5 hours and 57 minutes of a great movie. 2 minutes of end credits. Gotta miss the good old days.
And not having 30-45 minutes of trailers and or studio self congratulations before the movie even starts. Yup, the old days.
Both of those things are because it’s not a movie and was shown on television. Instead of cool movie trailers shown only at the beginning , there were a ton of commercials shown every ten minutes and they were ultimately why The Stand was even made into a miniseries. Nothing is free and the past wasn’t magical
@@cody8804 You are correct. EVERY 10 minutes. lol. And I wouldn’t say “magical.” But definitely had it’s charms over today. Some things are better today and some were better in yesteryears. I’m a little partial to the memories though. Lol
Was a mini series and tapes needed to be at the ready back then
you got that right, man I miss the days of great movies and writing.
Tom Cullen, the most endearing character in this movie. Being intelligent isn't everything, being pure at heart and innocent is a blessing in itself.
M O O N That spells Tom Cullen❤
This "Cullen" agrees with your post.
More than one type of intelligence. He's got the type that counts.

Better to be feeble minded than EVIL MINDED
One of my favorite Stephen King adaptations. I remember watching this whole miniseries when I was in high school and being so excited to see the next episodes. With this 4K quality it’s even better. This is the best quality I’ve ever seen it! Adds a whole new life to the film. Happy to find this here! Watching this now after having gone through a pandemic adds whole other levels of intrigue.
It was extremely well cast. King movies don't always get an ensemble like this.
@PraetoriumAquilae Yes. Everyone absolutely nailed their character.
so after watching both adaptations back to back these last few days, this one takes the cake. This one just seems like Kings work is jumping off the page, captures the whole point of the battle between good and evil, not worried about jump scares or tension just for the sake of tension, but actually captures the emotion of what an all out battle of wills between good and evil. What a show.
Stop trying to be a critic. You are just making an azz of yourself.
Thats cause he also wrote the screenplay
I agree this version captures the journey The stand the novel was
The new series was jumping all over the place & missed the entire journey of the story
He had to condense the book. It was over 400 pages too long according to the publishers. Then he came back and pushed through the entire book.
@@Jagg61when he was high on cocaine he was writing extremely lengthy novels while up for days. In some instances you can even tell where the psychosis was setting in aligning with his writings.
Who’s watching in 2024
I remember being a little disappointed at They cast rob lowe As nick. But then I saw him in it and he was heartbreaking. He was such a pure soul. Oh god i've got To sit down and watch the whole thing this weekend. Gotta get back Everybody enjoy and I'll be thinking about all of you.Sitting down and watching it this weekend too. I've always thought the best thing Tv was that we were all sharing experience at the same time. It is exciting and it's comforting. That's the power of t v. I don't think I'm giving anything away by telling you. That there was a show called sisters many years ago and one of its characters was played by a guy named george clooney. And yes, oh my God, so cute. But i'm not giving anything away at this point that he got killed trying to help someone else. We didn't know it was gonna happen at least I don't remember there being a telegraphing. It just happened. I was sitting by the TV with a box of climax crying my eyes out and at 1059 or 11 o'clock. The phone rang and it was my mom. She was checking in to see if I was okay. He was such a great character on that show. But then he went To e r and broke a lot of more hearts.
Sounds like covid doesn’t it?

This still stands as the best version ever. It's pretty relevant to our time too. Biblical significance.
You are correct about that
Maybe a few years ago
Every generation thinks it's going to be the last. People have been waiting for the end of the world for two thousand years. It still hasn't happened. Why don't we stop looking for signs of the apocalypse in old books of fairy tales and historical fiction and take care of ourselves and this planet.

I read the book and I said there is no way you can make a movie out of this because of all the characters and all the angles but they did and it was so close to the book it was amazing
Yeah I'll be honest I didn't have super high hopes for it but feel like it was a lot better done than the 2020 version. Obviously covering everything in a almost 1200 page book would be basically impossible but there were surprisingly few jarringly wrong things. Like it's been a while since reading it but I'm fairly certain Nadine was supposed to die just after New York right her surviving past there has just felt really wrong so far on my watch through so far
@@noodlelynoodle. That was Rita Blakemoor not Nadine. He didn't even meet Nadine in the book until he was up in New England. I think it was Vermont but not sure.
@@elweese ahhhhhhh ok yeah I got confused cause of the pills

I love his books. The Shining, The Stand, IT, all scared the bejesus out of me. All of his books are scary, creepy, and spine tingling, skin crawling. But those 3 made my hair stand on end. Still do. The Stand is too prophetic for words.
the Dark Tower series is my favorite Stephen King story, it's got lots of characters from his other books, the Priest from Salem's Lot, Randall Flagg from the Stand is one of the main bad guys, it's so good
@@Corn-Pop. My favorite series, also. They really screwed up the movie version, though.
Interesting enough: The Imp that is Randal in the 'Stand' is the same Imp in many other King novels. IT. Dark Tower. Ect. It is a force of evil beyond time, place, & realities that serve the C.K.
King is a creep
This movie always brings tears to my eyes. Then and now. Hats off to Stephen King. Writer and actor. The only one that can make you cry and other times scare the hell out of you. Genesis.

I read the book in Jail. 2003, after this movie was made. I didn't see it but the book l got had a black and white pencil drawing each chapter and now after watching this version l can remember each chapter's depictions and the one that stuck with me the most was of "Trashcan Man" on his ATV 4 wheeler carrying the bomb..
Loved the book and enjoyed this movie just as much. Much appreciation to Stephen King and his incredible mind..

When an upscale is properly applied to older film footage or old video game assets, it can really be a beautiful thing.
Thank you for taking the time to make and upload this.
Couldn't agree more! Glad you enjoyed it. I originally enhanced the movie for my personal use but it was so good I had to share it with you all.
Nick, Tom and Stu, and the Judge will always be my favorite gentlemen characters in the stand. Mother Abigail is my favorite lady . Just a sweet soul having to face horrible odds
In the early '90s I remember seeing TV commercials for the Stephen King library. I was only 12 or 13 years old, but I convinced my parents to sign me up for them and the first book that arrived was The Stand. I had no idea what to expect when I began reading it, but over the course of about a month I felt like I had been on a rollercoaster. Although this movie was a fairly good adaption, I don't think it's possible to make a perfect adaption because the narrator in the book was such a vital "character" that was able to explain the other character's emotions so much better than any actor could portray.
The clarity and smoothness on this version is fucking brilliant. Makes it look 10 years younger! Thanks for this bro! Also this version is way better than the 2021 version people ❤

Stephan King reads Revelation once, says oh I have a book idea...
I would have focused on Rev 2.9 and 3.9. That's what's going on now anyway.
The concept of an apocalypse, predates that squirrelly set of "visions", many prior cultures have a story version, though King is quite biblical in this one

i jst want to say, this is the best hd upgrade ive ever seen. and this looks amazing. just wow.who ever did the switch over should be given a award.
One of the best roles Ray Walston performed. He was epic.
Say what you will about the remake. The original was 10 times better.
That’s an understatement. This is so much better. All these producers ruining Stephen King books constantly. The most recent version of “The Stand” is unbearable(couldn’t get passed the first episode), but I will have to say “The Dome” is the worst. It’s such a great book with so much personality and character and they completely butchered it beyond belief. Couldn’t even get half way through the first episode.
PRODUCERS… This is why these books are so amazing, stop putting your own goofy spin on it and produce the movie identical to the book. That’s what we want and how it’s intended to be
Let's see. In 94 I was 16. I'd read The Stand quite a few times when this came out. I was so excited I walked 5 miles to my friend's house every night to watch it with her and her family.
The worst was The Dark Tower. Books that spanned more than 30 years to write. It was a backhand slap of an interpretation. The Dark Tower series, IMHO, is one of the most creative works in American literature.
Absolutely agree just watched remake HATED IT, found original cuz I gotta get that remake outta my head. Lol
Remake was crap. They miscasted almost every character, turned Vegas into a whole drug kingdom when Flagg wouldn’t allow that in the book. Josh Boone and Benjamin Cavell are talentless. I hope Hollywood doesn’t screw up The Long Walk movie which is another King novel. Been waiting forever for that to get an adaptation
Would have been 100X better if Molly Ringwald was recast. She was horrible as usual
Thank you SO MUCH for posting. I ain’t paying Amazon $5 for their version that doesn’t even look as good as this one here 😉. You’re the best N v.3!

When I got a job in the Philippines it was very boring staying home during down time so I started reading King and read all of his books up to 1986. Covid was a con trick perpetrated by the WEF

The different comments about wearing masks were spot on🤣
That's what freaked me out. King predicted something before the Simpsons
Please. only about 1 percent of the total number of people who caught "Covid" died from it. And thats world wide. At least those countries that reported to the World Health Organization . Where as the "Super Flu" from the stand, killed a heck of a lot more. I had Covid, but because I had no other underlying health problems, and was not a smoker, I got over it. Took me three weeks, and some meds.
