In this video Canadian Guitarist/producer Dean Wolfe reacts to New Trolls Concerto Grosso Live.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught Canadian guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician on the road at age 17 for two years, but went part-time ever since while holding day careers including as a chef and in spiritual health care while raising a family.
I've recorded hundreds of my own songs- many being used in media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I abandoned the prog genre more or less back in the 1990s but have returned to it now with vigour a full 30 years later- so much prog I've ignored and quite frankly didn't have any idea about. My own prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk and acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electric as well).

Very good symphonic prog
Concerto Grosso is a masterpiece of New Trolls. It's a fusion of classic music and rock.
But in essence they are hard rock band.
They are great even without classic music so check out the songs from other albums.
What should I request next? (Their songs or other Italian progressive rock songs)
The concept itself of Concerto Grosso comes from the baroque concert where a small orchestra of solo players (in this case the rock band) was contrapposed to a full orchestra in a continuous question/answer pattern. The theme of "to die, to sleep, maybe to dream" is recurrent in that album and it's a reference to Shakespeare's Hamlet “To die, to sleep. To sleep, perchance to dream. Ay, there's the rub, for in this sleep of death what dreams may come”
EDIT: I think the band performing is not the cool New Trolls, the one with Scalzi and Di Palo, but the branch of the band that separated and changed all the key elements but kept using the names, a bit like Rod Evans that was using the name Deep Purple... XD

I was wondering whether to request this version or the Trilogy Live version.
The full orchestra version is great and I understand your opinion.
However, I chose this version, which feels more rock than the classical and well-organized version.
I've requested “River of life” “Alta Loma five till nine” on this channel in the past.

@@deanwolfechannel Praticamente i New Trolls da tempo si erano sciolti avevano fatto vari gruppi suonando le stesse canzoni ma purtroppo del gruppo originario morto Vittorio de Scalzi polistrumentista che è stato quello che ha formato la band assieme a Nico di Palo uno dei migliori chitarristi in circolazione dagli anni 70 in poi poi ha avuto un brutto incidente di auto e la carriera di chitarrista per lui è finita.In questa versione di Concerto Grosso ci sarà il batterista originario di 50 anni fà gli altri non li conosco.Spero che ho fatto un riassunto abbastanza reale della situazione. Bacalov compose anche una colonna sonora con gli Osanna, un altro gruppo italiano dell epoca.
