Absolutely Pure 80's mind candy!!! Back when movies were around 5 bucks, and the popcorn and cokes was 6.00 with refills...
Back when Rutger Hauer became the greatest villain in cinema, and a household name!
Back when Ronald Reagan was President, and the Democrat Party wasn't completely taken over by the Communists quite yet!
hehe ..i dont know about rutger hauer !!!
You guys finally got it. This movie is a classic, Rutger Hauer at his best.
This movie got me when watched first time, that was almost 38 years ago. After that, Rutger Hauer has been one of my best favorite actors. I miss you, Rutger...
(an old Japanese fan)
Still remember the first time I ever saw this movie. It was on a 13 inch black and white TV my grandfather gave to me. The intensity of the storytelling still got through that old zenith 😳 I now recall even on a black and white TV that explosion scene with the car driving off on fire partially. Was pretty spectacular.🤯
Rutger Hauer was one of the best in his time. As was C. Thomas Howell. This is a great example. Back when they knew how to do movies.
@@dan6442 his eyes always steely blue stand out
John Rider....
Never seen a Rutger Hauer movie that wasn't good. This one was great. Thank CF.
Rutger Hauer, one of the best villians ever - R.I.P.
This movie is very underrated. It was and still is a masterpiece in my opinion.
No it's not. Back in 1986, it was considered one of the best movies that year. Even Siskel and Ebert said it was one of the best films of 1986.
Absolute classic. 10/10. The the reason why I never picked anyone up EVER!
Such a master piece. They don't make em like this anymore.
I saw it the year it came out and several times since. It's one of those films that stays with you.
A man who no longer cares , is the most dangerous man.
Rutger Hauer played it well.
He is the Joker
The film likely took inspiration from Duel, cat and mouse game where the psychotic killer wanted to be killed by somone he deemed worthy
Saw this film a long time ago. Still scares the crap out of me to this day. I learned my lesson to never pick up a hitchhiker and never hitch a ride. Thanks for uploading.
criminally underrated, whoever has not seen this film has an educational gap
I've always thought this film was underrated - but I also always thought this movie should've ended with the kid thumbing his way down the road.
This is a great movie. I saw it when it came out. It was terrifying and still ranks as one of the best of the genre.
I haven't seen this one in years! Thank You Creature features for showing this horror gem.
I haven't seen this forever. I feel like more than 15 years. Pretty good. I'm one of the few that also liked the remake. I like them both. Thank you for this opportunity to watch this movie again. 👋🙏👍😎
An absolute classic. Well done guys on getting this movie for us 😊
LITERALLY ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE FILMS. C. Thomas and Rutger set the bar high on this one.
Yeah, this film is one of the best suspense films ever made I think. Rutger Hauer👍👍 plays such an awesome role.😎
You've got to be joking.
I saw this movie when I was 22. Just watched it last night I'm now at 60 it's still as good as when I first saw it. Hauer does an amazing performance
RN. I was 24! Siskel &Ebert hated it!!!
@brittoverbaugh4035 Siskel and Ebert got this one way wrong. This is a cult classic and C. Thomas Howell would go on to take on Rutger Hauer's character and become the most evil villian in television series history as "The Reaper" on the show "Criminal Minds".
Rutger was cold asf in this one and its quite refreshing! 😂😂💜💪
I ABSOLUTELY mean this when I say; Rutger Hauer plays one of the greatest villains in CINEMA HISTORY in this remarkable film!
Yes, he reminds me of Anthony Hopkins.
What a classic. Hauer was awesome in this.
Been waiting forever to find "The Hitcher" again. Saw it when it first came out. Rutger Hauer at his best. This was just after Bladerunner (my fave movie all time) and here he got another chance to show how brilliant of an an actor he was. Takes on the bad guy roles like nobodies business. Not stupid comic book character or AI crap.A fellow Dutchman too boot. RIP Rutger. One of your best. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Rutger will for always live in the heart of us all.
Still waiting to see him shine again in The Game. Its out there somewhere RUclips
And then he went on to his finest role - that bloke who did the Lurpack adverts.
Rutger Hauer gives a Brilliant performance. C. Thomas Howell is Excellent and Jennifer Jason Leigh is Outstanding.
RIP Rutger Hauer
Holy crap, I had no idea he was dead! RIP Rutger
One of my all time favourites and the movie that introduced me to Rutger Hauer, *R.I.P.*
WOW, what a great movie! I had a crush on Rutger Hauer back in the day. He was fantastic!!
Thank you Creature Features for streaming this very good movie. 👍💫
Saw this when it came out and was scared for months. And, as a kid, I loved Creature Feature. Bring it back, please!! RIP gorgeous Rutger. Such a beautiful man.
He's my favourite Dutch Actor...Rutger Hauer..❤may he R.I.P.
He really was one of Hollywoods best actors ever. He just had this intensity about him that drew you in. He will always be missed
They dont make movies like this anymore...love it
I still remember when I saw it the first time. I was blown away, what a gem!
What do you consider a bad movie then?
So many ungrateful people in the comment section, if you don't like it don't watch, it's simple 😜Thank you for the upload ☺
The young and the feeble.

An underrated cult classic. Rutger Hauer is terrific, menacing & a force of nature. A storm is coming, beware of whom you pickup on the road... 🚗.
Great film, you're doing the lords work posting all these classics for us night owls.
true...its 3 a.m. now...the demonic hour! lol
This is a cool, intense psychological thriller ! Love Rutger & C Thomas, Jennifer ! xx
It has been decades since I've watched this. Freaking amazing!
New subscriber and fan
I'm watching from California. The last time I watched this movie was when I was living on Oahu in 1986. My, how time flies.
Thank you Creature Features. This is a real treat! Sat here on a cold stormy UK Saturday, sitting next to the radiator for warmth, and this. It's all good!
Not sure why the hate
Felt well filmed with the acting, soundtrack & thriller plot just like Duel.
Suspenseful
"The Hitcher"(1986) is an action mystery thriller road movie masterpiece! This is the best movie of all time for this Kind!
Always liked Rutger Hauer. He was really good in Lady Hawk & many other movies! RIP Rutger, miss you !!!!!!!
I have not seen this movie in a *VERY* long time, well over 30 years in the very early 90's. Thank you so much for putting this up here. My family and I taped this on VHS back when it came out on HBO in 86/87 time period probably like so many other people out there taped so much on VHS.
We watched it a couple of times after that before that VHS tape and hundreds of other VHS tapes were put in boxes somewhere for years and eventually thrown away.
This movie truly scared me and as a 12-year-old in 1986 all of this seemed 100% as close to reality as possible and so well acted out. You could feel the terror and anticipation of so much and all of the cast were excellent in this. The desert scenery has something that I can't pin-point. All that comes to mind is that desert is so calming.
I believe the actor who played the police officer at the end who Thomas Howell left on the side of the road was the same actor who played the Smurl father in the 1991 made for TV movie "The Haunted."
Sorry for the ramble everybody. I miss the 80's and early 90's so bad as I just turned 50 years of age in mid-September 2024. Someone brought it to my attention that there is more life behind me than in front of me. Yes, I will admit to anyone out there reading this, that mortality is something I fear very much and for so many reasons. We all have dreams, goals, regrets and only so much time and health to work towards any given thing while also fighting the regular burdens in life.
God bless you all to find whatever you are looking for.
Jesus, I’m 52 didn’t bother me until now. Thanks.

Gorgeously shot flick and a textbook example of suspense done right; exactly how it is NOT done these days.
Very true, good filmmaking is almost like a lost art form now...
Rutger Hauer did an incredible job here.
Rutger hauer is absolutely epic in this performance playing a psycho he jumps off the screen he's so freaking perfect
I remember this was my worse nightmare and Rutger Hauser really scared the crap out of me. He was so convincing in the beginning of a madman and you can feel being trapped in that car and this guy is definitely insane.
Rutger was an amazing actor. Tow of my favourite movies was this and Blade Runner where his portrayal of the characters had been flawless.
Hard to sink in this was an 80s movie.
Deserves a cult status for this movie
Saw it in the theater when it came out. Left quite an impression than. Still does today.👍🏻
The scenes with Rutger Hauer and C. Thomas are the best. The tension between the two and Hauer's psychopathy are perfect.
Thanks Creature Features. That one was actually really good. 👍🏻
This film was great! I really don’t understand all the negative comments 🤷♂️
Me either. Absolutely love it always have
Because most are current generation that don't know shit about classic movies

There wasn't enough diversity in it for the younger generation, lol.
@@dazzamcg2369 Or good movies.
One of my all-time favorites. I remember watching The Hitcher as a child in the 80’s. I always loved Rutger Hauer. ❤❤❤
Me too. He's from my parents native country the Netherlands and you can't detect the slightest hint of a Dutch accent. So underappreciated. This film is my fave of his apart from the small role in Bladerunner. 👌🏼👍🏼
I was obsessed with this movie when it came out!! Love it still to this day
I have aways loved this movie thank you guys for posting it on here 😊
Classic Rutger, love it!
My supervisor who’s a good 30 years older than me or so sent me here, we’ve bonded through love of horror n weird movies and him knowing I’ve really been more interested in olders/classics recommended this movie and sent me to this channel! Boy becomes a man by way of paternal serial killer...an absolute classic of a film! Rutger was great.
Rutgers Hauer was a great type cast villian! I'll bet this was his favorite!
He said Blade Runner himself, I'm sure this is close though.
@LarryFleetwood8675 He'll yeah
You absolute Legends. This is one of the best Movies to come out of the 80's. An undeniable classic.
Wow. The last time I saw this movie I was stationed in an Army detachment in southern Turkey. We received “new” movies on Beta tapes. Good times. 😂
Good times🎉🎉
I remember watching this movie in the theatre when it came out! It was so scary and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. It’s a lot more frightening seeing it on the big screen sitting in the dark. I don’t think it did that good at the box office, but it sure was a very memorable film. Rutger Hauer is so handsome. It was very enjoyable to watch it again tonight. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it. Thanks for posting it.

This one is a classic. one of Howards best movies
Can you believe I've actually seen this movie. It's been a long time. So long that it was at a now defuncted drive-in as a double feature with Maximum Overdrive. The Hitcher is like a bad penny. He just kept coming back.
That's a good combo for a drive in. Start with King, make it a party, then turn down the lights a bit more for the Hitcher.
Remember watching this so many years ago when a lot younger, scared me then and still scary now 😮 Rutger was an incredible actor and a really nice guy, also a great sense of humour. 😊
Amazing movie, perfect pace and story and amazing acting by Rutger Hauer

Seriously? What other movies have you watched 'till now?
I remember staying up late in the 80’s, stealing cigarettes from my parents, watching this movie on HBO that was provided by the good ol’ cable tv “black box”. If you were born in the 80’s, you definitely had a black box in your home. 📺

He showed more respect in blade runner...except wen he whacked his creator ..father
This horror film definitely will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end !

The whole cast was great. Yes, it's a little cheesy here and there, but Rutger Hauer is so fun to watch.
I remember this.
I was 9 in 1986 so let’s say that I watched this when I was 13 in 1990.
My uncle was 4 years older so he’d get the films and babysit me and we’d watch all sorts of horrors with our £1 Dr Pepper/lemon & scampi niknaks and marathon combo..
American werewolf in London scared me big time
I'm the same age (1977). I remember watching this on HBO or Cinemax in the late '80s late one night and it freaking me out. No way my mom would've let me rent it. She would get mad when I would repeat lines from Police Academy.😂
Silver Bullet is another great 80s movie
