Runescape is a good place to understand human behaviour, i've deduced that most scammers in game would also scam in real life if they could get away with it with no repurcussions.
No not really RuneScape is just a game
@@altoids79762 You have to be a psychopath to not see people's gear as a valuation of their effort put into the game. Imagine grinding day and night for an item, and still being able to tell yourself that it's fine to basically steal it from them.
@@spacialist8198 Yes, luring is a bannable offense (it has to be a huge case usually for it to be studied). It falls under the banner of a scam ("obtain GP and/or items from another player by dishonest means.") under Runescape's code of conduct.
For the argument's sake, assume that it's not bannable. It's not "ok" because it's morally reprehensible to deceive people and prey on their ignorance to transfer wealth from themselves to yourself, which they otherwise would have never agreed to. In other words, you're being dishonest about your intentions and willfully misleading someone in order to rob them of their possessions.
@@spacialist8198 The "non scummy" ways to PvP like this are cases where the "victim" does not want to fight but fully aware of the dangers, meaning they are conscious about the risk that they can die and agree to take on that risk.
A classic example is killing people at the Chaos Temple in the wilderness. It's the fastest and least expensive method to train Prayer in the game, however it's 40 levels into the Wilderness and the players bringing their costly bones with them are 100% conscious and agree to the risk of them being killed for it. The player basically agrees that he's increasing the efficiency of his training at the cost of risking to die to PvPers and losing his items.
In other words, the non-luring "scummy PvP" is just preying on people doing certain tasks in the Wilderness, where the risk of dying is the risk they agree on taking. High-risk, High-reward.
As for my original post, if scamming and luring in real life was that easy to get away with, people would do it mindlessly and way more, like they do it in game, and the empathy within humans on how much trouble and distress they're causing wouldn't be enough to stop them. Whether or not luring is legal in game isn't what i was actually gonna discuss, but thankfully someone already helped explain it.
Anyhow, if anyone has little experience with ppl irl, they'd learn a thing or two from these scammers and lurers.

If someone really wants to give you something good - they will just do it - no strings attached. Just yesterday someone gave me a dragon pickaxe, and it was that simple. They traded me, gave me the pickaxe and then it was in my bag. No 'give me your (whatever item) and I'll trade you again for the pickaxe', no 'follow me and I'll give you the pickaxe' and no set of strange, convoluted instructions - they simply gave it to me for nothing.
Some people are generous, but if it's not a straight forward, one-time trade, it's probably not legit.
(I made sure to pay it forward by giving my rune pickaxe to someone using an adamant one - technically not for free though as the guy gave me a piece of coal in return).

Yeah that's very true. The other day I was training on hill giants (I'm sorta nooby) and I watched some decently high level guy just walk up to someone that was wearing mismatching rune and adamant armor/ He just walked up and said "I have been sent here to upgrade your armor, trade it to me". All I could think was, damn, poor guy is about to get scammed. I watch as he takes off all his armor and begins trading, but then after the trade the high level guy just walked away as the other guy starts putting on a full zammy set. I was genuinely surprised LUL

This exact same thing happened to me. A guy I talked to at the GE for about an hour gave me a ring of suffering because I told him it’s the only ring I don’t have. The next day he pms me telling me to login under him to grab an arcane someone was dropping near the fishing guild bank. With nothing on me, I do this and get an abyssal whip instead. About 20 minutes later the same guy tells me to meet him at the edgeville bank so we can get the arcane but I have to be the bait. “Coincidentally” there’s a guy there who trades me and shows me a few expensive items. I met him at the FG bank and he does exactly what you showed, gives me zammy brews. Then I showed him my tbow. He then gave me the pharaohs outfit with the scepter. That’s when I switched back to a safe world and blocked their asses. Got an ez 26m out of it though.

I'm actually really interested in hearing the discord call lol
Fuck legal reasons, I won't say shit, add me on discord bro, add me
Legally, recording someone's voice without their permission is always sketchy as hell. Even if you're allowed to record people without informing them (sometimes referred as "one-party consent" in the US), they might live in an area where they can't be recorded like that and it starts getting very expensive very quickly. Even having a slam-dunk case can still necessitate paying a few hours to a defence lawyer which can be hundreds or thousands of dollars just to defend your legally-OK actions. It's just too risky.
Same
Pugger could have his channel taken down or demonetized for releasing it though, as it could be illegal
It 100% depends on the state or province Pugg lives in. If he lives in the USA and resides in say Wisconsin, alls you need is single-party consent. So regardless of where the other person is, lives, etc... its 100% legal.
If he is in again say Wisconsin which has single-party consent and he records it there its completely legal.

EDIT: why am I getting a notification for someone pressing like on this comment, while, in fact, my comment currently has ZERO likes? Did someone press like and then remove it?
Damn.
The biggest thing to remember is: If you ever think you're getting one over on a lurer/scammer - chances are that's part of the scam. Even if you know the way a lure/scam works, often a lot of the new lures/scams are built on ways that people would anti-scam those.
Example: The duel arena arrow scam. Low level guy offers to stake you lots of money. Gives you a maple bow + rune arrows to fight him. Another guy trades you addy arrows and tells you that rune arrows won't work. You grab them and accept the duel. Scammer pulls out knives, and you realise you can't use your bow - the scam was disabling two handed weapons, and nothing to do with the arrow type.
I did manage to anti-scam someone doing that by bringing grey chins (I figured he'd be looking to see if I had knives/darts/obby rings etc, so I filled my inven with lots of weird random stackables, and hid grey chins in the middle since they're not super obvious) and since he was a low CB level it worked, but even that is something I'm sure a scammer could figure out a way of turning into a new scam.
"Easy real" lmfao.
I love how its just a game and you're going out of your own way to spot these botters, lurers, people abusing the system, etc. Great work with all your content. Keep it up because its obvious Jagex needs a lot of help.

A lot of time people justify luring as "the victim deserved it for being so stupid to run around in the wilderness with all their money", and I can see where that logic comes from, but it doesn't apply when you're abusing what is essentially a bug that you're hoping the target is not aware of...

Interesting to see how advanced luring tactics have gotten. Using bots and an anti-anti-scam as a ruse. Pretty impressive from a certain point of view.
TBH, years ago, my friend and I used to lure relatively low level players with money to tribesmen on Karamja. Generally one of us would look for someone sufficiently low level for the tribesman to attack, someone looking to buy a relatively expensive item. After talking to the guy a bit, I'd introduce my friend, who'd talk through private chat to the victim and he'd say he was interested in selling [whatever item the guy wanted] for a low but semi-believable price, but was busy mining gem rocks in Shilo or whatever. Then I'd offer to take the victim there and lure him to the tribesman. Generally I'd spam-trade an anti-poison potion once they got hit to keep them from teleporting away, but never actually give it. Wait a bit for them to die than take their cash. Then PM them acting all shocked and offering to meet them to give them their stuff back (report window was only like 90 seconds back then I think, so if you stalled long enough, there'd be no evidence for them to report).
If we were lucky, we could make a few mil a day sometimes. Kinda luck of the draw on who we could find.
Then we both got banned and kinda moved onto other things, lul. Fair enough on Jagex's part; we were shitty teenagers breaking their rules or whatever.
But anyway, this is some next level shit. 0_0

SirPuggerThis happened to me but after i got the whip from logging in under, i split the price of the whip with the guy. told me to pull my bank out and sit in ge. he then says wait for a scammer to target me. so they want me to hop at barbarian assault minigame and show all my gear to them in a trade. i bank my stuff real quick, trade them, and it pulled me into multi. i was on discord call with a guy saying "you messed up the arcane grab you better get this" and after i seen what happened i instantly ended the discord call, and blocked the discord account and the osrs account. this is a guy that was my friend. im thinking he sold his account... smh. please keep sharing this. they tried it on me. im taking time out of my day just to comment to show how much i appreciate seeing this. thank you so much
i signed up for double xp like two weeks ago and now i cant log in. im quitting this game
you have been phished. my condolences. see some account security threads moving onward of what to do and what not.

Okay hear me out, Secretly SirPugger is in charge of the whole luring operation right?
He is attacking botters who make gold doing nothing and sell it, needs next to no user input in many cases so its free money for bot operators.
If he takes out the botters, gold prices go up, and he makes more money if my theory is correct.
Once the botters are out of the game the gold prices to go up as theres a supply/demand chain. He uses his position as head of the luring operation against our love for the SirPugger to release a video "exposing" lurers for people to attempt and anti-lure, only to have a bigger lure to trick every single one of the people attempting to anti-lure.
He already said how money money they've made; since OSRS release over 1 million USD sounds pretty good.
I'm onto you SirPugger ;)
@Sanberk Atalay aahahahahahahahahah
LMFAO spending money on worthless ass ingame "money"
Super interesting, I always wondered what those bots at 4:50 were from or their purpose
SirPugger has just shown me what I need to do to start playing the game again :)
I’m actually more proud of you for this than the bot busting videos. Luring has been so deep in the osrs community and lying on teamspeak, skype, curse and eventually discord has become so popular

I was lured in 2011ish and lost my partyhat that I purchased the day before. The feeling was indescribable, but it definitely allowed me to get my social life back after I quit playing.
In this video he says a bot scans the g.e for rich targets, since you had a party hat is triggered the algorithm
Got lured for 600m Nov 2019 at the Arceeus bank. The sequence you explained it was nearly identical. The one main difference is that the guy who initiated the contact with me and was in the discord call was on my friends list for months before.. again, to build trust. I had no idea what was happening and I feel pretty dumb about that.
I’ve never received my Runes in a bottle...
omfg i actually cried
I guess you could say I was lured IRL
Showing how you made 11m on this video is just gonna make more people try and anti-lure and get scammed
That's good, it'll be a good learning lesson for them
David Ortega ok lurer
Well if people are putting their Bank in inventory in pvp worlds, a square away from being able to lose it all, they're dumb. *Especially if they're aware of the lure.* So this video is fine. Spreads awareness and there's still natural selection.
@@otallono I almost got lured through a tele tab recently, was very tired and overly trusting. But now I feel bad for kids this happens to, OSRS is played in a chilled out state usually (for me)
they target rich people so 11m isn't gunna be that much incentive anyway
This is more like real journalism compared to anything made on any major network of that past few years.
Great research and respecting your sources anonymity. 👍

haha, I'm in danger...
Why do people hop to a pvp world with their bank? does common sense ever kick in?
The idea is you *think* you are going to get the jump on the scammer but the guy helping
You to cheat the scammer is in on the scam as well.
I was nearly baited when a rando on a pvp world i hopped into showed me his cash stack and then mocked me for being poor. I withdrew a bunch to show him I wasn't.
He did the stall for a trade to lure me but messed it up so I was safe. It's honestly brilliant. Being mocked like that def made me not think about what could happen, and ofc I didn't know about the stall glitch. From my perspective, it was just some a hole bragging about his bank.
To be honest sometimes I am playing on a pvp world for whatever reason, forget I am there, and then tele to edge with 100M+ because I am stupid...happens all the time I have just gotten lucky
@@pablojams5152 ye its such an old scam tho seen it everywhere. Even seen it with someone tryna skull trick me for nothin more than a whip, wtf?
these lurers play on emotion... common sense doesnt always triumph unfortunately
I feel like this is a episode of rick and morty "One Crew over the Crewcoo’s Morty"
These scams are really drawn out and takes a lot of persistence to pull off. Back in the day it was just a case of being told to follow someone into the wildy for a free full rune g set
I’ve seen that name before zuk ezreal that’s crazy haha. I always play with public off, trade off, along with accept aid off seems to be working great!
i got scammed by these people XD they indeed convinced me with letting me antiscam me like 20m in under 15 minutes. and in the course of 3 days we ''antiscammed'' 4 people for over 10m+ each time and i was drawn in at that piont.. lost a t bow to them XO i felt so extremely stupid to have myself being played like that.. but i didnt care to much anyway.. i laughed it off as i had still 3b+ bank anyway..
people say you are stupid if you fall for this kind of thing but the thing is... they make you feel like you the one doing justice by anti scamming real scammers.. they get on discord with you and become your ''friends''. i guess im happy it happend to me, now im learned and it will not happen again =) big thumbs up for making this kind of content bro, keep unaware people safe!

Sir pugger, maintaining quality content
PSA: Scooty tried this lure on me. I was smart enough to avoid the scam but I did profit around 6m off him. Thanks for creating this video, it really helped me avoid the bigger scam at work.
Wish i saw this video before. Got lured for a scythe exactly like that.
Here's what i've learned from my 11+ years of playing runescape. The runescape community is a rank 1 criminal mind in overall mmorpg. Catfishers, hackers, lurers, scammers and even more. In runescape your best friend is also your most wanted enemy. So keep this in mind.
Thanks for making a video on this, I got lured almost identically like this last year for 500m.
I knew it was a lure but I was pretty drunk and thought I could out smart them. Lol turns out I didn't.
Well can't say you didn't deserve it. It's like feeling sorry for a drunk driver that drives into a tree, I feel more for the tree in that scenario.

hey bro shoutout to you for shouting out your friends music video. Seriously, as someone who makes music videos myself, getting serious promotion from a friend can mean a lot.
Not just the community has grown up, so have the scammers. You can see with just how sophistocated and clever some of these tricks are...
I've had these types of dudes try this on myself and my buddies. They also try to offer ToB and Inferno coaching to befriend you lol. All max capers as well.

Just started playing yesterday, its loads of fun. you should try it
"Zuk easy reel" 😂
Wow, This actually happened to me about 2 years ago the stall lure that is. I got dragged out of the bank and had no clue how.
U can still see their whole namn at the left lmao
8:00 you shouldn't trade in PVP world for the Sceptre, they could lure you out aswell and you can loose your bank.
