Luring has been going on ever since Runescape Classic. Today we are going to delve into the various runescape lures, as well as old school runescape lures. This is purely for educational purposes and so that you guys can identify the lures and avoid them. Do not fall for this junk! These guys have lured billions upon billions of gp. More than likely most of this ends up on the runescape black market.

Back in the day there were some rocks near Edgeville that you could walk into, but the game would push your character back out. You could time it to drop something in this spot, but you couldn’t pick anything up from it. When I was 9 I was told it would be a money glitch if I dropped my cashstack there and it would double. They ended up telegrabing it and I cried lol

I remember there use to be a particular popular lurer on RUclips when I was younger. He made music montages of things such as his group dark bow spec'ing people after luring them into the wilderness. I thought the videos were cook at the time. But then I actually ended up coming across him by chance in game. Even started up a conversation telling him how I liked his videos... he then proceeding to try and lure me 😅

OMG! I once had that lending item lure tried on me once, and I decided I was gonna play along and then when my health was getting a little low I flicked the Protect item prayer on, and like 10 seconds later they killed me and of course got nothing, then they rage messaged me that they didn't steal my items and called me all the names under the sun, they even said they were gonna report me for scamming LMAO! I just said, "I'm glad I could waste your time from luring someone who didn't know how to completely counter you." My god that was satisfying, the item if I remember was an SGS.

Lures suck. I can respect people coming up with the ideas, some are pretty smart.
But luring unsuspecting players for their money is just sad. However i do think its part of Runescape.
There is something cool about avoiding these traps aswell, just like in real life.
Now if id compare luring to other 'problems' in the game, such as the black market, i think thats a much bigger problem.
The amount of unlegit infernal capes is insane, aswell as the amount of bought gold. Takes away to much from the game experience.

I think it's much deeper than that bro... You are a good heart player and I can tell you've been around a while because of updates you recognise from old old old-school runescape, your intent is to make money off your content so you have learnt alot from runescape and life if you are able to build a profitable module independent or have to courage to do that on RUclips so yee... People are gonna be people runescape is gonna runescape and life will always teach us lessons

I got my bank lured. I don't know what I was thinking. This was back in like 2009 when claws were about 35m, I'm pretty sure I used a credit card to buy some gold. Keep in mind, I was like 10 years old, those claws were everything to me.
Anyway, it happened in clan wars, If you used to play back then, you know clan wars were common. I got tricked into playing a dangerous clan war, and I was told I was going to be protected by about 5 max levels so I wouldn't die. Skip forward, the other team was also in on it and they just rekt me. Worst times of my childhood

Truth be told youtube has gone so mainstream now... quality channels that would have blown up before, don't now. Some people say that's down to more quality content, but i just think most people are shallow and love mainstream and soulless content lol.

I have only ever been lured once. It was around 06 when I first became a member. My first time looking around the members only area of Karamja. Some guy offered to show me around. Can’t remember exact details, but he took me to some poisonous scorpions. At the time I didn’t even know poison damage was a thing in game and i just assumed they were the same kind of scorpions that were in the Falador mine. I ended up getting poisoned, tried running back to a bank, but couldn’t make it. They chased me down until I died and lost 100k which as a low level f2p up to that point was a lot. Wilderness lures seem very obvious that sometimes you can’t feel too sorry for the person that got lured (lurer is still scum though) but lures using NPC’s in seemingly safe areas are much more difficult for new players to catch.
I remember falling for a lure as a kid where a friendly stranger said to come with him to the wilderness to PK me for his PK montage and that he'd give my stuff back afterwards. Some ten year olds are calculating as all hell, and some are ridiculously naive enough to fall for something so blatant!
They definitely can be! I didnt ever fall for any lures but I have been scammed by the classic noted red d'hide chaps instead of d legs scam back in 2006 or so. They're sneaky!

I hate the wildly, the only reason I go in there is for the lava wyrms/ wildy worm occasionally and I swear I'll be in the middle of slaying a wyrm and 4 or so "pkers" come up and kill me with royal d'hide and cheap equipment just to be dicks. Annoying af.

He was iSkiml00t before he was Framed and he was definitely one of the biggest lurers at that time. It’s a shame because he seems like a good dude now, it just feels like the RS community as a whole was a lot less ethical back then. Some people were just pure scum though, like Mx799.

I fell for the red portal lure when I was 12 but their ice barrage splashed on full dragon somehow, I probably would have quit if I died then lol

as a kid i got lured to jungle before. I was like 9 or so. I cried losing all my stuff, begging him to not do it. Yeah it kinda ruins your experience because as a kid its a big deal. You could say i was naive, but I also didn't know much about runescape. English isn't even my native language
Holy, seeing Fergus get lured again was a throwback. For context, he knew it was a lure, i Duke was meant to counter but just didn't work out haha. We were all on discord or skype during this waiting for him to get robbed pretty much.
You missed the giant mole cave lure. Take the other persons candle, and they die a slow death.
That happened to me in like 2011. Someone dropped a blue phat in lvl1 wildi and I was like 120cmb. Legit got swarmed by 15+ people, couldn’t even telly in time. 😂 rip 200m. Shamefully I resorted to luring other people after that making a ridiculous cash stack but I feel horrible about it now.
All good all good, we all did dumb shit back in the day. I remember shutting the doors on people who would be getting attacked by randoms then loot their stuff haha

To answer why the items kept on death was valued based on the items high alch value was because these were most common before the days since the Grand Exchange came to be. There was no set market value in player to player trades that the game could quantify, everything was traded player to player for whatever they agreed. Store / alch value was the only in-game data point.
The Zam Wine noob lure has a spacial place in my heart. I fell for it as a small child and I look back at it fondly ha.

The whip/mystic tops lure was the first scam I saw where I was like "Oh shit, there's levels to this stuff". Really smart trick to be fair.

I almost lost my entire bank value when I was a fresh member with 1.5M to my name. I wanted to get an abby whip so badly but the price was 1.9M at the time. I put offers on the forums for 1.5M and someone PMed me saying they would sell. We met north of where GE would be now (no wildy border at the time). A lvl 3 with santa hat was standing behind a tree, of course just inside the wildy. He was obviously stalling, telling me he would buy my air staff for 1M or something. In came a pk'er that barraged me and DDSed. I miraculously escaped with 7 hp. I ran out of wildy and started cursing the lurers when a poison splash *6* hit me. My hp bar was completely red and I panic logged out. I was not sure if I was already dead or not (cause of entirely red hp bar). But I told my older brother about it so he said 'relax, where were you exactly?' and we logged in at the same time same world, I died shortly after the log in and he picked up my stuff and gave it back. Best bro.

Thanks for the video! Jojo3000's videos were rigged, so the victims were just his friends. There were a lot of discussions about this at the time. The goal was for him to be remembered, which seems to have worked.
My younger brother got scammed by some kid doing the tablet scam.

My first clan was full of lurers and I fell for one of these. I lost my dark bow before it crashed hard just before eoc launched. I would have hated losing bandos in osrs.

Yeah it very well couldve been. Miasmic with zuriels was insanely popular at the time (dont even know if it still exists in the game). Good catch.
Over the years I have lost a purple phat from a fake sythe middleman, two drygore weps when they had just came out from the clan kingdom lure, and about 90 million gp back in the day from a doubler (had i stopped one trade earlier i would have made 45million). I even had someone become a friend and gain my trust over the span of weeks to steal a santa. Hopefully I have learned my lesson by now haha. =p
I remember i had a gold trimmed blue robe of some sort, and a really nice staff. I don't remember anything about it since i last played years ago. But people tried to lure me in lumby lol. It was always insanely obvious. I remember the trust lure by the bank people tried to pull as well, this was around 07-08.
I got lured by the chinchompa one myself back in the day. The perpetrator was a pretty high level, I was shocked that they would be risking their account to this because it was something you could be reported and presumably banned for.
Used to keep DBA over whip also. I made plenty videos of people dying to me skulled with whip and dba lol. “For a video bring only whip skulled and I’ll give you a dragon battle axe to spec me with, I want to get a video of the spec ”. Yeah, there was no way to check what was kept on death back then. You had to know by word of mouth or experience. Or luring people to a drop party in Brimhaven, get them poisoned by tribesman.

I do think think people get inspired to pk after they fall for things like these; which is a huge amount of fun to be had.
I didn't even know about the wilderness and PKing untill like 3 years after i started playing (can't remember what got me into PKing.. think it was my brother's mate.)
The ice plat lure was easily countered with a seercull bow, back then whatever you hit, for example a 40, their magic levels would drop by 40. I counter pked so many lurers who didn't understand this mechanic for the spec attack. They never wised up to it really.
I can give you some answers about the Jojo lures as far as how people fell for them. For example, the guy that thought they dropped 192m cash. You say obviously they didn’t. Keeping in mind the general limited game knowledge of the time - what they would do is show the 192m, drop it, walk under you and quickly alch a rune med, or something similar, drop that in the wild and then run back and pick their 192m back up. They’d also position the coins on specific tiles where telegrab would make you run into the wilderness, such as right behind a tree.
You also said it was absurd that rares didn’t protect over any other items and that determining what was kept by alch value was absurd. It does make sense though. Pre GE there was no other way to determine what was more valuable, so that’s why alch value was used. When you consider that rares we’re intended to be worthless it makes sense that their alch value was set to 1 or 0.
the pharao scepter one is so weird to me. i was literally given a pharao scepter and... just didnt teleport...? like, it isnt that hard not to left click it. sure, they bank on people not knowing that it teleports you. but still, they are losing millions every time someone does know it
for the zammy wine lure, you used to be able to slam the door. So you could kill significantly higher levels. Not like 120s but like level 80s and 90s. especially if they weren't fully equipped with good combat gear. Also for the ikov lure, they would log in someone underneath with a cat. So this overweight person would click the cat under them when trying to left click their items and that would push them onto the bridge where they'd fall to their doom.

there was also give aways/drop parties then hopping on foreign worlds then they tele group to wilderness on foreign worlds and that's how many lost their banks in like lvl 50 wilderness

Back before the GE was a thing and people stood around Varrock west bank I got scammed for my entire bank's worth in a single simple trade lol.
I believe at the time they just changed the trade screen to include the second confirmation screen or moved the accept/decline to the bottom, so it flew over my head. Someone said you could duplicate any item, even coins/runes, by turning them into notes in the trade screen with a glitch by spam clicking on a specific letter in a word on the first trade screen. They had me put up everything and accept my side then spam click that spot, which coincidentally was the "accept" prompt on screen 2.
Lost my full Addy (g) that day, and probably like 120k more. Not a lot now but for a kid around '05 it was devastating lol.
First time i got lured way back in the day (i was still noobish but achieved full rune weaps/armor already) i was in Karamja and 2 dudes walked up to me promising to show me something funny. i go "OK!" so i followed them till we came up on this one tribal who then stabs me with his poisoned spear. at that point, they set "follow" on me and said "you saw that? he was naked! LOL"
i kept losing HP slowly, i ran towards the village, they were still following me, talking about how that guy was crazy and had poisoned me. i lead them on for a while, and when i was low HP, i took my antidote and ate some food hahaha. they were so disappointed and immediately left me alone with "oh good, you have antidote" before running off to lure someone else.
I got lured by the first one you talked about. Lol, I had full Dharoks and Guthans on me plus my cash stack. Walked out with 10 hp and cussed out the failed lurers.
i got lured by that clan wars method back in the day, wearing the exact same armor, i was wondering if it was me until i saw the name, i wonder if someone uploaded when they lured me

all types of lures are fine in my opinion because it stems from greed on both sides
almost got lured for full bandos way back, the person even got me to the wild ditch, but they offered way too much and dropped the money in the wild behind a rock. which was probably 11k, part of me really wanted to pick it up though.

Nice video great detail! I lost a whip to the alchemy value based item protection back in the day. Killing greens with my whip and a total noob in rune with a d long attacked me I killed him and found 4 notes dragon battle axes. Fantastic right? Well the whip I lost was probably around 5m at the time
That was a lure in itself lol I used to bring an alt with granite bodies and die to the person then attack that person with a different account

When I was 12 and made my 1st account, I got scammed for my 1st set of rune, scammed for my 1st whip, and hacked for my 1st 50mil. Then I quit at combat level 136 of 138.
Back in 07 I counter lured the first example by tele grabbing a whip and zammy rune plate body. As I was walking away they were trying to tell me there's a Santa deeper. I blocked them and enjoyed my spoils
so that cape in the red portal lure wasnt a team cape, thats i beleive the level 40 all cape

Also fun note: that multi-hit skull trick with the chins is probably the most common skull trick in current day rs3 but it's way easier. Basically you get a friend in ghost robes to follow you into a fight against someone using eoc and you hope they fight back and use any of the multi-hit abilities which will hit the guy in ghost robes and skull the victim up
I remember back then the rune armour with gold outlines scam. Ppl were advertising that they would buy it for you if you traded them money. Luckily I was smart enough to not fall for that trick when I was 9! xD
I got hit with the Ice-Plateau group tele when I first got members and my first 1m. Forgot to bank before I accepted the tele and lost it. rough times.

I got lured for full Dragon back in the day when I was a kid, a very dumb kid. I still had bank, but I felt very dumb and made it my job to stop people from falling for it. Thank you for making videos to help keep people from getting scammed
I used to mine rune way out in the deep wildy on F2P servers back during RS2 as I had grinded up my Smithing to 87 over the course of the 12 years I'd played off and on, but refused to get a membership.
My combat level was 123 and all my combat stats were all between 97 - 99. I'd typically equip nothing besides my rune pickaxe. Although, I'd always have a teletab, a strength potion, and a rune skim in my inventory, too. Mostly for protection of myself (PKers would try to yoink me for my rune ore, which wasnt a big deal if lost but super annoying because the rocks took forever to spawn).
More often than not however, I'd be heading back into the lower levels of the Wildy where I could hit my teleport again, and I'd pass some of these jerkwads leading some fresh level 40 account with a full set of rune or something into the deep Wildy, and you could always tell because the predator leading them constantly talked in chat, specifically about what they were on their way to do and how totally awesome it is, etc. (almost like overcompensating for the subconscious anxiety that their target may question their BS).
Usually, I was high enough of a level that if I used the strength potion, equipped my rune skimmy, and then started attacking them, j could scare the shit out of them unless they were in the upper 90's and above. At the very least, I'd go over and tell the victim that they are being lead into the player versus player zone to be killed and have their stuff taken by those guys and I could give them a teleport or lead them back away from that shit if they wanted. Sometimes worked.

I once lost full rune in like 06 from following some guy into the wild who said we were going to kill some boss together and share the loot. Obviously he killed me and lost like 200k in rune and items. After that day I never got scammed or lured in rs or any game/real life situation again really.
I actually lost a whip due to picking up 4 dragon battleaxes. Then I started using an alt to pick up those axes/tops/etc... 🙂

Unpopular opinion: The best thing that can happen to you is to get scammed/lured when you are young BEFORE you get massively rich. That way you are cynical enough that you will never fall for these things AFTER you get massively wealthy. I've been scammed a few times and now I'm cynical enough I always assume everything is a scam first. I don't care how ridiculous it seems. You need 1 gp? Scam.
The most embarrassing one was one I really should've known better. In rs3. Still learning the EOC combat mechanics. I was in wildy, in multi. I was frozen and couldn't run or tele, so I decided to try to fight back to do as much damage as possible. Basically make them work for the kill. Most of my wealth was in 3 items and I wasn't skulled, so I wasn't too worried. Then some random dude just said "Use hurricane". And I didn't know much about the abilities yet, so like an absolute idiot I go ahead and click hurricane.
Instantly skulled on the friend and then spec'ed out. Lost... so much.
I ALWAYS think about that now whenever in the wildy, whether RS3 or OSRS. I want to kill the crazy archaeologist? I KNOW to use blitz spells and not barrage, because wouldn't want to accidentally skull on some random dude who just world hops in.
It seems the mentality of the lurer is "I tricked you therefore you deserve to lose your stuff." We gotta see ourselves as the good guys in our own stories somehow, I guess. Nothing we do is ever inexcusable lol
hear me out yes it might irritate you but luring/scamming on runescape has honestly helped me not get scammed in real life and it might frustrated me and put me off from the game for a minute buut usually all i could think was "wow i was really stupid". Being naive when i was younger and getting scammed set me up to basically not trust stuff thats usually too good to be true

god i remember all these lures! i have lost stuff to scammer/lures. As a kid runescape taught me some life lessons, things that are to good to be true usually are scams. im glad i got lured.
you're saying in hind sight it doesnt make sense why it was determined by alch value. but that s not true. the systems stems from pre-grand exchange times. meaning, there was no other official value of an item other than its alch value. so it absolutely does make sense it was that way. but it also made sense to change it

I have always been a casual to Runescape and I barely know much about the game. But back in the day I know the wilderness was sort of a risky place but wanted to just go out there and explore, just to see what is out there. I think i stopped at the bandit camp just to grind a few mobs and see what they drop. Within 10-15minutes 3 higher level players who I assume were world jumping popped in and killed me. Then one of them whispered something like "haha loser". I was in full rune gear so it's not like I lost much although I think I barely had money to get a new set. After that I think I never ever stepped in the wilderness again. And one time I should've known, but fell for the money giveaways with fake websites and such, but at least he only took my money 2m and 4k coal.

Not gonna lie, years back when I was getting into rs again in general after not playing since 2007, I got lured in the dumbest possible way.
Guy tells me he'll give me a lot of gold if I give him enough stuff. My dumbass fell for it because he was so convincing. IDR how it went but I remember feeling really confident about what he was saying. NEVER AGAIN. Learned my lesson on that one.
However in RS3 this guy lava titan lured me because I had no idea it had a wildy teleport. As I stopped playing before summoning.
Thankfully I was skilled in combat from bossing and what not and got myself to KBD's lair and teleported out but it was a close one.
Dude even tried to pm me again a few months later after changing their name.
Watching this video, I realized one of my best friends irl tried to lure me back in the day 😅😅 luckily I was to much of a noob to follow through lol
i was once lured for Black (g)... i was like 10 maybe 12 dont matter but someone took me to Falador park an have me trade back the Candel they gave me to enter giant mole.. unbeknown to me what would happen if i extinguished the candle
A lot of the people lured 100% bought their gold. Some of the clips used above also had a Skype component as well to help lure victims. Some of the videos were just kids crying because they lost the $50-$200 dollars a parent gave them. Only to be lured a second or third time by the same group later. One I remember was over a party hat. That particular person was convinced they were the lurer over months.
