    I can’t believe this popped up on my recommendations. I’m the author of the digitized pattern you got off Etsy! Thank you so much for this video, I had a massive smile on my face watching you make something so beautiful out of something I worked hard to make available for people to enjoy. You did a phenomenal job on the dress and the purple is gorgeous on you!

    what a stunning dress! gorgeous! that royal purple!💜 as I was watching, I flashed back to the 70s, when I sewed all the time. and with my 1st mother-in-law Betty, who was a phenomenal seamstress and teacher. and I remember that we both took issue with Butterick patterns! (we often referred to them as "Butterfrick" because they were frickin frustrating to work with!)😂 gosh, I miss those days sewing with her! wonderful memories!

      I remember seeing pictures of some of the beautiful dresses you made. 😊 Sounds to me like it's time to get your sewing machine back out! I'd love to work on a project with you 🙂

    "Ah-tell-ee-ay". The shelf dress was a Hollywood hit in its day. I think it was Debbie Reynolds who made it famous, also MM. Well done!

    I started sewing as a child in the 60s. I never had problems with patterns not fitting until the 80s. Picked my bust size and made a few adjustments.
    But after the 80s the patterns started to fit massively big. About the time they started the multi sizes.
    Unfortunately I am no longer the same size I was when young. So my old patterns don't work. But I have found old patterns that match my modern measurements and they always work great.
    When buying new patterns I have learnt to compare my measurements and go with the next smallest grouping. Then I am only making small adjustments.
    So at one time mass produced patterns were white close.
    I have also made things for others with modern patterns and ran into the same problem.

      I know what you mean..I do feel that patterns produced more recently have much greater difficulty with fitting properly. Most of my patterns from the 30's/40's/50's need very little adjustment (outside of simply making personal preference adjustments).

    It is hard to believe these dresses of my childhood are antique and vintage, on my side I have always liked dresses like that.

    You look absolutely lovely! You just hit the nail on the head why I haven't tried making my own clothes yet. 😒 Fabric is sooo expensive and I am disabled and on a fixed income and would die if I had to waist fabric. So for now I am quilting and bag making. But one day I hope to make my own clothes. The sewing is easy, it is the fitting that is daunting 😬😬! I would have loved to see you make the garment from start to finish! I love the sewing! 💜 It came out sooo beautiful you should be sooo proud!

    I have a suggestion when taping your pattern pieces together use heat resistant tape this way you can iron them without the tape melting .

    yep I had the safe fit issues with the retro Butterick pattern. 🙄I have since gained weight since I started it and put it aside. Once I get back into shape I will take it back out and tailor it to fit me.😊Your final dress came out stunning!!💜💜💜

      Thank you so much for watching! So sorry to hear you also had fit issues. They certainly changed these retro patterns - and sadly it altered the original fit. I wish you luck with your dress when you get back to it 😊

  • @AWDTerry
    @AWDTerry 9 месяцев назад

    I’m sewing B5880 now! How did you make the skirt puff out to the side so much? Was it simply a stiffer fabric? That’s what I am going for -- the va-va-voom of it is amazing!

    • @ladyalexandriaj
      @ladyalexandriaj  9 месяцев назад +1

      It is absolutely the fabric that's helping it stand up so much. Even with the stiffer fabric I had to occasionally fluff the side piece throughout the wedding. If your fabric isn't stiff enough on its own you can always starch it - or if you really wanted to go crazy you could add a thin wire to the outer hem ☺️

    • @AWDTerry
      @AWDTerry 9 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you @@ladyalexandriaj for those tips! I considered the wire, but spray starch never even crossed my mind! I finished the dress and I absolutely love it.

    Atelier is French and it's pronounced At el ee ay. Wonderful video and you look gorgeous in the dress.

  • @ruthkirkparick3535
    @ruthkirkparick3535 2 года назад

    I think it's a French word (English only Canadian, vaguely familiar with French words). If I'm' right it's pronounced "at- el-e-a"
    Perhaps a better versed Canadian can confirm/correct me on this. I do love your effort to come up with a fabulous result.

    • @ladyalexandriaj
      @ladyalexandriaj  2 года назад

      Thank you! For both the pronunciation guide and for watching 😊
