She wasn't just the best 'female' rapper, she was one of the greatest rappers, period. I grew up with Shante (I mean musically, not personally) and I've always had the utmost respect for her. Even more so after watching this.
Intricate, what, like really complicated and hard to work out, or integral, as in important, cardinal? It's just that people usually use the phrase "integral part" and not intricate part, perhaps you don't read much and have only heard it being used on the television? That's usually the reason people make mistakes like that, from not reading much and mishearing things from TV, instead of seeing them written down. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
@@Oscuros this is exactly why I still sometimes look up words before I use them in written language. In school we had context clues which taught you how to figure out what a word meant by how it is used. Maybe that is what happened. You know that the English language is said to be the most difficult to learn? This is probably one reason why. Thank you for pointing this out. I honestly appreciate knowing so I don't make that mistake in the future. My point would definitely be mistaken. Although, it could've come off a little harsh.
She is somebody who is saying some shit that other people have said is not only untrue but also outrageous. Now those other people could be sexist pigs who could never accept a female champion or they could be telling the truth! Seems like if she was real somewhere they'd be proof. Yeah she had a hit record but so did "right said fred"
She did that song ALL FREESTYLE FROM THE TOP OF HER HEAD!!!! You see, that's talent, not these manufactured girls today!!! Skillzzzzz! Amazing woman. I've been a fan since day one and I truly love who she has become. God bless her.
I loved this interview. I’m a 70s baby so I grew up on hip hop and I always loved loved Roxanne Shante as a rapper. It was so good to hear how she is doing now and she can believe that not only were her lyrics from her albums sampled but so were here words of wisdom from this interview! God has blessed her and she knows it and is not afraid to walk in it.
Wow - one of hip hops most important songs was completed, start to finish in 7 mins. Shante’ story is truly inspirational, to every person. Thanks for the interview and upload
Growing up in the south the Roxanne diss battles were the first hip hop records that got major play on the radio stations. For a lot of people outside of New York she was their introduction to the battle culture of hip-hop.
Much love to her. I love Rox. Nothing but respect for her. I can't have compassion for those mothers that can't put their child first after hearing Rox experiences. No one can ever talk about Roxanne. She deserves her props.
“Original internet troll”??! Nah. How about “Trendsetter”, “Trailblazer”, “Legendary “, “ Genius “, “Gifted” or “Before Her Time”!!!! With some Respect behind it!!
I thought that was disrespectful as hell. Along with the "seeing mommy get beat up by daddy questions". His choice if words when asking questions can be very distasteful.
Yes, I remember when they put rap on 60 minutes because they didn't understand what it was. It truly is a blessing to see how something began. These young people today treat it like it's been here forever. It really was something different and oh DAMN! how it made you feel when you heard it. Hearing hip hop downtown blasting out the sneaker stores just made you feel so damn good. It was like that feeling you get when you got a crush on a cute guy in the summer time. Nothing like it. I'm from Newark, NJ. and lived in Brooklyn.
It wasn't 60 minutes but that program is the reason why a certain group suddenly started claiming they "helped invent" Hip Hop.Meanwhile the real culture had been at it alone for almost 10 years & they'd been mocked the entire time.Shante is a Hip Hop baby which is why she's the best whether non factors can handle it or not❤️
I disagree with Curtis Blow. As talented as Roxanne was. She would have been taken seriously. Her talent spoke for itself, she was marketable💵 And she had a good head on her shoulders to match. His reasoning was B.S In my opinion I think he was intimidated by a young woman with so much talent Who could go toe to toe with grown men, and actually WIN
What an icon and a legend at her own time I have alot of respect for this woman other female rappers should do a tribute to her. Please give her a star in the walk hall of fame. She shouldn't be forgotten. She was before queen latifah and mc lyte and yoyo .after beat street. She appeared
That movie was real & raw.. I wish your whole life was on there... I cried & laughed.. I love your stance and I feel as a kid you still knew who you were. I am not a fan of hip hop but I came by the movie cuz someone else watched it. I went back and rewatched it and cried and laughed again.. Role model you are and a fan of mine you are now. It's amazing you made it through but so Happ you are an inspiration to all ..in my book... Hope this reaches your eyes. Take care...
Any rap music artist or enthusiasts should be taking notes from this interview, Roxanne is giving you some Hip-Hop history. This woman deserves far more respect n recognition for her contribution to the culture.
I'm glad she got her money now and more. I'm not an artist but I've heard of alot of music artists being taken advantage of. The great thing about the sacrifices of these artists now, is that they can hear their stories and hopefully equip themselves with knowledge. I hope any upcoming or current artist learns about the business of the music industry.
@@candimccurtis1521 I'm a hip hop head from the beginning. He was a hater for that shit! But I can't lose respect for him. They all played their part. Some better than others. Old school is my favor. But that was some whack shit he did!
She's so cool! I just watched Roxanne, Roxanne! I grew up in St. Louis on Three 6 Mafia in the 90s but Nas was my favorite NY rapper. Awesome to know she mentored him, no wonder he's so nice!
Damn Kurtis, hip-hop has the respect in the streets and was going to blow up anyway. I don’t buy the idea that a 16 year old couldn’t represent hip hop. Elvis just turn 18 when his first hit record. Still love Kurtis though, but Shanté is the Queen of Hip Hop
I remember in the early 80s in the UK getting the electro albums, the first thing i looked for was to see if there was a new Roxanne tune. See is truly hip hop royalty 🙌 👏

Salute to the Queen Roxanne for finally getting her due props. She is an intricate part of Hip Hop! #flowofwisdom
I was 7 or 8 yrs old white boy in Dayton Ohio hearing utfo and Roxanne for 1st hip hop experience.
