I can’t believe this popped up on my recommendations. I’m the author of the digitized pattern you got off Etsy! Thank you so much for this video, I had a massive smile on my face watching you make something so beautiful out of something I worked hard to make available for people to enjoy. You did a phenomenal job on the dress and the purple is gorgeous on you!
what a stunning dress! gorgeous! that royal purple!💜 as I was watching, I flashed back to the 70s, when I sewed all the time. and with my 1st mother-in-law Betty, who was a phenomenal seamstress and teacher. and I remember that we both took issue with Butterick patterns! (we often referred to them as "Butterfrick" because they were frickin frustrating to work with!)😂 gosh, I miss those days sewing with her! wonderful memories!
Thank you thank you!! I remember seeing pictures of some of the beautiful dresses you made. 😊 Sounds to me like it's time to get your sewing machine back out! I'd love to work on a project with you 🙂
I started sewing as a child in the 60s. I never had problems with patterns not fitting until the 80s. Picked my bust size and made a few adjustments. But after the 80s the patterns started to fit massively big. About the time they started the multi sizes. Unfortunately I am no longer the same size I was when young. So my old patterns don't work. But I have found old patterns that match my modern measurements and they always work great. When buying new patterns I have learnt to compare my measurements and go with the next smallest grouping. Then I am only making small adjustments. So at one time mass produced patterns were white close. I have also made things for others with modern patterns and ran into the same problem.
I know what you mean..I do feel that patterns produced more recently have much greater difficulty with fitting properly. Most of my patterns from the 30's/40's/50's need very little adjustment (outside of simply making personal preference adjustments).
You look absolutely lovely! You just hit the nail on the head why I haven't tried making my own clothes yet. 😒 Fabric is sooo expensive and I am disabled and on a fixed income and would die if I had to waist fabric. So for now I am quilting and bag making. But one day I hope to make my own clothes. The sewing is easy, it is the fitting that is daunting 😬😬! I would have loved to see you make the garment from start to finish! I love the sewing! 💜 It came out sooo beautiful you should be sooo proud!
It looks phenomenal on you , I can’t imagine how talented you have to be to adjust the pattern from two different dresses and make it look that good xx
yep I had the safe fit issues with the retro Butterick pattern. 🙄I have since gained weight since I started it and put it aside. Once I get back into shape I will take it back out and tailor it to fit me.😊Your final dress came out stunning!!💜💜💜
Thank you so much for watching! So sorry to hear you also had fit issues. They certainly changed these retro patterns - and sadly it altered the original fit. I wish you luck with your dress when you get back to it 😊
I didn't make the outfit I'm wearing at the beginning of this video- though it is super comfy. I did make the slacks I'm wearing further along in the video 😊
I’m sewing B5880 now! How did you make the skirt puff out to the side so much? Was it simply a stiffer fabric? That’s what I am going for -- the va-va-voom of it is amazing!
It is absolutely the fabric that's helping it stand up so much. Even with the stiffer fabric I had to occasionally fluff the side piece throughout the wedding. If your fabric isn't stiff enough on its own you can always starch it - or if you really wanted to go crazy you could add a thin wire to the outer hem ☺️
Thank you @@ladyalexandriaj for those tips! I considered the wire, but spray starch never even crossed my mind! I finished the dress and I absolutely love it.
I think it's a French word (English only Canadian, vaguely familiar with French words). If I'm' right it's pronounced "at- el-e-a" Perhaps a better versed Canadian can confirm/correct me on this. I do love your effort to come up with a fabulous result.
Well worth all that fitting work! Beautiful!
Thank you very much! ❤️❤️

"Ah-tell-ee-ay". The shelf dress was a Hollywood hit in its day. I think it was Debbie Reynolds who made it famous, also MM. Well done!
Thank you so much for watching, and for the extra information on the history of the shelf dress ☺️

Brilliant vlog, of course now you have to do one showing how to make a fascinator, please! X
Thank you for watching! I'll add fascinator to the list this year. I've had a few requests from this 😊
It is hard to believe these dresses of my childhood are antique and vintage, on my side I have always liked dresses like that.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. 😊
It turned out beautifully. Really like how the bodice turned out. Colour is absolutely wonderful. 💜
Thank you so much!
You look sensational, that dress suits you so well xxx
Thank you thank you!!!
It turned out just beautiful. Love how you show us the fitting and fixes.
Thank you so much!
Wow 🎉absolutely stunning! Love it!❤
Thank you so much!!
Loved it! Show us how you made the fascinator!
Thank you for watching and for your request. Perhaps we can make another fascinator here soon and walk through the process 😊

Disabled sewist here. I share your frustrations with fabric costs and fitting difficulties! Good luck to both of us!
Just WOW! 🤯. You in that dress is everything! Love your video presentation. More please! 🥰
Thank you so much! Thank you for watching ☺️ New video coming out later today.
It looks phenomenal on you , I can’t imagine how talented you have to be to adjust the pattern from two different dresses and make it look that good xx
Oh my goodness, thank you so much! ❤️
What a gorgeous dress design
Thank you, and thank you so much for watching!
Fantastic job! You may want to check out Gertie's Charm Patterns for future reference. Her patterns always on point for vintage!
Thank you for the recommendation! I'll definitely check out Gertie's Charm Patterns.
So beautiful
Thank you ☺️
That turned out great!
Thank you ❤️
I have a suggestion when taping your pattern pieces together use heat resistant tape this way you can iron them without the tape melting .
That's a fabulous tip! Especially for using a pattern again later! Thank you!
Gorgeous. Looks great on you and glad you didn’t give up on it!
Thank you!

Beautiful.
Thank you ☺️
I have the exact same dress on you in the video. So cute on and comfortable. Did you make yours? The black with pink roses.
I didn't make the outfit I'm wearing at the beginning of this video- though it is super comfy. I did make the slacks I'm wearing further along in the video 😊
Is it Ok if I link a clip from this video in one I am making about B5880? You did a great job on it! 💜
Sure. Thank you so much for watching and following along with me!

Atelier is French and it's pronounced At el ee ay. Wonderful video and you look gorgeous in the dress.
Thank you 😊
Actually...it's pronounced more correctly "ah-TEL-ee-ay".

Thank you! For both the pronunciation guide and for watching 😊
