke
Everybody Shante mentions in this song is nice…. The valid point is that she was first, and she’s a battle rapper. In fact, all of her early songs were pretty much off the head and were basically one long verse that Marley would edit into songs.
@@lofietbrown2560 how much of her own shit did she write and did anyone write for her I always felt she had way too many talented dudes in her corner for her to have written all that shit
This QUEEN WAS AND IS NO JOKE. She destroyed her counterparts with ease. THE TRUE QUEEN OF HIP HOP. THERE'S NEVER BEEN ANYONE that can flow like this. We love you sister and thank you for not SELLING THE FU.K OUT.
This is absolutely THE MOST EPIC song in female rap history...the dissing will never be recreated...the lyrics...I mean Shante is just NUTTSSS on this...and wrote the whole thing with no sample!! This is, was and always will be an EPIC LEGEND in rap history!!!!🎉
That my friend is a bold ass statement. I'm not sure I agree with Ether, 2nd round knockout, ripper strikes back, hit an up, kick in the door, bomb first, no Vaseline, every diss joint made by Em....this track is the truth no doubt. I just think that's a bold and rather rash statement.
she basically got blacklisted for this song ...but grand daddy I.U. wrote these lyrics...so he got black listed. that's why he never blew up like he really should. he was a dope writer, but he messed up writing this. and blood was almost shed over this. queen latifah was highly respected, and had goons behind her.
"You better hurry and hop on a diet plan. And keep the pork chops out the frying pan." Yo, Roxanne Shanté went IN on Yo-Yo there. 💀💀💀💀💀☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
One of her best tracks. Wonder if this is why she was left out of VH1 Women of Hip Hop awards - all those she calls out were there that night. A legend.
.BIGGIE SMALLS .."Gimmie the loot" ...this was 1992 beat , flow attitude - lyric choice of lingo.. RECOGNIZE "-THE BIG "in it ...Big Mamma .Big Papa She gave Birth on this Respect .
Cookie Crumbler this was actually a recreate of Latifahs “mama gave birth to the soul train” and queen did come back after her with her debut song “can’t understand”
This is what you call a queen a raw authentic, organic, homegrown, no artificial nothing this is real Raw flavor at its best. She ran through them like a four-wheel drive and machetes on the front and cut everyone down she's the real deal Gone Girl!
Imma give her lyrical credit, .. I'm an 80's baby, and I'm From NJ, shante was ahead , because she started young, and in the 80's she was ripping, remember she was a single female artist.. salt and pepper was a two female group, sparky d was solo the other shante was single, you see didn't diss sweet t right..
When I heard this I thought it was something new, didn't know this was made back in the early 90's. You can hear tupac (round-and-round we go), latifah, and a bunch of other artist that came after this. This is where they got their flow?
If I was 1 of the 1's she was dissing,I'll politely just fess up....u kicked our azzes...PERIOD!!!I would give her her proos...tbis song rite!!!!it's no comeback...u can't comeback frm something like that...
Wow...alright...wow again. I had never heard about this young lady growing up...and I just read "Black Noise" which mentions Roxanne Shante, but limits her in the spotlight. Rather they highlight extensively the female rap artists that Roxanne so soundly blasts in Big Mama. Sounds like some more credit is due her. I am not a big fan of the swearing, just my own preference and age lol, but It is part of her story and her experiences which I or anyone could never discount, downplay or deny. But wow...so talented. As a teacher I marvel at the command rappers have over words and prose. It comes off so natural yet I realize the hard work that goes into creating a rap piece. I woud love to teach these skills to my elemetary students.
Damn why she never get the recognition she deserves. Thank you Netflix

She bodied them! Every verse was a punchline, just watched her Netflix biopic and seen she also birthed Nas. This woman will forever be untouchable.
