- We are in San Felipe, Mexico and showing you a swap meet in an ex pat community and life in a Mexico town. There are a surprising amount of Americans and Canadians who retire here to live affordably.

We moved to SF to stay 2 years ago. Rent a beautiful house in town and love the convenience. We exist on social security and couldn't afford to stay in the USA. Viva Mexico.
You certainly can't afford it with Butler in your pocket .
Can I ask what you pay all-in per month for a house in town, with utilities, internet, etc? I'm on a modest Soc.Sec. retirement fixed income. Also best websites(?) for local rental accommodations. That would be awesome to get this info first hand from you.
Thanx, Laird.

@@jimtucker1631 Wow!
2nd comment after finally visiting San Felipe. Absolutely loved it there. Wasn't desolate after all. Part of me wanted to buy a beach house and live there. Your video was so well done but didn't actually show all the best parts. I'm glad I got to see the place in person. Hope you post more.
Beautiful footage with the drone! You do a nice job, Ben, as always!
Used to stop at San Felipe to get ice in the late sixties on fishing trips farther south below Puerto Citas. My have things changed! These were quaint little villages back then that were visited mostly by fishermen after tatoaba and other sport fish.
love all your videos, thank you so much for sharing. beautiful travels for us that are not able to,
Ross and Marilyn here. We have been full time expats living in El Dorado Ranch, San Felipe, eight years now. Even through the hot summers. LOVE IT!!! Thank you so much for the great video. We're looking forward to the one on the tour of EDR. Anyone interested in good and bad and cost of living here, look us up on Facebook.
I messaged you @ross!
I gave up my El Dorado Deed back in late '90's, but now I'm retired I'm thinking of moving there again, but not to EDR. A town rental would suit me fine.
Do you still live in San Felipe? Has it changed much? How is the community? What is the hottest does it get?
Thanks for the video, planning to visit in July 2019.
Thank you so much for this video! Although I have spent lots of time in San Felipe I learned so many new things from this video! I have to stop being so scared and sheltered when I go down next time.
You are very welcome. Maybe we will see you down there.
Very cool. The first video your that I watched was your how to RV to San Felipe about a year and a half ago.
Thanks, we enjoy hearing that.
Great video bro! .......I love San Felipe so much that i submitted my paperwork for early retirement and moving down there for good,i married a girl who was born in San Felipe and God blessed us with a beautiful baby girl,we built a lil 2 bedroom hous 3 blocks from El Malecon,i will be living there by March permanently :) ......San Felipe is just a beautiful little community,i just love it and i will probably living there 'till my last day!.......Thanks for making an sharing this video! I really appreciate it :) CHEERS! :)
Thanks! Congrats on starting a new chapter in San Felipe.
Good video brother
Thank you
baja is great. especially san felipe. have owned down there for 14 years, theres alot of untrue comments on here
wats a good income? in dollars to live comfortably
Thanks for a great video. Did you ever get to video tour El Dorado Ranch? We would love to see that
Beware when buying property or starting a business in Mexico. You have to have a lawyer who specializes in that. People say that u should rent for at least 3 months to see if u really like the place first.
Good advice. As a Mexican national, I have seen first hand the legal complexities associated with buying property in México (baja specifically).
Hi
Was back in Alaska for a week to take care of some business. Went to Seward and thought of you. Nice to see snow covered mountains-different from Tucson.
One of these days we will meet up!
Woohoo! Hogan is a movie star. Cool video, I too live in SF.
I loveee San Felipe, my family has a house at Pete’s camp, which I’m pretty sure is near your area because I’ve seen a golf course before! I also like to watch these videos because I have to wait to go back to Baja
Lucky! I love Pete's camp ✨
Dune Buggy trip looked like fun but I guess it Depends :)
I just came back from a week in Chihuahua, Chihuahua. I loved it. Exponentially better infrastructure and food. No beach though.
Been there many times. Very nice, enjoy Baja.
We miss San Felipe.
I don't know about retiring there ... but the more videos I see from the San Felipe area the more I'd like to head down for a few weeks to start. I generally travel alone now, but think I would prefer to have someone else with me. As a Canadian I would want to check Travel Insurance. I already have that when I travel in the US, but I would have too look into the Mexico coverage. It looks quaint and a pretty neat area to explore.
😊
😊
I hope i can goin there this year with my family and atvs i hear is like 6 hours from san diego california
Good memories from San Felipe .
This looks like a cool laidback place to retire. What time of year was this? I notice some have on jackets and I’ve always thought it was hot in Mexico.
His and her vlog you look 100% mexican
Hmmm 🤔 what kind of vase is that?!!¿¡¡¿😂🤣😉✌🏽
Meeting people and drone shots are your forte. Start of video looked a combo of Burning Man & prototype for Mars development.
Thank you. Those are two things I definitely take pride in.
40 years ago this was my favorite place in Mexico! I would love to return for visit.
40m years ago ,absolutely . Today , not on your tintype .
The glassblower was making Bud Vases!
Budweiser?
Love your videos. As a follow up to this video, would be cool if you could compile a list of actual monthly costs to live in Mexico. I know this info is all over the internet but would be nice to see it from a trusted source.
This weekend we will publish the tour of El Dorado Ranch and he shares some of the costs associated with living down there.
I trust Q-Roo Paul's expense breakdown (qroo.us/2018/01/10/retired-in-mexico-our-monthly-expenses/). He is in a different part of Mexico that is more expensive than San Felipe. I live in Club de Pesca in San Felipe where I bought my park model trailer for $10K USD, put about $6K into a 400 square foot screened in patio, pay $300 a month in rent 1 block from beach with 24 hour security. House rentals in good areas are from $400 and up. Electric never higher than $15 per month even in the heat of the summer (I am here all year but note I live in 400 square feet of indoor space). Water $4, cell phone $8 unlimited talk, text, 1 GB data in US, Canada, Mexico with Telcel. I use Netflix ($10.99) and share Internet with my neighbor (home phone and Internet about $30). No cable TV, but you can get that for $20 to $150 depending on what you want. Mexican private health care $850 per year ($1M USD coverage in Mexico) with $100K for emergencies anywhere else in the world. Auto insurance for the year $250. I have a Mexican car, so auto registration for about $70. Gas is very expensive at almost $4 per gallon, but I walk almost everywhere as I am only 1 mile from the Malecon and many restaurants and bars. A tank of gas can last me months. Food is very inexpensive. Once a year I fill up my propane tanks for the heater and stove. Beers in bars are from 30 pesos to 45 pesos. Where I live at Club de Pesca there is a store that always has beer on ice for 20 pesos and a patio right on the water where people play Mexican Train and Left, Right, Center in the afternoons. Come on down. The Chili Cookoff is May 5 on the patio at Club de Pesca.
I agree! Yes please
really well done video. doesn't look like somewhere i would want to live. so desolate.
Thank you very much. I tried to be very honest with what we experience down there.
i could live their in the winters no problem i retire in three years and thats what i am going to do in my fifth wheel
We retire in June and plan to head down with our camper this Winter.
we have a place in Puerto Penasco just across the water.
A man of culture, nice
Good stuff. I noticed when you went into Vally Of The Giants it was a gated area, is that private land? Mine eyes couldn't read the sighs.
It’s actually a park.
Usually its 100 Pesos per car .... about $6. Sometimes less, sometimes more, sometimes free ... ah, Mexico!
Beer gets you a discount.
Ah, beer...Viva La Mehayeco
great place to live ,
Thank you for showing more of San Felipe... I've been to several places throughout Mexico without problems... shame to say... I won't go to South Central & some areas of East LA unescorted
Exactly, there are bad places and people everywhere. I think the media doesn't do places like Mexico any favors.
Rosarito is a bit like East LA with a beach.
If you ever make ANY deal with Butler , and he shakes your hand , nake certain you count your fingers before leaving .
I was in the hacienda del sol and i slept with no distractions and the amount of stars you its beatiful. Compared to cali
My grandma and family lives there. 😎
My sister has a lot in the El Dorado Community. Do you know if I'd be allowed to stay there in my camper?
It depends on which section she built in, whether they allow RV parking or not from what we understood during the tour.
We used to go to San Felipe every year when I was young in October, enjoyed nice quiet beaches back then. After hearing all the chaos of Mexico, I have never returned as an adult. Is it safe there???
I can’t compare SF to decades ago because we’ve only been going there for four years, but we feel very safe.
I feel unsafe when a u.s. police officer stops me...whats wrong with us in the good usofa??
I just went to San Felipe and it is safe, compared to my city Tijuana it is a very quiet little town with a lot of people thriving
are those the biggest cactus in the world?
So are there places for campers Rv,motorhome places out there ? What side of Mexico is that from Cal,Texas side or what ?
There’s lots of camping. We have an entire playlist of Mexico videos. This is a tour of one of the RV parks.

Google San Felipe for the location.
How are the road conditions down to there? Narrow? shoulders? pot-holes? speed bumps? etc
The road from Mexicali to San Felipe is in great condition. There are roads in SF that need improvement, but they are in the process of repaving them right now.
It is a two and a half hour drive from Calexico Calif Mex boarder to the Sea Of Cortez on the Malecon in San Felipe. Great SAFE road all the way.
YOU CAN SNEAK IN BY FLYING.
My mother spent 16 plus years living in Mexico as a beautiful young blue-eyed, blonde and she was never bothered. Maybe it was because she spoke fluent Spanish. I traveled (as a young blue-eyed, blonde) with my grandparents and we were never bothered. Your attitude has a great deal to do with how we are treated and we shouldn't live in fear...best wishes for your future plans.
Barbara Metzler there is a lot of Mexican people with blue eyes I’m Mexican and my eyes are blue.
Possibly/probably an over-asked question but can you safely drink the local water in San Felipe if you're not accustomed to it?
I don’t think I ever would drink tap water anywhere unless it’s from my hometown of Seward Alaska where the tap water comes right off a glacier.
It’s easy enough to get good water.
I bet you have no problem with Mexican beer 🍺
It costs roughly 40 USD to get a cistern full of water (I think 2000 gallons?). We use that for showers, laundry cleaning dishes. Then we purchase 5 gallons jugs of water from Israel or go to the Calimax for our drinking water.
Did u ever move to San Felipe?
Viva LA mexico!
Good life if you have the money to spend like a King...lol..I was in Cancun one time...Fun times
San Felipe is NOT Cancun. A couple can live a VERY good life here on $30,000 a year renting, $25,000 if you own your home ($75-$250,000 home prices)
Ross Wilkin I didn’t say it was. I said I was in Cancun.
2:45 jackfruit
2:30 bong for weed 👌
Short answer: No. Been to S.F. During Spring break it's off the charts crazy. Add to it the instability of Mexico, I'll take my little corner of the world in the mountains of Southern Spain any day over Mexico.
BYE
You Spanish hater! Spain can never compare to how beautiful Mexico and how tasty Mexican food is 🇲🇽
Next time when you explain the dishes can you also let us know the prices for each entree?
On the Malecon $12 for a large order of shrimp (I had coconut shrimp) and about $4 for a large frozen magarita. Lobster was around $17 per order.
@@TheFredman08 that's excellent! Thanks! I'm hoping to get an investment property in Mexico within 18 months.
@@cocogomez2278 if you need more info pm me...I just bought almost a year ago.
What was the little market called?
It’s called the Malecon. Most waterfront towns have one.
Isn’t San Felipe on the beach? why no footage of the beautiful beaches there?
It just didn't make it into this video. We have about a dozen from San Felipe.

We really enjoy San Felipe and are heading back soon. Thanks for watching.
I visited San Felipe in the early '70s with some LA buds & have Long wanted to come back & Live here & I'm retired & single & would Luv to go for it & 'Wondering if San Felipe (Baja) in Late Dec 2022 is somewhat way from the random Mexico Drug-Cartel--crime scenario or is that part of the dice roll
2:45 it a jack fruit
I always thought you guys n gals were retired
Hah! I wish we were retired with enough money flowing in so we could live our dreams. Right now we are just living life to the fullest. We work to making ends meet and prepare for our future.
hey, if u see my cousin tell her I said hi :D
Using a lawyer when buying a house or starting a business is smart in any country.
Incorrect. In some countries (US included) it is not customary to involve an attorney in a real estate transaction. Real estate attorneys were already hired to draw up the contracts that are used. Obviously, Mexico and most Central American countries utilize them.
I meant before you draw,up the papers. Like you said an lawyer was already involved when you draw up the paper work ,so yes good Idea .
Well, could you retire there?!
Yes we could.
We happened to just move to Baja.
You miss your 9am apoiment.
Water seems to be gringo prices. But still affordable.
6 gallons for .50. You can’t get a single bottle of water for that. Bet there’s no fluoride in it either.
One word ... GIMBAL
We have one for the GoPro. We're not going to get one for the current vlogging camera until we get it's 4k replacement.

The dog thing is very depressing. I tend to associate being an expat with being an alcoholic.
That's an interesting viewpoint. I wonder if it's because their life is like a vacation and they behave like such?
Everyone loves a vacation.
There are tons of things to do down here in San Felipe that don't involve alcohol. In El Dorado alone, there are multiple things going on every day (www.eldoradoranch.com/resort/Calendar_Month.html). Free movies, games, tennis, water volleyball, pool tournaments, etc. There are also tons of volunteer organizations that do things like pick up trash, feed hungry children, spay/neuter animals for free, assist the disabled, raise money for the cancer clinic, provide free glasses and hearing aids, support the DARE program, etc. My dog loves it here because there are many places he can be that he does not even have to wear a leash (it helps that he is well trained and behaved).
I missed that special glass vase the first time! Wonder if expatriates are associated with that? Big bong emoji😎
Surprisingly, we find very little drug or weed usage here. Less than in urban areas of the US.

The Crocodile is a nightclub on the Malecon. I’m usually asleep by the time it starts bumpin’.
You can hear the music from the campgrounds.

Lol. If you want. It’s a dirty town.
Not all of Mexico is nice places to visit. Happy trails.
Very true, I think that's the case everywhere in the world.
Very true, but San Felipe Baja Mexico sure is. MUCH safer, afordable and stress free than USA.
Just like in any country . Some great areas and some don't go there areas .
STOP..... did you say 5 unkept dogs?????????????????????????????????????
Yes, it was a mess. The lady was super nice though and loved all her dogs.
No, no waves in San Felipe.
Very true.
No, I could not live there. The cost of living difference does not outweigh the cultural differences that I'm not ready to adapt to. My local mexican restaurant also makes the most delicious tortilla chips (made in-house) and I'm happy with that.
Good
I bet today, you’re answer would be yes.
Looks like a dump to me. But better than san Francisco. And then the Karens showed up. And then some swamp butt.
