    Part 7: goo.gl/9KbQPq
    Part 1: goo.gl/KYSSPu
    ------------------------------------------
    In this clip, Roxanne Shante explained her experience being a teen mother. While there are many horror stories and statistics leading to the narrative that teen parenthood is a road to familial breakdown, Roxanne Shante's experience went surprising well. She said being a recording artist at the time made it possible to provide for her son while the responsibility of being a mother kept her away from over partying, smoking, and drinking.
    However, all wasn't well according to the Queens legend. She dealt with a period of domestic abuse at the hands of her son's father that eventually led to her being hospitalized. Roxanne Shante said that although she doesn't want to relive her abusive past, she understands the importance it has for young women having similar experiences.

      Shawn P. Im sorry that I haven't seen the movie, and that I was going off this snippet of her interview. But how good could her mother be if she was taking care of her sisters. I'm not trying to down play her mom but it is what it is. I totally get what you are saying as well.

      Shawn P. Her mother felt bad & bitter of the fact that her boyfriend ruined her future he took the money she worked hard for to move her family out of the projects after that she turned to drinking & Roxanne Shante felt that she had to stay out late, battle rap do whatever she had to do to take care of her family after her mother felt she was being disrespectful & disobedient that’s when things went left

      @AyesheIsAlwaysLovely 6 лет назад +4

      Latrise Nelson Some man ran off with her mother's savings ($20,000) and left her and the kids in the projects. After that she drank liquor all day, leaving Roxanne to raise her 2 sisters.

      Kang Izzo Risky Getting abused by the industry and tossed out and scammed is one. Getting your ribs broken by a pedophile is another. So many are quick to call a black womans justified anger, bitterness as if any normal person would just let it go. I can tell she's hurt still by the situations that happened to her.

    • @itzKingIzzo2U
      @itzKingIzzo2U 6 лет назад

      laylah li 1st thing if there wasn't no "industry" she wouldn't be able to get her story out there at all.. 2nd the relationship she was in started out as her choice and went bad, this is why you should mature before you enter that type of situation.. That's why they're age limits because your mind is of a child.. My mom and plenty of women been through far worse but bounce back.. I'm just appreciating her growth... Stop the black woman stuff,all people go through stuff especially women... Bitterness is selfishness, u just stuck to your own gripes

      Taya Amor. it actually was. there was a law, and I couldn't believe it at first, but the law was a man could divorce his wife but the woman could not divorce her husband....and get alimony or spousal support. or child support. and it was a law where if a man was beating his wife the cops could not intervene. watch the Tracey Thurman story.

      It's called battered women syndrome and lack of a support system. Instead of asking why women stay we should be dissecting why men think it's fine to hurt women like you and Roxanne and why other men come up with excuses for them.

    So profound, so deep, so inspirational. You ever hear someone speak from the heart and know that they are for real? This lady is for real! You are beautiful inside and out and your strength is outstanding! Thank you so much for your contribution to hip hop! You were one of the defining people that made hip hop what it is. I'm listening to you hear and on SiriousXM and you are the real! You are the same person on wax as you are in reality and that is incredible!! And now you are holding up the culture as ambassador and alumnus and sharing your story which is so moving! I know you're speaking other women but honestly you are speaking to all of us cause I just can get over how humble and real you are! Truly, truly inspiring!! Special thanks to djvlad for the interview! It's so nice to hear from our hip hop heroes especially since the older hip hop generation only got news from word of mouth or magazines. All we had back then mainly was the diss tracks that gave us our impressions of how it was and we lived with that impression for years!

    Big ups to Queen Roxanne!! The movie was ALLAT! I just watched it again last night.. Secondly Sis those glasses are ALLAT 🙌🏾.. Just had to throw that out there.. True definition of a hustler that stud her territory and made moves, she didn’t let anyone step to her PERIOD! 🖤🖤🖤

    +Vlad Also, for the next interview you upload with Godfrey, you really need to ask him about what his overall thoughts are on New York rappers trying to sound like Southern rappers nowadays and go really in-depth with him about that. That would be really interesting to see what he has to say about that. Especially since he's really into East Coast Hip-hop as well. BTW stop making all of those interviews with him so short.

    Man my grandmother tells stories of how she was abused, and I grew up watching my mom fight her SOs. I was a bit throwed off since childhood, but I always promised myself that if a man was to put his hands on me, I’d be sending him to God. Of course that’s a bit hazy in the eyes of the law, so I settled for sending whoever to the hospital. I’m just not the type, can’t see myself getting abused.

    I feel like the reporters questions were very intrusive. *”well how bad did it get”* like what the hell is wrong with you sir. She’s not a specimen and bringing up such sensitive issues so bluntly can bring back trauma.
